FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons receiver Roddy White believes the team has a chance to win all 16 of their games.
The Falcons are the league’s only undefeated team at 8-0 and they face only one team with a winning record.
“I’m hoping so,” White said when asked if the Falcons could go undefeated. “I think we have the pedigree to do it.”
White likes the makeup off the team.
“How we are on offense and defense and how we are as a team,” White said. “This locker room is very united right now. Every week, we expect to win. There is not a team that I felt like when we went into a ball game this year that we didn’t feel like we were going to win. I think we can (go undefeated.) We just still have to be consistent, don’t turn over the ball and get turnovers. That’s been the key to winning games all over the league this year. If we can continue to do that, we’ll be just fine.”
White apparently didn’t get the “one game at a time” memo from head coach Mike Smith’s office.
But White usually speaks his mind.
He tackled a few other subjects including his dislike for New Orleans, the rivalry with the Saints and how their fans party at “Club Superdome.”
Here’s some more Roddy unplugged:
ON THE RIVLARY: “I don’t know if it’s a rivalry because they’ve beat us like the last three of four times. You actually have to win for it to be a rivalry and we have not done that the last few times. Hopefully, we can get down there and get us a W this time.”
ON FACING THE SAINTS: “It’s just a special atmosphere when we play these guys. The game is so intense. We want to win. They want to win. They have won the division two out of the last three years. We won it the other year.
For the last couple of years, it’s been us and them down to the wire. I think that’s what it is and the dislike for each other.
“I don’t like nothing about the Saints. The colors. The city. Nothing. But they’ve got some good food though. Other than the food, nothing.”
ON THE SAINTS’ FANS: “At that stadium, it’s just that the people dress up in all kinds of costumes. They come out there partying like it’s a club or something. That’s the other thing I like, their fans really get into the game.”
ON SAINTS WANTING TO STOP THE FALCONS PERFECT SEASON: “This would make their whole entire months of November if they can mess up our record. We know that. You don’t have to get people up for this game in the locker room. We all know what this game is about. We all know that we have to out there and get after it.”
ON TRYING TO KNOCK THE SAINTS FARTHER BACK IN THE PLAYOFF RACE: (A win would give the Falcons a six-game lead with seven games to play.) “Absolutely, they are so good. They are such a good football team. They have some close loses and some games that they should have won. But you never want those guys to sneak in the playoffs. Especially with how explosive they are on offense. They are creating turnovers on defense and getting sacks and stuff. You don’t want them to sneak in and have to deal with those guys later on. If we can go down there and get us a win, we can kind of put them on the outside looking in.”

I wouldn’t mind us losing to Tampa…get this perfect season crap out of the players mind and give the a fresh loss to get them refocused on the Lombardi Trophy!!! Who cares about a perfect season? Does anyone remember New England or do you remember that the Giants took another trophy home?! We need/want our first Championship! All the haters can talk then!

An undefeated season is always a possibility but with so much parity in the NFL, it won’t be easy to accomplish. I just want the team to make the playoffs and to win their playoff games.

Roddy’s a good player, though he should stick to the one game at a time. Things always go array when people start talking, especially when 16-0 isn’t the goal. Winning another Super Bowl ranks much higher. It suits the team better to stay humble, let their game on the field do most of the talking, cause there’s still quite a few games left. And we haven’t done too well in the Playoffs. I’d think I’d zip it and stay low key. It’s probably better in the long run.

Roddy…how bout just saying that we’ll take one game at a time…a perfect season will be forgotten after the last play of the last game this season…but “the trophy” is another matter…I think a couple of losses will be enough to keep the team focused on playing one game at a time. Will someone please bring back the “dirty bird”…maybe calling it the “nasty bird” or “funky bird”…etc, etc!!!

Hey somebody (Mr. Blank, Coach Smith, Freddie Falcon)…how about announcing which color the birds will be wearing so we can really show our bird pride…red, black or white…I prefer a “RED OUT” since white is mainly worn on the road; a “BLACK OUT” would be good too. Come on man!!

Guys there is no such thing as a Jinx. These boys want a trophy and wont be satisfied til they get it. Arthur Blank ain’t playin. For one Roddys always talkin trash, I like that. Confident. He said they have to stay consistent so its not like theyre taking anything for granted. Hes just not going to say that we will lose. Why would he say no were gonna lose a couple. Remember this ain’t Jerry Jones team…..its Mike Smith who is in complete control of this team. Im glad he said it to be honest. Never heard him say it before, so he obviously believes in his team.

The only problem I have with these comments is how much attention ESPN will pay towards them. Roddy really didnt say anything that bad and its going to be made out as if he predicted us to win every game 50-0 the rest of the way.

Watxch it, Roddy, pride comes before a fall, no matter how prepared one thinks they are.
All it takes to lose in this parity-driven NFL is one team wanting it more badly than the other, despite a small edge in talent.Takes a real mental discipline and a lot of lucky breaks to go undefeated, that’s why so few have done it.
Like Belechick’s treatment of team after a win; Never allows for things like this to be thought publicly or at practice. Sort of the same approach Vince Lombardi’s treatment of Packers despite all their success. Packer’s HOF guard Jerry Kramer: “Coach Lombardi treats us all alike, like dogs.”

It looked like Dallas through everything but the kitchen sink at ATL last weekend. ATL is showing more grit this year, especially along both lines. If they can play consistent with that kind of intensity they could finish the season undefeated. Ryan, Jones and White are clutch players.

Love the moniker..HIndu Elvis Pimp….love the imitation..it is flattering..but it is not me.. I am the original ELVIS..my take is we are soft in the center of our defense. Watch the quick screens. And Dunta..get a haircut..maybe you’ll get a step on the opponent.
Love the fact of trying to get the PICK 6, but New Orleans knows this and will fake the short route and burn us with the long pass down the sideline.
Falcons have to rise up big time for this game..Focus on the game , not on being on Sportscenter..
Loyal fan and I call the score…even..or plus three for the New Orleans at home.
This will be a true test for the “Angry Birds”..
