Atlanta Falcons: Safety William Moore to miss fourth straight game

By Michael Cunningham

FLOWERY BRANCH–Falcons coach Mike Smith said today he expects starting safety William Moore will miss Sunday’s regular-season finale against Tampa Bay because of a hamstring injury.

Moore missed the previous three games with the injury. Smith said Moore hasn’t been medically cleared to play.

“I would like for William to be ready to go but the doctors have got to make that determination,” Smith said. “We’re to a point in the process that we need to get him as healthy as can be. I would say that he’s not going to play in the game this week. That would be our take on it.”

The Falcons have a bye next week before opening the playoffs on Jan. 12 or 13.

Falcons players who sat out practice today in addition to Moore were wide receiver Roddy White (knee), cornerback Christopher Owens (hamstring) and defensive end Cliff Matthews (hamstring).

White was on the injury report before the past two games but started both. Owens left Saturday’s game at Detroit with his injury. Matthews did not play against the Lions.

Falcons defensive tackles Jonathan Babineaux (ribs) and Corey Peters (knee) participated in practice on a limited basis. Both Babineaux and Peters played against the Lions.

We need the Missouri Hammer for the playoffs not Tampa Bay. Get healthy Willy Mo! Mike Smith should keep Roddy White out of the game also… he’s too valuable. Let all the other starters play about 3 quarters against Tampa Bay and then pull ‘em. Go Falcons!! Make a Big playoff run!!!

Mike Smith is playing it safe! We don’t care about a meaningless game but I really would like William Moore to have a tune up game before he faces a playoff team! Regardless, Lets go get that first ring!!!

Hope he is alright b/c thats 3-4 straight. As long as he is ready come playoff time. I really think we’ll get Seattle. Sure they’re hot but we have what it takes to cool them off. They havent played here.

I could care less. Its about the playoffs. Keep Moore healthy, no need to play him anyway. Bye Week only helps him. Hamstring injuries are hard to come back from. He gets to rest his body and also heal the hammy.

Playoffs looking good

Been reading some Buc’s’ message boards. They want to see more of the unseen in this game with us to evaluate the talent that doesn’t get to play. On the flip, I don’t see HC Smitty doing that on our side… he wants to win this to keep the roll rolling. This is great unless we lose a critical starter to a serious injury and then his name will be media mud, lol.

If we get Seattle, the Falcons will go to the NFC title game. I think the Falcons will blow their 1st playoff opponent out of the stadium. They are ready to go.

How serious is this injury…is he going to be ready for the playoffs? A “strain” is usually better in a week or two…this is a MONTH now.

Do not let John Abraham play, he looks beat up too! Willy Mo better play in the playoffs or I will say do not resign him. Hopefully there is a chance for Brent Grimes to play again!

Must be a major pull for him to be out almost a month….think he might be “milking it” a bit, though.
Hope he gets healthy for the Playoffs….he CAN be a difference maker WHEN/IF he’s on the field…

GO, YOU DIRTY BIRDS!!!

level 2 strain like the one Urlacher had take three weeks to recover and thats not to football shape. The Hammy is probably healed but the team needs him to be able to perform a high level without re-injury cause we might need him for two more games! GO BIRDS!

Tampa’s checked out. We could beat them with 2nd stringers…but I do think the starters should play at least until half time.

yeah, I’m really curious if Grimes could be in at CB again because no matter who we face in the playoffs, he’d be a real asset. Nothing against McClain though, that guy has really answered the call.

MR2 should play until he throws one TD. Hopefully in the first quarter of Sunday’s game. Then sit him down for backups McCown and DominiqueD. I want to see more of this kid (DD), at the QB position. During the preseason he showed great potential.
In what amounts to a meanless game, let take no chances with any of our starters and key backups who are not 100% healthy. After all, the success of this season will be totally tied to the PLAYOFFS.

This game is meaningless, all that matters now is that we get everyone ready to go for the start of the playoffs. Whats that saying? Oh yeh, ( CAN’T WAIT ).

Sounds like this hamstring went into the muscle causing some swelling. Otherwise Mike Smith is just being cautious. That’s fine. Please be cautious! We need him for the playoffs!

Front page of the Falcons Sports page says “Safety Williams to miss regular season finale”. Understanding that we have no Safety named Williams I will assume (I hate that) you mean William Moore. Not sure who wrote the head line but you can really tell the quality of news reporting is pathetic. The Falcons can get no love in the National media and we as Falcons fans get upset by it but our local paper can’t even get our starting Safety’s name right. Not blaming you for it D Led i enjoy your work but …

The Falcons need the rest. There is no sense in getting key players hurt in a game that will only benefit the win column and enhance some stats. Time for the backups to tune up, they may be needed. I think the mindset of the FALCONS has matured, they know what needs to be done and how to do it. The rest will be beneficial and some of the players need some serious healing time.

take it from me.

The Falcons don’t play well after a layoff, play everybody that can walk, don’ let them lie around and get lazy, thats what happen a couple years back when we played the pack, and it did not go well.keep them focused.

I think the coaching staff knows what they are doing and it’s been them holding him out, not him limping around like he’s got a broken leg.

Run Turner till his tongue hangs out. Find out for sure if he can help in the playoffs or not. Rotate lineman (both sides) so many plays they think they doing wind sprints from running off and on the field. Same with linebackers. Play every man on the active roster for many reasons, the main one being that you never know who you may have to put out there thru the playoffs. Stuff happens.
GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“The Falcons don’t play well after a layoff, play everybody that can walk, don’ let them lie around and get lazy, thats what happen a couple years back when we played the pack, and it did not go well.keep them focused.”

Look, we lost that game because our secondary was a sieve and our passing attack was not up to today’s NFL standards! Both of those things have improved immensely! The last thing we need NOW is an injury to a couple of key players or a few more of our starters getting dinged up in a meaningless game! Play them one or two series and then PULL them all out!

Y’all who think Willy Mo is easily replaced or should be “let go” due to his injury issues. Are you smoking poppy seeds?? He’s one of our best players on D and he gives the secondary that nasty, hit you in the mouth, Ronnie Lott intimidation factor. Plus, in our un-traditional 4-2-5 scheme he is usually the 7th man in the box because he’s like a LB/S hybrid. He’s more valuable to this team IMO than anyone not named Matt Ryan, Julio Jones (cause he makes Roddy that much more unstoppable) or Sean Weatherspoon. Rest up Willy Mo and be ready for WAR on January 12/13th!!

It is hard to say, how you should treat this game if you are a Head Coach. I know this, all 53 man in that locker room have to play there best football if they are to get to the Super Bowl. William Moore has to rehab, study, and be in the right place to intercept or hit the person with football. It is hard to say, but you do want man healthy going into a playoff game regardless of the outcome at the end of the 4th quarter. For now, you have to look into the roster and see who can help you, that even your enemy hasn’t seen on the football field. NFL is cruel, this no time to play pretty, because this is the playoffs. GO GET YOUR FIRST PLAYOFF WIN!!!!! GO FALCONS!!!!

I think Smith is making a smart move, Let Moore rest. Get him ready for the Super Bowl run.

I also like the fact of going out to beat Tampa Bay. The last few playoff years the Falcons have not played hard to win the last regular season game and then came back and lost in the first round. Lets not repeat that bad habit………….GO FALCONS!

Rest all the starters after the first quarter. Then they will all be rested and healed for the playoffs, there is plenty of precedence that a team with all that time off can and will win the first playoff game. Falcons all the way to the SB.
