FLOWERY BRANCH — With Sean Weatherspoon out for the past three games, defensive end Kroy Biermann was the emergency linebacker.
“We only had four active linebackers on our roster,” Smith said. “Two injuries would have put us in a position where Kroy Biermann would have had to play linebacker in an emergency situation.”
Biermann is playing a hybrid position. He’s more of a traditional defensive end in the 4-3 defense. When the Falcons use the 3-4 or 3-3-5 alignments, he’s more of an outside linebacker.
“We ask him to rush the passer,” Smith said. “We ask him to cover backs. We ask him to cover tight ends. We ask him to close the middle of the field. You just don’t know where he’s going to be.”

Quoting SuxThisBZero writing about his beloved Caints:
“Well, they have pretty much guaranteed themselves to get a middle of the pack draft pick, they might as well go for it. They virtually do have to run the table though to secure the #6 seed, but at least they control their own destiny at this point in time.

Control their own destiny?? Yeah, sure.

It has been fun watching Bierman play. He certainly has been versatile and his motor is stuck on HIGH speed. Having such a versatile player has really helped to mask injuries and disrupt offenses. Not only is he in high gear, he seems to be doing the right thing all the time too. Way to go Kroy! GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

Nice to have such a versatile player on the roster. I, for one, am very pleased by his attitude. He seems to be the type that says, “Put me where you want to coach, and I’ll give you my all.” Refreshing to see that nowadays. I wish more of our players had the apparent desire to succeed as Kroy does. Maybe Spoon will be back this week and will be able to compliment Kroy’s good play.
All that said, we must have a better performance against the Bucs in order to win.
Go Falcons!
