No Big Trades, but Good Players Abound (AJC)
It’s that time again Bird Cage Patriots, time to take a look at all the prospects you can and finalize your mocks for the 4th Annual Bird Cage Falcons Full Mock Competition. You give your own mocks, get points for various reasons, and win. If possible, a small prize might be available for the winner.
1) Each player can have two different mocks (if you only do one mock, you are at a competitive disadvantage)
2) All mocks must be submitted on here (or by email to dawsondevitt@hotmail.com) by THIS FRIDAY @ 5 PM
3) There may be a small prize involved for the winner if I can scrounge some money together.
4) Scoring is as follows:
(*) Direct Hit = 3 points (you choose Brandon Thompson to be picked in 2nd round = 3 points)
(*) Right Position, Wrong Player = 2 points (you choose the Falcons to pick an offensive linemen in 3rd. They take an OL, but not the player you chose. You chose OL Mitchell Schwartz, they picked OL Zebrie Sanders)
(*) Right Player, Wrong Spot = 2 points (you choose the Falcons to select a certain player (Mychal Kendricks), but they select him in the wrong draft spot)
(*)Right Side of the Ball = 1 point (in an effort to increase the point total, if you select the correct side of the ball ( offense vs. defense), you get one point regardless of the player or position. ((EX)) you have them taking Ladarius Green in round 3. They take Isaiah Pead @ RB instead. You chose offense in that spot, so you get 1 point

Yikes. TY D3 for putting me up there but obviously I’ll need to ask for change as B. Sowell was just a place holder pick to represent getting a developmental LT. I’ll have to look up that small school guy I finally decided on. I’ll get a finalized form to use in a lil while. If you would like to put my Isaiah Pead sales pitch over here feel free as the blog monster will eat it if I try. I’m not doing full presentations after Kendricks and Pead as the rest are developmentals and not high probability immediate impact players.

While I still believe that there will be some trading by TD and Co. I believe we could see a 1st next year for a 2nd and 1 or 2 mid to late round picks or maybe a 2nd next year for a couple of mid round selections. However here is what I think with what they currently have.

Good luck for the posts that are up so far. Being a wait and see type person I have had to schedule the completion time of my mock to be late Satruday night. I will possibly be a little past the dealine to get into the contest but I plan on being very accurate. That takes time, ya’ know?

Thank god it is done. Instead of 2 mocks I just used alternatives in same round. We need a NT but D. Stephenson is a good developmental pass protection OT and that takes precedence for example.
2. Mychal Kendricks – ILB, Cal
3. Isaiah Pead – RB, Cinci
5. Donald Stephenson – OT, Oklahoma Alt Nick Jean-Baptiste – NT, Baylor
6. Kellen Moore – QB, Boise St. Alt James Hanna – TE, Oklahoma
7. Adrian Robinson OLB, Temple Alt Brian Peters – S, Northwestern
UFDA;
Dustin Waldron – OT Portland State
Cam Holland – OC UNC
DJ Hall – OC Texas State San Marcos
Darien Weems – OT Oregon
Donovan Robinson – OLB, Jackson St.
Chigbo Anunoby – NT/DT Morehouse
Ishmaa’ily Kitchen – NT/DT Kent St.
T.J. Barnes – NT/DT Georgia Tech
As you can see I did not “forget” about our lines. I just simply put the talent where it belongs and am shooting for difference makers. There is so much developmental talent that wasting low picks on longshots make no sense. I could probaly fit a ton more UDFA guys in there by why bother? I’m not getting paid except for the big stiff drink I’m about to pay myself.

Wouldn’t trade a social disease or even Sam Baker for Freeny at the moment. We can’t afford him at the 19mil or so he’s getting and even if he reworked to 9mil a year I doubt we could fit that in without serious damage down the road. Alot of Falcon fans are oblivious to how much “hidden” money is already on our books waiting to rear its ugly head.

Freeney is due to make 14 mill in 2012. I doubt we have the cap space for that move even if we cut Ovie and Baker. Freeney has already refused a restructure from the Colts.

I like the James Hanna pick. I think you draft a LT in the 2nd with the mindset that he develops for 1 year and will be your starting LT in 2013. I like LT Kelechi Osemele in the 2nd. I like NT Ta’amu Alameda in the 3rd. TE James Hanna in the 5th. WR Devon Wylie in the 6th. QB Aaron Corp in the 7th.

My first mock was based on the O and D linemen I like being there, the second, on them being gone before we pick. The one D3 has in the body of the story was based on guys we’ve visited personally. Chances are that’ll be the most accurate, but these represent my own biases…..

We all could do a hundred more and not a one of us be close. I don’t think there is a snowballs chance on an Atlanta street in June that my draft is close. I tried to fit needs in like a “big nickel” in B. Peters but he is so under the radar we could get him UDFA easy where my OT sleeper Dustin Waldron is a must have overpay for kinda guy. I highly doubt if I could find him some NFL scout couldn’t. Arian Robinson is D3’s find but he is a must have for me too thus he is drafted while he probably will be UDFA. I don’t know about that as some ILB that missed the combine put up Kendricks like numbers and shot himself up boards recently. I watched film and he is weak ,timid with no kamikaze killer instinct..a loafer if you will, and yet because he is 1inch taller and his arms are a half inch longer he has shot past even Kendricks on some boards. I’m just glad to be done.

Considering my two picks are being scouting most heavily by playoff teams that can afford such luxuries easily and before us I don’t think they will be there either. I don’t think anyone truly worth a damn will be there and it will probably be better to trade back. Problem is, the talk on trade rumor sites is tons of teams are looking to trade back not up…sigh.

They keep saying this is the first draft after the rookie pay scale was implemented, was not last years the first? Atlanta was the first to realize the rookie pay scale would make the price to move up more expensive. Look what Washington paid to move up for RG3. We did it before it was a trend and we got JJ, a way better player than anyone in this draft.
