Atlanta Falcons: What they said after 34-0 Falcons victory over Giants

“They don’t remember what you do in September and October. It’s all about December and January. We’ve been saying we haven’t played our best. We haven’t played our best game and when we watch the game tomorrow, we’ll probably have that same opinion.”

Falcons coach Mike Smith

“Those three fourth-down stops are like turnovers. We know that when you make them as a football team, it can change the momentum. It multiplies when you stop them on defense.”

Smith

“Coach Smith does a great job at the beginning of the year preaching that he wants to win at home and defend our dome. We’ve done a good job of that. I think our fans have been awesome and they’ve been loud in the dome. I think that helps when our defense is playing.”

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on the team’s 11-game home winning streak

“It feels great to play that well on both sides of the ball, especially after last week (a 30-20 defeat to the Panthers). If we can keep this momentum and passion going, I think the sky is the limit for us.”

Falcons safety Thomas DeCoud

“Last week everybody was talking smack about us, (saying) this, that and this. But we just continued to do what we are doing. We don’t worry about what everybody else is saying. I think that’s the reason we are the kind of team we are. Everybody has a bad game.”

Falcons defensive end John Abraham on responding to the defeat at Carolina.

“We know what kind of team we have. … I think we were enjoying the victory and the (NFC South) championship thing. Getting in the playoffs was not our major goal. We just ate that up too much and seeing a team with the record (the Panthers) had, just came out and thought the game was over with. But they came with a lot of fire and we didn’t.”

Abraham, on the letdown at Carolina

“I don’t know if it was about making a statement. We had to play better, especially against the world champs, the team that bounced us out of the playoffs last year. That’s the effort that it took. We might see that (Giants) team again.”

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez

“They came out and tried to get the jam on me — and I knew they were going to try to get the jam and I was pointing at them — and Matt put that ball in perfect. Actually the defender made a good play on it but if you put the ball up there, then I feel like I can go up there and climb that ladder and make a play on the ball.”

Gonzalez on his leaping 12-yard touchdown catch

“He just jumped it. That’s what he does and has done a number of times.”

Giants quarterback Eli Manning on Asante Samuel’s interception

“We have two games to play. There is a lot of fire and a lot of character in that locker room. We have to come back from a devastating loss and shake it off somehow, some way.”

Giants coach Tom Coughlin

Mike in Minnesota…living in exile myself for many years, and being prevented by marriage from installing a dish, I have found ways to get the games by questionable means, and for free. One place in particular is reliable. I’ll fill you if you like.

And, y’all, this is as optimistic as I’ve been all year. Exactly what they needed to show today.

Snelling should have been given the game ball. Offense and defense played great today–and yes, as a team.
The only time you see Snelling in the game is when they throw a screen pass to him. The guy can carry th e load.

This was a statement game. We are contenders and all those people who thought we could not beat playoff contender teams can eat their words. It was great to see both sides of the ball excell in the same game. Those 4th down stops from the defense made the game. Now we are looking at 14-2 record with victories agains Detroit and Tampa Bay we have a bye week in th playoffs and a challenge to play like we did today to win the Super Bowl. Go Dirty Birds!

If we are who we say we are (and I think the Falcons are), there is no team that we don’t want to see in the playoffs. If we think that way we aren’t ready for the big dance. I, for one, say that we are.

I’m pretty sure any idiot can see that Snelling should be our starting running back and Coach Smith has him on the bench 98% of the time. I just can’t figure out why. Why? Anybody got a clue?

True Falcon Fan

@4:36 —- #1) #33 makes about 7 times more $$$$$$$$$$ per year than #44
#2) #33 in this offensive scheme is the work horse “The Hammer” — agreed his season has not been his best.
#3) #44 is a situational player for this offensive scheme, agreed his performance is better at times mainly because #44 is better pass catcher than #33 —- also probably #44 is a capable rusher —However, Snelling is NOT a hammer!

All said probably after this season is over there will be changes in the backfield next season.

Go Falcons — Lions next

Release the 3 headed monster in the runnin’ game. Snelling gotta get more touches in the backfield. I would start him against the Lyins and the Quizz show against the Bucs. Workem’ all in different situations so really can’t track tendecies. Win Superbowl.
