The Falcons, the No. 1 seed in the NFC, will host the lowest seed to advance at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Georgia Dome, according to the schedule released by the league tonight.
In the AFC wild card game, the Cincinnati Bengals play at Houston at 4:30 pm Saturday. In the NFC, the Vikings play at the Green Bay Packers at 8 p.m. Saturday. If the sixth-seeded Vikings can spring the upset, they would face the Falcons in the divisional round.
On Sunday, Indianapolis plays at Baltimore at 1 p.m. in the second AFC wild card game.
The final game of the weekend will feature the NFC East winner — Dallas or Washington — hosting Seattle at 4:30 pm.
The NFL also announced the times of the Divisional Round games. On Saturday, January 12th, the Denver Broncos will host the lowest remaining AFC seed at 4:30 p.m., while the San Francisco 49ers will play at 8 p.m. ET on the same day.
After the Falcons open the Sunday slate, the New England Patriots will finish off the weekend at 4:30 pm. on the same day.

I really wanted the Saturday night slot. It has more of a playoff atmosphere like that. The dome would be rocking more and the players would feed off the fact that it’s a night playoff game at home. But we’ll have to stick with the regular 1 pm game. Maybe that’s a good thing.

I’m guessing the Seahawks will be coming here. Dallas and Washington look like they may not be quite up to par with the other NFC playoff teams. If the Vikings can defeat GB two weeks in a row, the boys in purple will be coming to the dome, but that probably will not happen.
Early odds look like Bengals by 5 over the Texans!
GB by 8 over the Vikings.
Baltimore by 6 1/2 over the Colts.
We’ll have to wait for the NFC East to be decided to see the Seattle odds.

The Falcons have been like Jekyll and Hyde the last five weeks. Mr. Hyde looked pretty stinkin’ ugly today. Hope Dr. Jekyll shows up for the playoffs. He might want to bring a running back, an O-line and an inspired pass defense with him because we saw none of that today. Presumably, Koetter will unveil some new wrinkles for the playoffs and Nolan will kick some defensive butts. If it’s one and done again, then this administration will have max’d out and (despite 13-3) some heads will need to roll.

Opponent either will be the Vikings, Seattle, Dallas, or Washington. It can’t be the 49ers or Packers because the 49ers have a bye as the 2nd seed and the Packers are the 3rd seed. The Falcons get the lowest remaining seed out of Vikings, Dallas or Washington, and Seattle. Personally I think the Falcons can handle all of them. Seattle would give us a bigger fight because of their physicality.

Who would you rather face? Vikings, Seahawks, or Redskins? Each team poses a threat to the Falcons and can expose a weakness the Falcons have. I don’t think the Falcons could stop Adrian Peterson. Christian Ponder is also a mobile QB. Same with Russell Wilson and definitely RGIII. I just don’t know. But it’ll be one of the three. If I HAD to pick, I’d say Minnesota because if you shut down Adrian Peterson you can stop them.

Sad looking squad out there today. Reminded far too much of the playoff game against Green Bay a few years ago. If anything good comes out of this, it is that Coach Smith’s team has not lost two in a row. That bodes well for the first playoff win.

Fans tend to put their favorite team under a microscope, and may not scrutinize other teams so closely. I can assure you that the fans of other teams do not want to come to ATL, especially after an ATL loss at home. (Cruise by the blogs of other teams. They stress about their teams shortcomings and tend to think other teams are better than their team! Sound familiar?)
Every team has issues, even the mighty Packers are a flawed team. The biggest challenge I see, would be NE in the Super Bowl. The Falcons are very capable of defeating, (or losing to), any team in the NFC. I like the odds with the new coaches and home field. The prior coaches were too passive in my opinion.

I’m still voting for the rookie quarterbacks…..Seahawks or Redskins. We could beat the Vikings, too. But a rookie quarterback is going to make some serious mistakes in a playoff game, especially on the road. Packers are the team that posses the toughest test. But their secondary is a sieve. If we are at full-strength, we should be favored against any team we face.

I don’t care what anyone says; today’s performance has to be concerning. I think the Packers and Niners have been losing lately in an effort to get that six seed (Who wouldn’t want to face the Falcons in the conference semis? It’s the next best thing to a second round bye!) Yes I’m a fan, but a cynical one.

When the Falcons win in 2 weeks, today’s debacle (any dime store coach would have played his starters for the first half only to give them some game speed reps) will be forgotten.
Doesn’t matter who we get in our game, we have to be ready to play, unlike today. Given a choice, I would rather face the Vikings (their QB has a hot wife but has trouble with the hot read) than the Redskins (Hall of Fame coach) or the Seahawks (Pete Carroll’s an idiot but they are a hot team with a smart, steady, and highly mobile QB and great running back).
Glad we don’t have to relive Aaron Rodgers in the Dome in two weeks even if they beat the Vikings (as they should but then again, they should have beat the Giants last year).
Someone needs to tell Nolan and Dirk that we have been down this road before and we need them to make the difference this go ’round. Dimitroff needs to distract Smitty all week so Nolan and Dirk can do their jobs without any of his nerves getting in the way. Somebody get Arthur a new mirror to go with his new girlfriend and he will stay out of the way.
We need the Falcons to come out in two weeks and play like they did after the bye week when we destroyed Philly by scoring early and often. That’s the edge we need.
Abe, Dunta, and the whole crew need to rest (avoid the strip clubs guys for the next 45 days), get therapy and deep tissue massages, stretch plenty, and go into playoff monk mode. We have to focus!
This is our year folks. We win not just one, not just two, but three playoff games thereby winning it all sending future Hall of Famer Tony G. out on a high note—-so high in fact that he decides to enter Canton as a Falcon!

