FLOWERY BRANCH–Falcons coach Mike Smith said starting defensive tackle Peria Jerry did not suffer any structural damage to his knee Sunday against the Cowboys and is hopeful Jerry will be able to practice this week in preparation for Sunday’s game at New Orleans.
Jerry left in the second quarter of Atlanta’s 19-13 victory over the Cowboys. Smith said Jerry has swelling in the knee but no ligament or cartilage damage.
“He had a study done on it today,” Smith said. “We are anticipating he should be out with us by the end of the week. It’s not anything like [Jerry's] knee injury of two years ago. We are hoping to get him a few days rest and let him get a lot of rest and he will be back out with us.”
Jerry suffered a season-ending knee injury in September 2009.
Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon missed the Cowboys game with an ankle injury. Smith said there’s a possibility Weatherspoon will be a game-time decision but hopes he will be able to practice this week.
“This is his eighth day of intensive treatment,” Smith said. “He progressed well through the first week. We will have to wait and see. We will know where he’s at Wednesday or Thursday.

First of all grea news…
Observation: Every week I go to the other team’s Blog and see nothing but praises for the Franchise we are building. But when I come here it’s doom gloom after a win. It’s a team sport and right now our team is playing the best “TEAM FOOTBALL”

This is nothing like the Falcons under Marion Cambell, Dan Henning, Jerry Glanville et al that is for sure.
We are the envy of the NFL right now.
Matt Ryan is a true leader and, when it is all said and done, will re-write the Falcons record books.
GO FALCONS!

We need Peria healthy with Doug Martin coming twice in the second half. Rotating Peters, Jerry, and Walker (maybe a bit of Travian) at tackles, then Babineaux at one end opposite Abraham (with Bierman subbing for both) works on the line. Ah Ray Edwards, fight for your spot man!

CDOG, Peters hasn’t played all year and is still in the process of getting himself football ready, wake up and give it time, he was the 2nd best tackle on the team last year when he was healthy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In last night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, it was announced after halftime that Peria Jerry would not be returning to the game, due to injury. I literally watched the Cowboys rush four running plays, back-to-back, to the hole that was vacant by Perry. The running plays went for 15, 6, 18 and 3 yards, respectively. The Cowboys took full advantage of the void that Perry left and we had no immediate answer for it (Peters is just not healthy enough to take on a starting role on the line). Cowboys’ coaching staff did not stick with this adjustment. If they would’ve continued to run up the gut, to Peter/Walker’s side, the final score may have been different. Still, we adjusted but something soon has to be done soon to stop the runs that opposing teams are attacking us with.

The defensive line needs an overhaul. Perry, Ray Edwards, Lawrence Sidbury, and’ Tavian Robertson aren’t producing. Get rid of them and bring in a new group.

Dled,
Next time you in Flowery Branch tell the training staff to get some Georgia red clay and white vinegar. Make a mud with it, pack it in an ace bandage and wrap Spoon’s ankle overnight. It is guaranteed to take out the swelling and soreness. Same for Jerry’s knee.

I LOVED the D last night. Offense put up lots of yards but bogged down in the red zone too often. Sounds like Spoon might miss the Aints game. Too bad. RISE UP!

Any 3rd or 4th string player can fill in and improve over what Peria Jerry has done which is absolutely nothing. We could of had Clay Mathews pro bowler and sack leader instead of TD selecting Jerry so what a bust. Did anyone watch him side stepping and going backwards to avoid contact most of the night? What a joke.

How is Perry playing this year? I’d like to know that and I think I’m seeing a trend of the Birds using some depth in a lot of situations. That speaks well of the team. Who is coming off the bench and making a positive impression?

I am watching the game from Sunday, I hope Falcons have reviewed!!!! In many areas this was a real sloppy game. Either Dallas defense was really really good because they did a great job of disrupting our offense early on. I am sure other teams are looking at this.
