Atlanta Falcons: League fines Chris Hope and Roddy White

The league fined Falcons safety Chris Hope $30,000 today for his helmet-to-helmet against Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz last Sunday.

Hope had expected to be fined for the hit, which drew an unnecessary roughness penalty. All such penalties are reviewed by the league for possible fines.

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White also was fined $7,875 for scuffling with Giants cornerback Corey Webster, who was docked the same amount.

The fine on Hope was expected…and justified. The fine on Rowdy is weak. COME ON MAN! Guess he shoulda just asked the guy to please quit pushing him after the whistle!

Webster started the fight with Roddy. You cant expect a grown man to let another man just push him around. I think Webster should have been fined for STARTING the fight, but roddy white was defending himself

If Cruz had remember he was playing football and not dodge ball maybe Hope would not have been fined. Cruz left his man card home that day and dropped his hands and ball to prevent the hit.

If the NFL truly reviews this stuff, they should have seen that Webster started it and he should have gotten the fine.

What a huge injustice. Roddy should be fined twice that much for making comments detrimental to his intelligence. Hope should not have been fined at but given a bonus.

Exactly, Roddy gets himself in alot of trouble but this was not his fault. He should be able to protect himself with no penalty. Why do we think these refs are better than the ones that started the season. Given enough time, they would have been better than the ones we have suffered thru the last few decades. We are getting to a point where no one has guts enough to put blame on only the one that started it.

if cruz had the courage to raise his arms to catch that pass where it was thrown. the hit would be legal !(Scott Case is disgusted I’m sure) to get a 1st down being a chicken shot is just wrong!!

There was little wrong with that hit, It was a little high at the end yes, but they have absolutely given the league to QB’s and Receivers.

Any records any receiver sets in this day and age, is meaningless. As meaningless as Barry Bonds Home Run Record.

If they are going to fine for hits like that, then they HAVE to give DB’s the ability to put their hands on receivers down field. It’s impossible to breakup a pass like that anymore.

I’m not saying it wasn’t illegal, it was clearly, and he was flagged. It’s the hit the league doesn’t want to see. All Falcons players know that anyway because of Dunta’s hit in Philadelphia.

There was nothing dirty at all though. 30 grand for that, is just dumb.

This fine is yet another example of how this commissioner is ruining this league! This will be flag football within the next few years at this rate.

DBs know exactly where their hits are landing. They have been trained their whole life to blow the receiver’s body away from the ball and that high hits are more devastating. That is a hard habit to break but the rule is intended to prevent life threatening injuries. It doesn’t prevent good football from being played and I can accept it.

Roddy White has elevated his receiving skills to a very high level, however he still has one very important thing to learn. Football is a game with RULES. It is not a street fight among thugs. Football is filled with thugs punching, poking, stomping, pinching, biting, etc. You even get a lot more of it if you react like an idiot. He needs to learn to smile and walk back to the huddle like a PROFESSIONAL. There is plenty of opportunity after the snap to retaliate. He is killing his team and his ego may just prevent them from winning a Superbowl if he doesn’t wake up. Roddy is smart enough and there is still time to make adjustments. GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!