First half of the season, 8-0. Second half, 5-3 with the loses to teams with losing records then and losing records to finish the season. The Falcons are not exactly making us believe that they are not like the Falcons teams of yore. Championship caliber teams do not look this. Based on second half performance I do not see the Falcons wining the first game. Falcons canot stop the run, Peterson or Gore(SF) are salivating at the opportunity to run against Falcons. “O” line is terrible, Ryan is getting hammered and they cannot open a hole for Falcons nonexistant running game. “D” line is atrocious. I am a Falcon fan since ‘78 and want to believe that we may win it all, but “actions speak louder than words.” Go Falcons!

Falcons will once again be one and done. It should be apparent that their OL can’t control the line of scrimmage as their offensive rushing yards ranks well below the NFL average. Turner has nothing to run through and Waterbug Rogers is too tiny to get much. Because teams don’t fear the rushing attack, they will load up on blitzes and be in Matty Stringbean Ryan’s face all day. Defense if far from being dominating who give up 150 yards to a rookie RB and make a pedestrian QB look All Pro.

Maybe the good news is that the Falcons seem to have only lost one game this year where it looked like they were actually trying to win (the first loss). In the other two losses they didn’t show much effort. If true, it doesn’t say much for their character but I’m hoping it says they can beat anybody in the league if they put forth the effort. I agree with Coach playing everybody except those needing more mending time but maybe some of the team didn’t.

The season is now over for 20 teams in this league. The Falcons played 42 seasons before Smith and Dimitroff came to town. For 34 of those years, our season was over around this time. In only 8 of 42 seasons did the Falcons go to the post-season under 5 different coaches. In the last 5 years, we’ve been to four playoffs. No other Falcons coach has done that. I’m thankful that with the regular season over there is still something to write about on the Falcons blogs. We could be one of the other 20 and that would sum up the history of this franchise before Ryan, Smith and Dimitroff. I hope we go all the way this year but even if we don’t, this ride has been much more enjoyable than most.

I have no idea why Smitty thought it was best to play the starters yesterday, but then again he gets paid more money than I do to figure that stuff out. Glad the regular season is offer. As much as I don’t like Dunta, we need him back in two weeks. Abe has been a force this year and hopefully he can wrap some duct tape around that ankle and get back on the field. This is going to be a long two weeks. We have seen the Falcon at they best several times this year. I see no reason why they can’t bring home the trophy.

Historically the NFL gives the early game to the #1 seed vs the WC winner because the game is not supposed to be very competitive (#1 is supposed to roll). They always give the prime time games to the closer seeds.

I am strong. Let that Minn team with AP come to Atlanta , I will keep him from running 200 yds. Oh I forgot I dont play defense. But I will run for my usual 50 yds at 2.7 yds a pop. My legs feel strong. Just give me the rock and get out of the way. No one replaces me. I watched that rookie Morris with Washington yesterday, he aint no runner. He was a sixth round draftee. I am the man in Atlanta. Cant wait for two weeks so I can show what I can really do. I am going to rumble. I am going to conquer. Falcons will go deep in playoffs. Hope we dont have to play Green Bay though. They are unstoppable in the passing game. Dunta is hurt. He dont play man too good. Its all right though. I will rumble ! Everyone is sayin that they wish the Falcons would be playing MN. I disagree. You watched AP against GB; the Falcons are the worst at stopping the run. I’d rather just play GB. If we get the Seahawks-look out. Just about anyone we face-look out. I finally watched the whole Falcons game highlights (I missed the first 2 quarters-and wondered to myself-why are the Falcons down 16-3? Looking at that first and second quarter-answered my questions. The Falcons are a fickle team. They don’t seem to be motivated when they know a game doesn’t count for anything. Maybe they (falsely) think that all will come alive in the playoffs because of one and done-but that’s a foolish way to think. Maybe they should play GB-for the revenge factor-like they did the Giants. I don’t like the 1pm game. I think the bye week will help.

This is no championship team. All 3 of our possible 1st 3 opponents are running teams and we can’t stop the run. All 3 have qb’s who also run and we can’t rush the passer anyway. If Abraham is out look for the d-line to get dominated with no double teams needed. I’ve also never seen a team have so many interior blitzes get picked up so easily. The secondary is better, but they take poor angles if runners get to the 2nd level. Tony G is running on fumes with turner. The guards are getting killed weekly, Konz isn’t ready to play. We can’t run for a yard and appear to have given up trying to run on 3rd downs. Ryan gets shook up too easily for them to block poorly. If his first read is covered he becomes very average. Outside of sideline lobes our deep passing game is nonexistent. Add in no special teams return threat and 1 and done is a real possibility.
Seems like the FAlcons internally think they can just out score teams, but the points don’t come so easy in the playoffs. Now Smitty seems to think the reason they were crushed by the packers was they didn’t practice hard enough..Ryan will need the best game of his career for us to win with him throwing 40+ times.

I am sorry Smith is a con artist. I will guarentee there is no way Abe will be playing in the Playoffs game. He was carted off. When he said he was optimistic is his press conference, I would have challenge him and said do you gaurantee he would play. CMON D-Led don’t be afraid to pressure Smith every now and then… LOL
