I don`t think this team can win five of their last six games and I doubt if they can win four of the last six.
I see the being favored against the Buc`s (at home) and against the Bills.
The games against the Jets and Bucs (on the road) will be about even odds.
The games against the Saints and Eagles they will be big home under dogs.

Looks like about a split over the last six and with some luck and decent play, they might win four and come away with a nine and seven record?
Don`t bet on it though.

The facts remain:
Poor D-line pass rush.
Only average (at best) at stopping the run defense.
A simply horrible secondary.
Inconsistent QB play.
Inconsistent O-line play.
Any body that`s not named Roddy White or Gonzales on the receiver corps rarely gets open and drops the ball as often as not.
Booker is a waste of roster space and Jenkins is not too much better.
The main RB has been banged up and overused (when he`s healthy) and his backup has been out most of the season.
An OC that makes boneheaded play calls at crucial times in the game.
A field goal kicker that can`t be counted on to make a thirty yard chip shot and BTW why is that guy still on the team after being a major factor in two key defeats?

Sorry folks, that`s just my current take on the state of the team.
They are a ways away from being a legitimate playoff team and way far away from being the elite team than many had thought at the start of the `09 campaign.

Great Post-Loss Hangover Day Cagers! This beginning to be common theme lately, huh? Losing 4 out of the last 5 games is really tough and gives us horrible flashbacks of the Lil' Jimmy Mora Era. All the games have been on the road and we woulda, coulda, shoulda won at least 2 or 3 of them, but the Falcons have at least played tough and not quit.

New post up. Sorry for the delay, had some serious errands to run. Read, enjoy, and delve into the post. Hopefull not too harsh on the defense for ya'lls taste.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we can beat Bucs x 2, Jets (tough), and Bills. I just can't see our D stopping PHIL or NO. We'll have to bust our buts to wins against the Bucs, Jets, and Bills. Beating NO or PHIL would be a gift. If we do make the playoffs, we'll be traveling to Dallas. Losing to that team in the playoffs may make me have to move.

The Falcons aren't dead yet. The next 3 games are all home games - and if the Falcons can take care of business at home (something that's not so far fetched), then 3 weeks from now, we'll be talking about an entirely different playoff picture.

We've got Tampa next week, then Philly, and then the Saints. I think the Falcons are more than capable of taking care of business against both the Bucs and Philly - and if we get the Saints at 7-5 - the Falcons will be extremely confident + motivated to take it to the Saints knowing that they're playoff birth is right there for the taking.

I'm honestly not too high on the playoffs as of now seeing that we've lost 4 of our past 5, but, who knows, 3 weeks from now we could be the wildcard threat that nobody wants to see in the playoffs. You know, the team that creeps up into the playoff picture because they rolled through teams in the 2nd half of the season.

Possible? Absolutely.
Likely? Who knows.

I won't count this team out when we're playing 4 of our last 6 at home. We're more than capable of beating any team in this league at home, and I wouldn't be surprised if we sat at 8-5 three weeks from now in the thick of the playoff picture.

I still see 10 wins.

vs Bucs (W)
vs Philly (W)
vs Saints (?)
at Jets (W)
vs Bills (W)
at Bucs (W)

We could easily finish this season 5-1 which would get us to 10 wins.

Leigh Bodden is another corner Dimitrioff passed on. He went to New England for 1 year 2.2 mil roughly. At 6'1 195 I see why Dimitrvoff passed on him....he's over 5'9. He also had 3 int's against the Jets Sunday.

Prayer is going to play a major part for the rest of the season. We have pray that other teams lose so that we can get in.

CBrass - I had us losing the CAR game, but I thought we'd win the NO game here at home. I don't beleive that anymore. We still have a shot, but even at 10-6 (which means beating PHI), I don't think we'll make the playoffs. We lose the tiebreakers with too many teams.

Coop,

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I understand why people have been calling for a big guy in the middle. I'm guessing after Abe ran through Jake Long during the first game teams have started to double him.

I was thinking the same thing about Nicholas. I guess he read what we were saying and wanted to shut us up...LOL Now let's hope the secondary (mainly Houston) has been reading what we have been saying about getting their heads turned around. It was so frustrated to hear both Moose and Goose comment on the exact same thing.

I went back at looked at my predictions I had us at 6-4 at this point the difference is the Carolina game. Coop once again you're right we are going to be kicking ourselves about that game!!

For all who keep looking for Abe, I'm afraid we won't see him like last season. Never under estimate the value of a DT the size of a house. The loss of Grady is killing Abe. He took up two or three blockers leaving Abe one-on-one more often last year. Plus, when Abe and Beerman get a push on the edge, how many QBs have we seen this year tuck it and ruyn right up the middle? Losing Jeery hurt, but my bigger fear is that he wasn't the right draft pick regardless of injury.

I know I'm a broken reocrd, but a strong D and strong O are built the same way, on the line from the inside out. We are decent on the O line, but our interior D line is bad. Our CBs are some of the worst I've ever seen, but the D line is were it starts. Whatever we do in this offseason, we have to address the DT.

BTW, what did everyone think of Nicholas? The Cage was bashing him hard last week, but I saw him make several good plays this week.

As for the playoofs, we are in miracle mode. 9-7 might be a miracle at this point. I see us lose to Phil and NO. Can't give up any more. We will look back at that CAR (and I think DAL) game for a long time and kick ourselves.

I have defended Elam a bit, but someone (box?) made the point that we could younger at kicker too. After some thought, you're right. Why not bring in Cotou? We're losing with Elam, we can lose with out him. I will say this though, that loss was not his fault alone. I'm sorry, but I can't put it on anyone but the D. When you score 31 points in the NFL, you HAVE to win. Unfortunately, I fear the D is playing as well as it can.
