FLOWERY BRANCH–Excerpts from Carolina quarterback Cam Newton’s conference call with Atlanta reporters.

Q. Falcons guys have noticed you seem more comfortable the last few weeks and the numbers have come as well. Any explanation as to why it’s been better?

A. No. As far as statistically I could really care less as far as how it’s been going. We play this game for one reason. We are looking forward to playing this game. It’s a division game and we just want to get back in the swing of things.

Q. Last year you spoke out about all you care about is winning. They haven’t come. How are you handling it?

A. Nothing has really changed as far as I look at playing football games. We all play to win football games. It’s kind of frustrating when you don’t win but we still have to look forward to continue to get better.

Q. I think you made a comment that wearing emotions on your sleeve is not necessarily a good thing. Have you been able to control that a little bit more?

A. No, I really didn’t say that. But as far as emotions coming with this game, that’s going to happen. Just like your job and anybody else’s job, if they don’t have a good day at work obviously you will know about it. This is nothing different. Playing football, there is a lot of emotions. Of course every game everybody would like to win. But when it doesn’t happen, what do you do? We have still got to focus on making individual goals that’s going to keep us getting better.

Q. Last time you rushed for 199 yards against the Falcons. Do you think it will be difficult to duplicate that? Will it be hard to have as good of a running game as last time?

A. I’m not sure. I don’t think it will be any problem. We’ve got guys that are hungry to play this game. If we go out and execute then it will be a good day at the office.

CMGd Single Player – AJC

Q. There’s a lot of scrutiny about post-game stuff with you as far as how long you are in your locker, how long takes to get to bus. Does it wear on you at all?

A. There’s a lot of things that wear on me. But it’s the life I live and I’m going to continue to live it and have fun playing the game I love.

Q. Is it still as much fun as it’s supposed to be?

A. Yes, sir. Absolutely.

I have tried to give Cam Newton the benefit of the doubt and I still don’t like what I see and hear about him. It is sad!

He’s Vince Young part II. Wait a few years and the Panthers will be drafting another QB to replace him.

Such lovely people reside on the AJC blogs.

Except for the fact that he’s a 100 times better than Young ever was.

Questions to Matt Ryan….

How many interceptions will you throw this week?

How many more games will it take before the defense doesn’t have to bail the offense out?

Will this be your fourth year in a row to lose in the first round of the playoffs?

“Falcons should rest a few guys this week if they leading at halftime by two touchdowns to get ready got the G-Men”

It took a hail mary pass in the final minute of the 4th quarter to beat the Panthers last time. If you think the Falcons will be up by two touchdowns at the half, you are a truly stupid person.

The Giants will beat the Falcons by three touchdowns.

The problem I gots with Cameron is that he does not act like a professional ball player when the Mic is in his face. He OK on the field and a pretty good ball player. I just don’t think he should be the spokesperson for the team.

100% correct Falcon James — if Carolina had beat writers like DLed, to teach players how to interview i.e., like DLed has nurtured “teaching process” players like Spoon and others along the way….

Or maybe the Carolina beat writers have tried, when you have a prime-dona’s like the VY’s, Cam Newtons and others in the past, that’s the way they workout. Instead being called a “Professional National Football League” players — those always float to the top and become NFL “Not For Long” so-called players!!!!!

Cam has been a big winner in the football arena most of his life. I’m sure it must be very difficult for him to accept the losing season he and his team are having. I suspect he will adjust to the equity of the NFL and learn to control his emotions and to play consistently in spite of what is going on around him. The issue for him, as with all running quarterbacks is: Will he stay healthy enough to play with all those collisions? The three year life of a running back is not so good for QBs in the NFL. If his coaches continue to work with him as the RGIII coaches are doing, he may be great. We see a lot of energy and a lot of hustle from him regardless of the score.

If I recall, in the last outing, we were fortunate he fumbled the ball trying to get extra yards late in the game. Had he hung onto it, it likely would have resulted in a loss for us. It is hard to predict this division matchup. The Panthers defense can be formidable and if the offense has an upswing, it will be a dog fight. Objectively, I feel the Panthers (not Cam Newton) have deteriorated a bit since that game and the Falcons have continued to improve in several areas of the game. The odds favor our Falcons but it may be another nail biter. Like all of us, I would like to see our Falcons dominate in this game but that doesn’t really happen too often in the NFL because all these teams are pretty good. I expect that our Falcons are working hard to elevate their game even more. I can’t wait to see! GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

Before Matt Ryan even took a snap, his nickname was in place. Stats lie. Ryan has great stats, but has not won a game of significance. Maybe that is where all this frustration is based, and people are aiming it at Cam Newton? I would love to see the NFC number seed get kicked on their butt.
