FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon suffered a low right ankle sprain against Philadelphia in the fourth quarter and his status for the Dallas game will be updated after practice on Wednesday, according to head coach Mike Smith.

Weatherspoon was at the facilities on Monday to receive treatment from the training staff. He was injured will trying to make a tackle on Eagles running back LeSean McCoy with  9:03 left in the fourth quarter.

“He did not return (to the game),” Smith said on Monday. “Sean is in the training room and we’ll have a more concrete idea of where he’s at after practice (on Wednesday). But he did sustain an ankle injury in the ball game.”

Weatherspoon was taken off the field on a cart as a precautionary measure. He was in good spirits in the locker room after the game and didn’t have a boot or crutches at his stall.

Linebacker Akeem Dent picked up Weatherspoon’s snaps.

In his four-plus years as the head coach, Smith makes the announcement when a player suffers a severe injury. When it’s not severe, he releases the information in the first weekly league-mandate injury report, which comes out on Wednesday.

“Kevin Cone also sustained an injury in the ball game as well,” Smith said. “We’ll have an update on Harry Douglas and those guys on Wednesday after practice.”

Havnt been able to completely enjoy the win because of Spoon’s injury. Thank goodness it’s a low ankle sprain instead of the high ankle variety that takes much longer to heal

Really?

The cart is always a scary sight but Spoon seemed to be in good spirits and talking smack so I was optimistic. Where is that jerk phil? He was wishing for a high ankle sprain and lost for the season. I REALLY don’t like that jerk.

This is very good news. Knowing the Falcons they will sit him this week, but leave it in question all week long.

you kind of have to address it when your defensive leader is carted off. Low ankle is not as bad as the dreaded high ankle. He may be out a couple of weeks, he didn’t look distraught when he was going off though.

Spoon!!! Sean Weatherspoon has been our defensive MVP. No need to rush him back, because we’re gonna need Spoon if we want to get to the Superbowl. Get him healthy because this guy is smart, fast, and plays with a ton of energy… he’s a difference-maker.

Wow, that is the best possible news. At first I was worried about achilles, then high ankle, and it ends up being the best possible outcome. We could not afford to lose this guy.

Way to go Spoon! He had a great game going and always makes a big difference. I hope he can take his time and let it heal. This is a rough sport and dings happen. He’ll be back when he is ready and that is nice to think about. GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

Thanks to rising up to be unbeaten at this point, we can afford to let Mr. Spoon heal this week and so that we’ll have him at full speed when time to run down Mr. Brees when taking off on runs like Mr. RGIII tried to do.

Thank God that it’s not a major injury. However, Dallas along w/ the rest of the league is not to be underestimated. Just look at Oakland, they came here and almost stole a win a couple of weeks ago. Dallas has owned us for quite some time now, and the last thing we want to do is be their victims. Everyone relax and enjoy this record breaking season for Atlanta. I hope we win the big one this year, and we have a shot, but nothing is guaranteed! Take no one for granted!!!

Spoon, you da man. We always count on you. But now, you need to take the week off. We can handle the cowgirls in our house. (If we can’t, I’ll be decidedly embarrassed.) We need you at full steam (that’s angry steam) in NOLA. Hugs.

If it were a high ankle sprain I’d be really concerned, but he has all week to rehab so he shoulld be ready to go come sunday, if not Dent should be the next man up.

the Falcons will no doubt win the NFC South and possibly go 15-1 or 16-0. This is the year for the SB ring. They are clearly the best team in the NFL.

I sprained my ankle the Friday before Memorial Day. Granted, I’m 30 years older than Spoon and don’t have the med staff he has, but every time I think it’s good to go I’ll run a sprint (I’m in pretty decent shape for an old guy. Stretch, stretch, and stretch. It works.) and find out it’s not good to go. I hope he doesn’t push it or come playoff time he won’t be full speed.

The Cowpokes are poorly coached. The Falcons should gut this one out. Force them to play OUR game, in the Dome, and take care of business.

TO: DC – Coach Mike Nolan —- among the “to do list” this Sunday night it would be advisable to pay close attention to this link of status: etwork.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/cowboys_waiting_on_murray_not_concerned_about_bryant/12089947

“Tackle Three” —- will most assuredly handle Felix Jones if he plays —- but DeMarko Murray watch-out. If this “Big Cat”, he’s able to play —- this cat can tote the rock “Big Time”! How the Falcons personnel brain trust passed on this guy in the draft is mind boggling.
