Atlanta Falcons: Rank Your Falcons

Rank YOUR Favorite Falcons

Falcons players gather around head coach Mike Smith for some "coach speak" at the conclusion of team practice Wednesday in Flowery Branch. The team was on the field for non-contact drills one week before opening mini-camp.

Who's the Best? (AJC)

1) Matt Ryan – The Falcons won’t see the ultimate prize until the franchise QB hits his mojo

2) Sean Weatherspoon – The new leader of the defense

3) Julio Jones – The next best WR in the NFL

Julio --- The Future (AJC)

4) Corey Peters – The former 3rd round pick dominates the defensive line

5) Roddy White – The twitter man has made the Pro Bowl 4 years running

6) John Abraham – Might go down as the best all-time Falcons DE

7) Tyson Clabo – The rock that made the Pro Bowl and is the moral center of OL

8.) William Moore – So much potential, time to deliver

9) Justin Blalock – Perhaps the most underrated OL in Falcons history

10) Michael Turner: He’s slowed down, but still the face of the Falcons

Underrated OG (AJC)

Not sure about top 10 but Tony G. is tops followed by Vance Walker (due to my appreciation for Georgia Tech). Spoon, Julio and Blalock are also in the mix.

Nice topic heading into training camp D3

1. Matt Ryan-this could change, but I do believe we as Falcons fans have to see him with the governors taken off before he can truly be assessed.
2. Sean Weatherspoon, he might very well be the Falcons best defensive player ever, bold statement considering his short time here I know, but he has all the tools.
3. Julio Jones, for the gamble the Falcons made, he is not and was not the one player away piece, however, he is and was a big time piece to the present and future of sustaining a long lasting competitive franchise. i

Back to work, I’ll complete my list later

Honestly, I’m pretty excited about the whole darn team – Sidbury, Adkins, Quizz, Quizz’ brother, all except Sam Baker and Thomas DeCoud.

IMO, considering our play the last 4 years, you have to conclude TD & company have been pretty competent & successful.

My Favs ( and my sons included)
1) Ryan: Great face of the franchise.
2) Julio ( my sons favorite falcons by far…..)
3) Peters. On and off the field.
4) Smitty; where would be without him..seriously… he brought the team back from the brink. And no matter what happens to him and the organization in the future, he was catalyst for where we are now.
5) Spoon. Keep him healthy and he will go to the pro bowl as a falcon
6) Snelling: Not afraid to put down his shoulder and deck someone. Always puts out his very best effort. And under utilized in my opinion
7) Roddy; Keep twitter away from him and duct tape on his mouth
8) McClure… the keystone
9) Gonzo.. its Tony G.. what do you have to say?
10) Dunta (for my son…since at training camps the last 2 yrs, he has taken time to talk to my son, take a picture with him, make jokes and sign my sons autograph hat…. yeah during games he would not be on my top 10.. but he made inroads for hopefully a life long fan of the game in my son)

I completely forgot Tong G. , arghh! I would have to put him in my top 10 as well, it’s just hard knowing he’s got 1 foot out the door after this year, but he’s been solid.

D3, since I was the last post on the last blog I thought I would bring this over because I would like to know what the cageers think. Nothing to do with this subject but I’ve been wondering if the FO has figured out our 0-3 playoff record.

“Just looked up the top 10 head coaches in 2011 and MS was #9. Meaning, he is a good coach that had a couple of crappy coordinators. Hope that will relieve a lot of a lot of fans worries, or not. I am beginning to believe, more and more, that the FO has figured out this playoff loss crap.”

Not sure if you guys caught this or not, but another training camp casualty……..

Matt Hansen waived. Not a surprise. Even though he had a good mini-camp, it was always a very LONG shot.

How bout it Cage Hello to all and hope that all is doing well.
Finally The way I have seen it with our Birds for the last 4 years and what it really is today .

No 1 Matt Ryan . Ranked this year as the No 11 QB (in some polls ) Without this caliber QB the wide receivers and team would not have there stats . You can bank on that . True they may have done as good are better with some other QB’s But they probably would have done worse with a lower ranked QB .And we all know the kind of young Man Ryan is and how he works on things . A emerging real leader he is .With the right front line and protection plus new scheme’s . Who knows !!!

No2 Roddy White . Come on a 4 year pro bowler and really should be coming into his real prime as for as moves . I just got a feeling he will not have as many drops this year as last . In witch he still had 100 receptions . Remember he was here with M Vick also .

NO3 Weatherspoon . As said by the man D3 . He is the new leader for the Defense . A leader in tackles and with Nolan’s new schemes who knows how far this still very young Man can go and be this year .

NO 4 Michel Turner + Rogers . I think that with screens to Rogers and the balance that Turner will bring to the new ( I Hope ) run play . That we will see . Will make the run game at times be better for the Birds than in the past. But no doubt Guys Turner has got to go next year and a first round come in.!!

NO 5 Julio Jones You got to look at what we really have hear !! This Man came from Alabama as the probably ( if I had my choice between him and the UGA guy ) the NO 1 pick . And I think you guys will see a lot of this guy this year . Man can you imagine this guy and Ryan starting to really connect this year . All I can say is he may very well be NO 2 by the end of the season if not sooner . But there is also a heck of a duo here this year with him and Rodd

NO 6 John Abraham . He has and will keep pressure on the QB . And you will see more sacks from him this year than last . There will be more pressure on the line with Nolan and Edwards will do what he use to do this year !! . And help open it up for Abe as well as others this year His age if he stays Healthy will not show And with the depth we have I think he will be OK

OK its 2 am I will get the rest latter today Time for some sleep

NO 7 Harry D . Surprise …..Watch him evolve this year at a 25 yard pass King !!!!!

Goodnight !!!

1) Snelling. Represents all the toughness and attitude I want from my team.

2) Nicholas. Always focused on performance and not attention. He’s shows emotion, but not like the diva Weatherspoon

3) Grimes. His performances make you love him. Gamer

4) Biermann. Great effort and intensity. Just hope his lady allows him to keep an on the fied focus. Don’t want to see him go Hollywood. Fun to watch.

5) Clabo. Just an old slobberknocker. You don’t ever have to wonder if he is getting the most out of his talent. Got limitations, but he’ll make you beat him, rarely beat himself.

6) Peters. Didn’t have a good opinion of him when I read his bio during his rookie year. But if you watch him play, you see a football player with a lot of heart and good on-the-field smarts.

7) Redman. Always liked him when he stepped in during 2007. I think he will give us a couple of special performances this year.

As you can tell, I don’t always pick my favorite players based on who is the most talented or the most recognized. Honorable mention to Micheal Turner for being a battering ram for us since 2008. Still the most important Falcon player on the team. When he dominates, everybody else on the team gets to eat!

Sucks bad about Lofa. Bring back Peterson I guess, maybe sign Brackett or Diggs, who knows. Dent will perform well but we need depth.
