Offensive line turns in stellar showing vs. Giants

The Falcons’ offensive line turned in a stellar performance against the Giants’ vaunted defensive line rotation that Atlanta coach Mike Smith repeatedly called the best in the NFL.

The Falcons forced the Giants to respect the running attack. They ran the ball 35 times for 125 yards (3.5 per carry) when discounting three kneel-downs by quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Luke McCown.

Last year, the Giants dominated the line of scrimmage in the Falcons 24-2 loss in the playoffs.

Facing a number of draw plays and some screen passes, the Giants never got their pass rush rolling. They finished with one sack and three quarterback hits.

“I thought our offensive line play fantastic,” quarterback Matt Ryan said. “Our guys really stepped up to the challenge.”

Chris Canty, rushing over Falcons left guard Justin Blalock, got the Giants only sack, that coming in the second quarter when the Falcons already had a 17-0 lead. Jason Pierre-Paul, who leads the Giants with 6.5 sacks, was shut out.

“They’ve got some great athletes up front,” Falcons left tackle Sam Baker said. “So we knew that we were going to have to stay balanced. We were going to have to definitely establish the run game.”

For just the second time this season, the Falcons ran the ball more times than they passed, attempting only 28 passes. In a win over Philadelphia on Oct. 28, they rushed the ball 37 times and threw 29 passes.

“For us, the run game helps open up so many different things for us,” Baker said. “When we are able to run it, it lets Matt be better, lets Julio (Jones) and all of those guys be better, too. It was really just something to keep them off balance.”

Baker also believed this was the team’s most complete game.

“Sometimes we started off fast and didn’t finish as strong,” Baker said. “Then last week started off slow and finished strong. To put together four good quarters was huge.”

The Falcons proved me wrong and I am thrilled!
Honestly, I’m ecstatic!
You played tough! You fellas took it to the Giants!
You won BIG and I am so happy.
Their coach bemoans lost chances and missed opportunities.
As Spoon says.”it’s between the lines”!
You smacked the G-Men in the face and they didn’t know how to respond.
Kudos to the entire team. Feels so much better when the team wins!
The pundits herald the Packers, the Broncos, The 49’s as the apparent class of the
NFL and leading contenders for the SB.
One pundit commented that this WIN was a “Signature” win for the Falcons.
Others clowns said the Giants just got caught looking ahead.
Really..Really?
I agree with AS22..yes we have our “haters”.
We don’t care what the others say.
Winners never quit and losers never win.
Rise Up….Angry Birds!!!
Detroit this week and Stafford will also pass before he will run.
Calvin Johnson needs to be chipped hard. Show him what tough is!
Watch the drag pass across the middle and the flare..
Stafford does not like to be hit!
Pin this on the bulletin board.

Sunday was an impressive performance by the Falcons. Congrats to the team and the coaching staff. What a turnaround from last year. I hope they carry this play into the playoffs. If so, then the outcome could be exciting and fun to watch.

The O-line play (helped by the play calling) was the one big suprise for me in this game. Not only was Pierre Paul shut out rushing Ryan, but he got his a$$ trucked by Michael Turner on that first TD. That was FUNNY! Watch the replay if ya missed it

After teams had been applying pressure up the middle the last few weeks yesterday was a welcome change of pace. The Giants front four was my primary fear coming into this game but our five was up to the task and then some. Matty was rarely touched and the run blocking was the best in weeks. Kudos to the line, coach Koetter and coach Hill.

All the best to you and your DLed

Such a pleasure to watch. Kudos to the O-Line. They looked AWESOME! When the Falcons add a stellar running game to their scheme, they can’t be beat! 4 quarters of O-Line at its best. It doesn’t get any better than that. This was a TEAM win for everyone in the organization. Everyone executed at a dominant level from preparation to game planning to play on the field. If our Falcons keep this focus and continue to improve as they have been, they will be a force to be reckoned with. They WILL strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. I saw standouts at EVERY position all game long. How can they lose with this type of play? GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!
