Falcons fill TE spot with Gonzalez

Just in time for the draft, it looks like the Falcons got the tight end position taken care of, trading for Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons didn’t give up much to get Gonzalez, a Pro Bowler, and now they can focus on the draft and some impact players on defense.

It took awhile, but the Falcons hopefully have filled the void left by Alge Crumpler. Now Matt Ryan will have a big target to dump off to. Hope to see the tight end be a bigger part of the game plan this season. I’m excited about Gonzalez becoming a Falcon. He had 10 touchdowns last season. Can you imagine what he can do here? The possibilities are endless.

Now onto the draft.

The Falcons have a lot of holes to fill on defense. Letting Brooking go is probably going to be felt more in the locker room than on the field. He was the defensive captain, so that spot will have to be filled early in the season.

For those on Twitter, the Falcons will be tweeting about their draft picks on these accounts, according to the Falcons Web site. And the AJC’s Mark Bradley will be blogging about the Falcons draft Saturday.

Could Matthew Stafford really be the No. 1 for the Lions? Only time will tell.
