Falcons quoteboard after win over Cardinals

“We’ll take it. Obviously it was not [in] the fashion we wanted it to be, not by any means. That was sloppy. We were fortunate, lets put it that way. We were fortunate to come out with the win because, statistically, we aren’t supposed to win that game.”

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez

“You can’t worry about it. Part of playing this position in this league is knowing there are going to be times when you make mistakes and fall flat on your face and you have to get up and keep playing. In those kind of situations, I just worry about the next play.”

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on moving past his five interceptions

“We got off to a rough start. It took us a long time to get started. It was just one of those games. It didn’t look good, we didn’t do a lot of good things, but when we needed some good things we did some good things and found a way to win.”

“We have to get ourselves ready to play. I felt like our energy wasn’t there in the pregame warmups. Those guys are a good football team. I don’t think we came in thinking we had to be on our ‘A’ game. That was part of it.”

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White

“We just started off flat on offense and sometimes that happens in the National Football League. I am so excited about our defense and the performance they had today. They were the main reason we won.”

Falcons running back Michael Turner.

“I probably could have got there a few more times if I was a little younger.”

Falcons defensive end John Abraham, who had two sacks, three quarterback hits and a forced fumble

“It was one of those plays that could have been a pass or fumble. It was right on that fine line.”

Falcons defensive end Kroy Biermann on teammate Jonathan Babineaux’s fumble recovery for a touchdown, a play that was confirmed on replay review

“I jogged over there and looked at the ref, I saw him still running. I figured that the play was still going. So I did my best to get it in.”

Babineaux on scoring after several players assumed the play was over

“You’ve got lots of people talking in your ear and it was my mistake. My guys bailed me out today. That’s what they did. I’ll learn from it and we won’t let it happen again, I can assure you that.”

Falcons coach Mike Smith on drawing a penalty for throwing his replay challenge flag when it was prohibited

“Getting benched is part of the game. It’s frustrating not to be able to be out there and fight for the rest of the game, but you can’t do anything about it.”

Cardinals quarterback John Skelton on being replaced by Ryan Lindley

“It’s disappointing. I had an opportunity late in the game to make a play and that is going to bother me for a while. When I look back on this game weeks from now I will see the missed opportunities.”

Does this game show that they are a subpar team for committing 6 turnovers, or does it show that they are a good team, because they were able to win, even after losing the ball 6 times?

That is a really dumb NFL rule, that Smith was penalize for.

The rule has been in place since March, whining about it is not going to change that fact…

Well the unsportsmanlike penalty happened, now Smith is better educated on the rule and it won’t happen again. I’m sure he’ll call himself out on it in the meeting.

As disappointed as I’ve been with the play the last 2 weeks in a row, they did win, and this is definitely a game they don’t win in the past. Apparently Julio being healthy and fast is the key to their whole offense.

THIS IS A MULTIMILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS. SMITH COACHES LIKE HE’S AT WALMART.
EVERYONE..EVERYONE,, HAS TALKED ABOUT THE INABILITY OF TURNER. NO MORE TURNER. ARE YOU IN DENIAL?
RYAN IS IN HIS 5TH YEAR. THIS GAME IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. HE’S GOT TO MATURE WAY BEYOND NOW OR BE GONE. HE NEEDS TO JUST SAY ” I” SCREWED UP, NOT “WE”.
I WAS OFF FROM THE GET GO. THE COACHES DIDN’T HAVE US READY TO PLAY MENTALLY BEFORE THE GAME OR AT KICKOFF. THE STAFF AND THE PLAYERS READ THEIR HYPE AND THINK THEY ARE ALL THAT. WELL READ THIS. YOU GUYS LOOK LIKE TOTAL UNADULTERATED CRAP. TOTAL AND COMPLETE.

Gee, TRAV, lay off the caffeine and take your finger off the shift key. The Falcons will be fine. Ryan had a bad day today, but get real! “mature now or be gone.” Sheesh!! He’s a front runner for MVP this year. Who would you prefer to play in his place, back-up Luke McCown? I’m impressed the Birds managed to pull this one out. Winning a game where your team made 6 turnovers is a rarity. I guess I see the glass half-full on this one.

