Just when I was ready to cancel my love for the Falcons(with them since they were hatched!), they jump up and start playing like probowlers! I was thinking they run, run pass, punt every down and they REFUSE too blitz the qback, which would have won them an extra game or 2. Lets be real, the SHOULD have won 2 more games with the right defenses called. So obvious! Well, here we go again for another year, hoping and praying(as if God really cares who wins a football game!), heart palps, excitement only to be let down again for the millionth time! Tampa has one hellofa defense. Great job BIG BIRDS! With you for another year! Bigdave from LA.

I will keep it short Cagers as always. We will go as far as our O-Line will take us. They are not as good this season as last. The QB has less time to throw and that is the difference from last season. The D is about the same as last season. I've heard all season that Ryan needs to step up into the pocket. What pocket? The play calls have been questionable but the O-Line has not done as well this season.

Point you bring up is building the team. I am a transplant and grew up watching the Skins...and hopped on the bandwagon for Falcons and Vick... but I have grown to love this team and organization.
The reason I bring this up, is I look at my former love, and what Danny Snyder not only did to the team, but the mgmt of that team and how the fans are just leaving in droves. He in my eyes has almost destroyed one of the most storied franchises in the league.
He tried to buy a fantasy football/Superbowl team. Every year, on paper, the Skins look so formable and ready to dominate the NFC East. However, there is never any team chemistry. Too many ego's and none of them can override the ego of the owner himself. And there is just so many bad decisions coming from the owner box. Just look at NO and think Williams in all rights was being groomed to be Head Coach.. but Snyder feared losing control.
So you have a team that is not a team in any real sense of the word.

Now I look at the Falcons, and see how we have gone through coaches, gone thru personel and now have an owner that has decided to trust his GM to do what is right to make this team a winner.
Yes it is a process, but I can see the hope, and as much as Ryan has slumped in his 2nd year, well so is the Falcons under Smitty. But the process is working.
The Owner trusts the GM and Coach. The Owner is more hands off (or so it seems) than in the past, and it appears that this team will fight for one another ( plus Smitty vs Hall didnt hurt)
I feel that this team has a heart. If we didnt, we would have easily rolled over against the Bucs. (and a few years back Mora/Petrino) I think that team would have rolled over.
So I have faith in this team, the process, and in the fact we are building to a very powerful and feared team. Mistakes have been made, draft picks that have not paid off etc... But feel that the core of GM, Coach, QB is there, and that we can build around Jerry (if he stays healthy), Beirmann, Lofton, Babineaux . and keep Anderson inside and not out on the end. I could be wrong, but we have the foundations...
Faith. Go Falcons!

LRD, your post from 9:59am "My biggest gripe when we do blitz/stunt/etc is that sitting here I can see what the Falcons are going to do. There is no surprise to it at all". My thoughts exactly, outside of the game against the Saints, that has been the story/situation all season long. I'm starting to think I could play quarterback against the Falcons and pick them apart. The Eagles game is winnable, every game remaining on the schedule is very winnable including the hated Saints, but please, I mean please, please, come up with some creativity on the defensive schemes, as I said and D3 reenforced, if you the Falcons lose being aggressive and creative I can live with that, I can even continue to support the process, but if they lose yet another game letting another team dictate every aspect of the game I'll lose hope.

Our good friend Seminole helps me stay encouraged toward the process, but last year you could at least see a process taking place, this year I don't think any fan can say that. As a lifelong Falcons fan, yes I'm tired of the losing, but more then that I'm tired of the team being pushovers, if the Falcons went 0-16 but show fight and heart in every game I could live with that, wouldn't like the losing but it would at least say the is building toward success. I know this is a Falcons blog section but the Hawks are a perfect example of building toward success. As a very young and inexperienced team they got beat constantly, constantly, but they continued to fight through it and played hard, most wanted the head coach's head, including myself, but the management of the team stuck with him, we wanted the head of their best player, Joe Johnson, but he stayed the course amongst youngsters, the team is now one of the best in the NBA, what happened, they built a core of youth, let them grow together then put pieces around them to maximize their potential, now they are a joy to watch and their blueprint is no different then the blueprint for any team, build a core, play aggressively and with time or through the "process" the team will be able to compete in each game. For all the talk about the schedule, the injuries, the personnel, the process and whatever other excuse we come up with can any really say they have seen defensive adjustments, creativity, aggression, and most importantly heart when it comes down to the Falcons defense and specifically the defensive playcalling, 11 all pros can't change that, you either have it or you don't, this years version of the Falcons don't, last years did and we can sum there misgivens up to age and talent, maybe the talent isn't there now, but its no excuse for the rest of whats going on, and the finger is pointing toward the coaching more then the players.

Being optimistic but the Raiders beat the Eagles ( yes people will say because game on west coast.. whatever, the Raiders beat the Eagles). The Skins should have beaten them the other week.
I think we could pull this off but this leads into the Defense discussion going on ( which is damn good and educational if I must say so myself).
My biggest gripe when we do blitz/stunt/etc is that sitting here I can see what the Falcons are going to do. There is no surprise to it at all.
