Who’s the best receiving tandem? Roddy & Julio or Cruz & Nicks?

FLOWERY BRANCH – Back before the Falcons played the Cowboys, Roddy White sat down with Michael “The Playmaker”

Who's the best wide receiver tandem in the NFL?

Irvin and discussed the state of the wide receiver position in the NFL.

Here’s a link to that blog:

Michael Irvin, Hall of Fame playmaker, visited Flowery Branch last week and interviewed White and teammate Julio Jones. Irvin asked White if Atlanta’s duo is better than Cowboys wide receiver tandem Dez Bryant and Miles Austin.

“You serious?” White said, an appropriate response to that question.

Are they better than the Giants’ pair, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz?

“We are a better group than them,” White said, a less obvious answer to that question. “I’m not taking shots at people. Victor Cruz is a lot more of a slot receiver. The big boys play on the outside.”

White and Julio Jones have combined for more catches and yards than Cruz and Nicks this season.

The two Falcons have 140 catches for 2,137 yards and 12 touchdowns. Cruz and Nicks, who has been slowed by a knee injury, have combined for 126 catches for 1,656 yards and 12 touchdowns.

“I’ve got to go with my guys,” running back Michael Turner said. “I can’t go with anybody else.”

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon said, “Come on now, I’m taking my guys any day.”

Jones has 997 yards receiving and needs 3 for first career 1,000-yard season.

In the past 10 games at home, White has 69 catches for 1,075 yards (107.5 per game) and 7 touchdowns to go with seven 100-yard games.

Since 2007, Whie’s 548 receptions are the most in the NFC.

Being the best isn’t showing up for interviews…..Its at game time!!!! So Falcons receivers need to stop the talk and walk the walk of great receivers……

Because that is what Giants wideouts do….They have SuperBowl rings to show their greatness….

Roddy and Julio need to be ready to put up big numbers throughout the remaining season plus postseason….

Falcons need to be coaching up Drew Davis for slot receiver…With his size and speed, he can help bring more physicality at wideouts……HD is too undersize to go into the teeth of defense.

Falcons D best show up for this game to put Eli’s lights out or Eli will light up Falcons secondary…..

Falcons on three, Dominate….

Julio and Roddy are pretty good, but it seems they have falling off somewhat the past 4 or 5 games. Granted, Julio was hurt. Seems like a lot of dropped passes and not getting open has hurt them in the third quarter of the season.

I love Roddy and Julio, but let me ask you. On 4th down and 7 in the playoffs, down by 4, who would you rather have, Roddy and Julio or Calvin Johnson and a used car salesman? Id take Calvin and whover for one important down.

And we got people like skip bayless who try to bring up old news when roddy and Julio talked about this two months ago making it seem like roddy said this last night. GOD I HATE ESPN.

The statement about Cruz playing the slot and the “big boys play outside”.

Then Skip said Roddy talks trash week after week after week and chokes.

“Tell him to keep talking. He had 52 yards in a playoff game last year. Shhhh Shhh. Let them keep talking. Say something on Monday” – Stephen A

Did Roddy White repeat these comments or is First Take desperate for a topic?

Roddy has proven himself time after time over the years. Julio is not much more than a real good rookie who shows a lot of promise in the future. I vote Roddy and Julio by a very very thin margin.

I dont care who the best tandem is. Can we convert third downs and stop dropping easy catches? Or how about making sure your feet are in bounds. All of this chatter means nothing if they go out there and lay down on Sunday. Thats what they get for looking past the Panthers. You cant look past ANY team on ANY given Sunday….or…Thursday….LOL

I know that this is an AJC article, so of course Falcons will get the love. And in this case, it is 100% accurate. Cruz and Nicks are both very talented receivers, but Eli has been slipping which takes down their value. Of course, Roddy should give some respect to Cruz, he has emerged from nobody to top-10 in one year. Still, with Roddy and Julio getting the targets from Matty Ice, it’s hard to find any pair who beats that.

Oh yeah, and Roddy had better be right about Cruz. I’m sitting him because I wouldn’t be able to enjoy Cruz’s sauca while I’m at the game(Hopefully Asante and Moore shut him down). Starting Roddy of course, so hope he backs up his comments. RISE UP DIRTY BIRDS!!!

Regardless of who has rings, White and Jones are better recievers then Nicks/Cruz. Jones and White CANT win a superbowl ring off of their talent alone, its a team effort. Last year the Giants had a better TEAM then the falcons, which is why they won. Roddy White has proven himself year in and year out, Julio has the athleticism, SPEED and hands that could possibly make him one of the best recievers of all time with a few more years of experience. I can almost guarantee you ANY NFL coach would chose Roddy White/Julio Jones over Nicks/Cruz. And that is NOT to say nicks/cruz arent good, because they ARE but White/Jones are the best DUO

Wait a second, the last time we faced the Giants, did Nicks or Cruz catch any TDs? How many TDs did any of our receivers catch then? Oh yes, now I remember! Bryant better be ready, he’s going to be trying for a bunch of 40+ yards FGs.

you loser falcon fans must be retarded. You fools let the media tell you yards are the most important. i guess the fact 2 more catches and 150 yards is better than the four more TDs that Dez an Austin have. GET REAL!! I guess when you have never won anything….you wouldnt really know. Kinda explains why Dallas has 5 rings and you losers have none.

Really….Romo has better numbers this year and has had better numbers than Ryan since he came into the league. Right now Romo an Ryan have the same number almost…with Romo leading by a small margin. Yet this is considered an MVP type season for Ryan and they are trying to crap on Romo. Shows who really is the best. Stop with the media BS….Ryan is not better than either of these QBs….get real!!

These Falcons Receivers are good, and Ryan has more weapons than every team out there. But there’s two things holding these Falcon back — Mainly a QB who extends plays (The Giants have one & so does NO) & the other, are plays designed to extend the field. These are 2 BIG changes you gotta make if you wanna get to the top, a new offensive coordinator and a qb who can move…Too bad Tony is never gonna see this, but you can’t talk bad in ATLanta about the wimpy golden boy wearing number 2

Atlanta has some good receivers , its the running backs that is not worth a fart. The quartrbac Ryan is worth a half of fart. The line wouldn’t block for Jesus. But I support them, oone of these days a winner will come to Ga.(Atlanta), might not be in your life time.