Although I thought Ryan played terrible today, you can’t say that because he is in his 5th year that it is unacceptable. All one needs to do is go back to the Falcon-Bronco game earlier this season. Manning had a really bad day and he has been in the NFL twice as long as Ryan. The problem today was the Falcon were not up for the game. Ryan called it like it was. They were flat in the pre-game and did not bring they A-Game today. No big deal. I am much more concerned about he injuries. Peria Jerry is like a china doll. Not sure we can depend on him in the future. Now Asante is hurt. I hope not, but there may be something major with that injury. He was not right when he came back in. Julio is going to need 3 or 4 weeks to overcome that Ankle. We saw that with Turner a couple years ago with the high ankle sprain. Not for sure on this, but I think Abe looked hurt. He was slow getting up several times and was walking gingerly, and of course Spoon is still out. These guys are going to need some rest before we make the playoff run. I want to see the wins, but we are sitting pretty good in the division. I want the team at full strength for the playoffs and firing on all cylinders more so than I want to see them breaking there necks on teams that have no impact on the Home Field Advantage and First Week Bye Playoff standing.

when your qb must drop straight back -5step or three- your opposing team will more easily center upon him …did not see any misdirection plays and the screens that were attempted did not seem to be well thought out…the Falcons do not not show the aura –like the packers or Patriots —about being a winning team…I have know answer there …..coaching must come into play….also why are players obsessed with hotdogging composure when they make a good play…thats their job …act like it is what we do
Good luck Falcons

In this NFL era of brash receivers, it’s always refreshing to hear from a classy guy like Larry Fitzgerald. I’ve always liked his game, and save for a couple of years with Kurt Warner, has never had a QB that can consistently get him the ball. Fitz is a great player, but with this franchise and its sorry string of QBs we’ll never know how good he may have been.

Truth is this the Atlanta Falcons played a good defense in the Arizonia Cardinals. To lost to a team that has no quarterback would have been terrible. Matt Ryan has to look at film, because next couple games are going to be with teams are playing good defense. Atlanta Falcons are hurt and need to rest some players and see who they have on the roster that can step up. It is still a long season and you are going to have bad games. I just hope that the Atlanta Falcons work on there running game, run defense and Matt Ryan has to find someone to throw too until Julio is 100% we are going to need him in the Playoffs. If we can get one of the Defensive End to step up and help Abe out, they keep running on Biermann side. Tampa is no joke and they are winning with a great running attack, we just have get somethings clean up and make it out with a clean builded of health. GO FALCONS!!!!

How does anyone look at a game like this and find fault (other than the penalty) with Mike Smith??

Guy has over 50 wins in the regular season the last 4 years. Walmart? Nah, that’s where Arizona shops for QB’s and OT’s.

Your fault if you want to blame the personnel is with Thomas Dimitroff. The talent didn’t change much this off season, without Spoon and most of Julio the last 2 weeks we are seeing the deficiences in the talent that have been masked all year. We’ve got problems at linebacker, we need help getting to the QB, and the OL isn’t nearly physical enough, still they are good enough at least in the regular season to have winning seasons 5 years in a row.

The question is going to be whether or not they can close out this year strong, and win a Super Bowl or at least make it there.

There aren’t many teams that would have the skill and tenacity to hang in there in the face of such adversity (6 turnovers). EVERYONE hung in there including Matt Ryan himself and played hard to regain the lead. They never could have done it without great effort, calm, collected tactical adjustments and execution. These are the challenges that great teams overcome. Don’t expect Matt Ryan to throw 5 INTs anytime soom but DO expect this team to remember that guts, determination, and intelligence WILL make a difference. While capturing another WIN, we also gave tremendous on-field experience to Akeem Dent, Harry Douglass, Drew Davis and McClain. I expect that will come back to strenghthen us down the line. Way to hang in there Falcons! GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

WTF are you smoking? First of all you don’t fire a coach who has a team at 9-1. Second of all you don’t fire a coach who is behind 5 consecutive winning season’s of a team who didn’t have back to back winning seasons before his arrival. Thirdly you don’t fire a coach who has the team playing for him. My fourth and final point is, you are a moron because John Gruden is an offensive minded coach not defensive minded. That defense was all Monty Kiffin who by the way worked for the real genius of that team, TONY DUNGY….

That was the same Cardinals team that went to Foxboro and took down the Patriots in their back yard. That defense is no joke (with an extra week to prepare with a bye). Brady had an awful day against ‘em too, the difference is, these Falcons rose up and took the bull by the horns when they needed to (4th quarter winning drive). It was an absolute crazy Sunday across NFL Nation, not just in Hot-’Lanta. I roll my eyes when the media lights into Matt Ryan for havin’ a bad day, yet still leads his team to a victory, yet makes excuses for Brady (vs Arizona) and Manning (vs Atlanta) who have similar bad days (in defeats).
