Falcons defensive end Jonathan Babineaux learned that little league rule about playing until you hear the whistle.

After defensive end John Abraham sacked Arizona quarterback Ryan Lindley and knocked the ball loose, several players stood around because they thought it was an incomplete pass.

Abraham, on the key play in the 23-19 win over the Arizona Cardinals, went ballistic. He was screaming to his teammates to “pick up the (bleeping) ball.”

“When a ball goes forward, a lot of people stop running because they think it’s a knocked down pass or something,” Abraham said. “But I know I hit it before he threw. Dunta (Robinson) had a perfect shot. He could have caught it and gone right into the end zone… .

Babineaux hadn’t heard the whistle, but thought it was incomplete, too.

“I glanced at the ref and he just looked at me,” Babineaux said. “So, I knew it was a live ball.”

Lineabacker Stephen Nicholas was in coverage.

“Some guys were just standing around,” Nicholas said.

Babineaux picked up the ball and Abraham led him into the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown. Matt Bryant’s extra point made it 13-10.

With the offense struggling, the Falcons needed the touchdown to stay in the game.

“I felt like it was a slow-action play,” Babineaux said. “Some people didn’t know that the ball was still alive. I guess it was just a heads up play.”

Dunta Robinson doesn’t make plays. That’s why he didn’t catch that fumble and run it in. He also drops interceptions like he dropped that pick before the half that would have kept Arizona at 13 points instead of them kicking a field goal to make it 16-13. Robinson is a good hitter, that’s about it. He’d make a better safety or nickel corner and if Grimes was healthy he would be.

I would be terrified for Dunta to be a Safety on this team. Safeties need to make tackles. Dunta has the Superman wannabe flying shoulder tackle down pat. He has no clue how to wrap up somebody.

Not sure why there is so much Robinson hating in a blog aboout Babs head up play. Great play by Abe to knock it free and Babs running it in. Was at the game and the replay showed clearly it was a fumble.
We won! Stop hating on Robinson.

Watching the game in real time I was screaming for someone to pick up the ball!

Dunta was “too cool” and couldn’t be bothered to expend the energy to lean down and scoop up the football (or just fall on it). Instead, he showboated his way, empty handed, into the endzone.

Dunta needs a haircut and a new attitude…

I watched the game on
direct TV channel, and started cheering for Jonathan Babineaux to go straight to the end zone for a touchdown. Ok, Monster, make another.
