Postgame comments from the Falcons’ locker room

CMGd Single Player – AJC

“Different games are going to take on different dynamics and we knew that we had to run the football. Believe it or not, even though the statistics don’t show it, in the first half, we felt like we were very close. We knew if we could get it to the second level, our wide receivers were doing a great job blocking downfield. We just weren’t as efficient as we needed to be in the first half, but we knew we needed to continue to keep running the football. It paid dividends for us there in that half.”

–Falcons coach Mike Smith on sticking with the running game.

“Anyway you can find a way to win is a positive in this league. I think that is a very good football team we played against tonight and a very good defense. We had some opportunities and sure we need to clean some things up and try and improve in some areas, but at the end of the day it’s about finding ways to win and I think our team did a good job with that tonight.”

–Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan on offensive production, but lack of touchdowns.

“This was a great win for our football team. Though it was a slug-fest in the first half, we made soem big plays in the end to seal the victory. I was fortunate enough to get opportunities to catch the ball and help the offense put some points on the board. It was total team win.”

–Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones

“No matter what, there is always going to be doubters. It doesn’t matter. As long as we believe in this locker room that’s all that matters.”

–Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers on doubters

“We have to go down to New Orleans and we know what time it is down there. Every week it is going to get tougher, but we’ve got a team that can rise to the occasion.”

–Falcons safety William Moore on New Orleans

“Me personally, I don’t really care if they notice or not. I’m a person who has been fighting for respect my whole life. It don’t really matter to me if we get the respect or not as long as we get where we need to get and do what we need to do, I’m happy.”

–Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel on respect

“We’ve got veteran leadership over here. It’s how we approach the game every day. We practice hard, we play hard. We want to win. We want to make the city proud. It means a lot to us.

“We step on the practice field as a champion. That’s what we believe in our hearts: we are champions. And we play with confidence and swag and that’s what I think it’s about. We have got a good team with a bunch of explosive players on defense and offense.”

–Samuel on leadership

“To come this far it speaks volumes of how I come to work every day and how I prepare myself to get ready to play football games.”

–Falcons wide receiver Roddy White on becoming the team’s all-time receptions leader

“We were trying to chip them and do everything we could to keep them off of Matt. Somehow, they kept getting in clean. They did a good job mixing up their defensive fronts, too. They caught us in some bad looks there.”

–Falcons running back Michael Turner on protecting Matt Ryan

Happy to be 8-0 but man we have to start tackling better and quit giving up sacks and explosive plays. Need to shore up that run defense too!

Way to go Angry Birds! Way to make adjustments in the 2nd half on defense “Nolan”. You can tell that Sports Announcer Cris Collinsworth was rooting for the Cowboys. It was never about what the Falcons were doing but about what the Cowboys needed to do to win the game. 8 & 0 baby! Cris need to pay up the bets that he lost

No doubt the defense could have played better, but you can’t complain about a defense that only gives up 65 yards rushing and 13 points.

The biggest break we got the whole night was when Ryan was still alive and walking after some balloon head forgot to block the premier pass rusher in the entire league and he blindsided poor Mattie at full speed! Don’t know who missed that assignment but that just CANNOT happen again if we expect to enter the playoffs with any chance of advancing! When they broke the huddle you would think someone would have said: “Ok, who’s got Ware?” Inexcusable!

I usually just read but...

I did not understand Dent leaving the middle so open so many plays. It definately looked to be by design but It didn’t make sense to me.

AWESOME GAME o line!!!!! Yes, we have our doubters, but all week long I was worried what would happen if we had to play smash mouth football, and MAN!!! did we rise up to the occasion!!! Got really sticky ther in the 4th, as usual this season, and I could hardly watch those 3rd down conversion late in the 4 th qtr. much less actually throw a laser with the football, Matty Ice! I personally liked the way Bosher got pumped for the SNAP for the field goal after the first miss…what a total team win, and a truly enjoyable win!

Nice win. 8-0 with a pretty weak OL. If they can find a way to get it together, the rest of this team is solid. We missed you Spoon!!

Great win. One question though, if Asante does not care if he gets respect, why has he been fighting for it his whole life?

Secondary tighten up, no on should get to Ryan, so line improve on your blocking and prove to the other doubter that this is no fluke. Wtaht we cannot win it all. Remember last year!

Cant complain much about our d, the tackling was bad but most of the passing yards were given up at the very end of the game i think romo was like 45 percent completing in the first half good play by our defense robinson needs to stay disciplined he cost us a turnover other than that the run defense was great our recieving core proved once again that they cant all be covered and julio and roddy are both beasts, oh and almost forgot quizz dude that leg breaker juke off the screen was awsome, that dude didnt know where you went to, gotta love quizz.

@proff jess; the o line wasnt bad actually, that sack on ryan was because there was an extra defender that wasnt accounted for, quizz was there he shoulda hit ware and blocked but he instead ran right by him on a little screen route but id have to blame that on quizz for not pickin up the block

Need the D to be in top shape come Sunday. I saw what happened when Brees was under pressure, he just caved. Fortunately, Falcons have better passing, receiving, blocking, pass defense, run defense, and playmakers than the Eagles. No. 32 Defense, here we come. Who Dat? 9-0 calling.

Realfalconfan are you serious???? Our defense does not have the numbers but we are playing very well. We have to first give our organization credit for the hiring of Mike Nolan. Then we have to give a great deal of credit to Mike Nolan and for coming into a established organization and quickly being adapting and becoming part of the family and intstalling his masterful scheme. The defense has kept us in games when we are struggling on offense and the defense has won us a few games. The defense is a big part of why we are 8 and 0. Rise Up Atlanta!!!!
