SARAH B-you showed up to the party after it had ended. You simply have to expect us diehard Falcon fans to be as passionate in our disagreements as we are about our team. There was never any animosity on my part, and I didn't detect any from LONG TIME FALCON or BLACK TALON. Mainly, it was just a matter of all of us having varying degrees of misunderstanding, so all's well.

I'm not going to back off when it comes to expressing my opinions, and it would become truely boring on these blogs if any of you regulars decided to back off as well. After suffering for so many yrs as Falcon fans, and considering what we now have, it's just hard for me to stomach the negative attitudes about the team. It's like some of our fans are looking for excuses to berate the team and it's chances for having a successful. If it's not the DB's it's the DL or LB's that's being used as an excuse.

I simply love the way TD and Smitty have worked together to either resolve or minimize our OFF/DEF issues. Solving our CB and DL issues is absolutely nothing compared to the overwhelming OFF/DEF issues our coaching staff confronted and sucessfully overcame or minimized last yr. Just like last yr, teams had better get us early or stand back and watch us fly.

Isn't it ironic that a team named the Falcons achieves the bulk of it's OFF success on the ground instead of through the air? One more thing. I can't remember which insightful Falcon fan made the observation, but it was dead on point. THEY BASICALLY SAID, WHY GET SO DOWN ON OUR DEF FOR GIVING UP BIG PLAYS ON 3RD AND LONG? AFTER ALL, WASN'T IT OUTSTANDING DEF PLAY THAT PUT THE RAVENS IN 3ND AND LONG SITUATIONS IN THE 1ST PLACE? If our DEF was good enough to stop them on 1st and 2nd downs, our coaching staff can easily rectify those 3rd down issues. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

BLACK TALON-thank you so much for that article. It pretty much says what I've been saying about the way our coaching staff has used this preseason to evaluate and learn rather than win gms or worry about perceptions. Now that they've seen how each of our young CB's perform under different situations, they can now design schemes to take maximum advantage of their individual strengths.

If we continue to contain the run, teams won't be as effective using playaction against us. With the 2 new CB additions, we now have a perfect blend of youth and experience without giving up any speed or quickness. Just imagine Miami going back to pass, and DE JAbraham going 100%, DE KBiermann carrying his outstanding production into the regular season and either TLewis or PJerry, along with JBabineaux coming up the middle. Before this season is over with, we're going to be a team to recon with.

BT, great article and, to quote CBrass, "One can only hope". I agree with the author's idea that Coach Smith was only evaluating in preseason and they will go back to the bend-but-don't-break defense. I also agree that the best time to leave a cornerback on an island against a great wide receiver is in the preseason, but we will see soon enough.
