Atlanta Falcons: Injury report after 23-19 win over Cardinals

CMGd Single Player – AJC

Falcons wide receiver receiver Julio Jones, who left the game in the fourth quarter after aggravating his right ankle injury, finished with three catches for 33 yards.

Jones injured his right ankle early against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday and missed 28 offensive snaps.

Jones didn’t practice all week. Before the game, he ran eight routes under the watchful eye of receivers coach Terry Robiskie.

“Julio, we felt was ready to be able to contribute,” Smith said. “Although, albeit, it wasn’t going to be at his normal volume of plays.”

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (right ankle) missed his third straight game.

“Spoon we did not feel was ready to go,” Smith said. “We’ll get a better idea if he’s going to be ready to go next week. He’s worked his tail off to get back.”

Injury report: Cornerback Asante Samuel left the game with a right shoulder injury in the first quarter. He returned, but couldn’t finish the game.

Center Todd McClure left the game with an injury for one play. Joe Hawley took the one snap.

Defensive tackle Peria Jerry suffered a thigh injury in the fourth quarter.

Etc: White has eight catches for 123 yards, his 33rd career 100-yard game and his fifth this season… . Dominique Franks’ 28-yard punt return in the third quarter was the longest of the season. “The guys on the outside picked up blocks and gave me a chance to get started,” Franks said. …Cornerback Robert McClain led the Falcons in tackles with seven. … Kicker Matt Bryant made all three of his field goal attempts, including kicks from 51, 48, and 28 yards. On the season, Bryant has made 25 of 28 field goals, including eight in a row.

I’d rest Julio and Spoon this week.

I’m confused with Weatherspoon…is there something more to this injury? I thought it was just a low ankle sprain?

guys have faith in coaching staff the team is playing vannilla offense and defense because were playing some hard nose teams in our next schedules coming up they just don’t want to give our opponents anything to watch on film that we are gonna use against them. Have faith, believe and Rise up!

As much as I would like to see Spoon back on the field, he is going to be more valuable when we make the playoff run. We saw it today with Julio. If the guys come back to soon, it is relatively easy to re-injure themselves. Wins are important, especially within the conference, but we can’t afford for the injuries to nag the players for the rest of the season. We are getting pretty banged up right now in key positions and the backups need to step up to the plate.

We should have rested JJ. He didn’t catch as many Matt Ryan passes as the Cardinals did. Alot of these are not Matt’s fault (bouncing balls) but he does have a tendency to throw to the receivers back shoulder.
Another win, FIVE winning seasons in a row. on the good side. Next year’s draft. 1st 350 lb NT, 2nd MLB, 3rd TE with basketball background. Putting myself out on a limb here.

PS – Why would a low ankle sprain take 3 weeks to completely heal???

Don’t you mean White “had” eight catches……………….

Again….It’s your job. Do it right.

Sham Newton,

if you are dumb enough to believe that then you obviously weren’t watching the Falcons get trounced in their last 3 playoff performances. You “dumb” down the playbook when you have backups in or when you rest starters because playoff seeding is decided. You don’t play vanilla against a weak team like the Cardinals when you are getting your butts handed to you for most of the afternoon.
