Atlanta Falcons: Julio Jones misses second day of practice; will be game time decision

FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, who suffered an ankle injury against the New Orleans Saints, did not practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said that Jones and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who worked out with the trainers would be game time decisions on Sunday.

“These guys are so close and moving in the right direction that we’ll make a determination as late as we possibly can,” Smith said. “We can do it as late as we possibly can. They are working to get back. We are hoping that they’ll continue to progress tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday morning.”

The Falcons have until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning to declare their final active roster.

Jones left the game with the Saints, but returned after missing 28 offensive snaps.

Weatherspoon, wide receiver Kevin Cone (groin) and safety Charles Mitchell (calf) worked out with the training staff.

“He is getting close,” Smith said. “He ramped up his work on the side today as well as Kevin Cone and Charles Mitchell.”

Defensive end John Abraham (back), linebacker Stephen Nicholas (groin), running back Michael Turner (groin) and defensive tackle Vance Walker (ribs) were all limited in practice.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (thigh), wide receiver Harry Douglas (ankle) linebacker Mike Peterson (foot) and tight end Tony Gonzalez (shoulder) fully participated in practice.

For Arizona, quarterback Kevin Kolb (ribs) and defensive end Calais Campbell (calf) did not practice Thursday.

Cornerback Jamell Fleming (back), tight end Todd Heap (knee), tight end Jeff King (knee), long snapper Mike Leach (back), guard Adam Snyder (quad) and cornerback Greg Toler (hamstring) were limited Thursday. Safety Kerry Rhodes (back) and guard Adam Snyder (quadriceps) fully participated in practice.

Snyder was the only change to Arizona’s injury report.

Put some Georgia red clay and vinegar on that ankle Julio.. That will definitely take the swelling and soreness out. If I was the trainer, Spoon would have never missed the saints game.

We can beat tha cards without jones and spoon dem two guys are very important for us in tha long run we shouldnt take any risk we gotta have dem guys in dec and jan @ 100% or as close to 100% as they can get

Red clay and vinegar would take the swelling and soreness right out of Julio and Spoon’s ankle. Tried and true home remedy.
I get nervous when Julio is not on the field. Our O.C. seems lost without him. Same for our DC in the absence of Spoon.

As much as it vexes me that Jones & Spoon might not play Sunday, we hv to get focused on the game & not two individuals. We still hv Roddy, Tony & Harry..Samuels & Quizzes…Oh yeah & Turner So we can’t let this be the game changer. Get out there & do what u get paid for & win this game. NO EXCUSES! GO FALCONS!

Falcons need to start their young upcoming players especially at RB I think Antone Smith will be able to get us up the field Rodgers on bootlegs & play action Snelling on short yardage &Turner power to slow the defense down hey I can be our offensive coordinator we’ll win regular season, postseason & the Super Bowl

Coach need to have faith in our players & utilize their talent rather Jones in or Toone it’s a team effort give all our roster a chance to shine if they don’t pick up with the pace of our offense they need to be replaced
