Matt Ryan turns in stellar performance against the Eagles

CMGd Single Player – AJC

PHILADELPHIA — Here are some notes on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who directed the Falcons to scores — three touchdowns and three field goals — on their first six drives against the Eagles on Sunday.

  • The Falcons opened the game with a 16-play, 80-yard drive that spanned 8:43 on the game clock. Ryan passed to wide receiver Drew Davis for a 15-yard touchdown for his first career touchdown reception.
  • Ryan has thrown at least one touchdown in 22 straight games, which is the third-longest active streak in the NFL behind QB Drew Brees (49) and QB Tom Brady (40). He has now thrown at least one touchdown in 37 of his last 39 games.
  • Ryan tossed his second touchdown pass of the day on Atlanta’s second possession, hitting running back Jason Snelling for a three-yard score. Ryan has posted six multi-touchdown games this season and the Falcons are 29-5 during his career when he throws two-or-more touchdowns.
  • Ryan passed to wide receiver Julio Jones for a 63-yard touchdown for his third touchdown pass of the day and his longest scoring pass of the season.
  • Ryan got the Falcons offense off to a fast start as he completed 17 of 20 pass attempts for 197 yards with three touchdowns and a 147.3 passer rating in the first half.
  • Ryan finished the day completing 22 of 29 passes for 262 yards (75.9 percent) with three touchdowns, no interceptions and a season-best 137.4 quarterback rating. The Eagles game marked the 15th time that Ryan has thrown for three-or-more touchdowns. Atlanta owns a 15-0 record when he accomplishes that feat, including a 4-0 mark this season.
  • Ryan’s 137.4 passer rating was his highest of the season and the third highest of his career. The Falcons are 28-0 when his quarterback rating is above 100, including five wins in 2012.

Impressed with today’s victory against the Eagles, in Philly no less.

Great offensive play calling, and our defense works as a unit.

Matt Ryan looking great! With the new coordinator and Ryan peaking, maybe he blossoms into a champion.

Fun stuff. We whip the Cowboys next week.

Let me just say that the Falcon are the best team in the NFL, and the Saint, well, let’s just they in the NFL. The next best thing to a Falcon win, is the Saint getting routed!!!

After all these years of listening to Kincaide on 680 the Fan talk about the Eagles and Andy Reid outclassing the Falcons, it is extremely satisfying to know that this game against the Falcons and a Philly kid himself, Matt Ryan, will be looked upon as the undoing of the Reid regime.

We all remember Reid taunting the Falcons by putting Viceroy Ichiban Cooter Kooter in the game the Falcons had already lost at the Dome. Payback is a bitch ain’t it Coach Reid.

Great coverage DLed, hope you and Schultz got home safe.

This was a deeply satsifying game on so many levels. We struck early and often, taking the wind out of their sails completely. We hit hard and tackled well. Smitty and his staff outcoached Andy Reid and his staff.

And not only did we do well, but we did SO well that we made all of America, from Philadelphia on out, question where the Eagles are as a franchise. We beat them so badly that their own fans turned on them. We made them want to bench their QB and fire their coach. Yeah, they may have been grumbling about it before, but this game put them over the edge.

And the most hilarious thing to me was that none of the pundits did a mea culpa. None of them that I heard, anyway. This was supposed to be a big test, but instead of admitting the Falcons were really good, all they talked about was how low the Eagles have sunk.

Well, if bringing the most overrated franchise in NFL history to its knees is a bonus for winning on Sunday, I’ll take it. The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl, and they’re getting further away, while we are getting closer. But they’re in the rear-view mirror now. I’m very curious to see if we can pay back the Cowboys for manhandling us in ‘09. This wil be our toughest test yet.

I can see it now, though—we beat them, and it’s the Eagles all over again. No talk about us, just about what went wrong with the Cowboys. Oh well. I will admit that no one is going to take us seriously until we go deep in the playoffs, but I’m still going to enjoy the ride.

I usually just read but...

Ryan is the smartest QB in the league. He gets better each game at picking a defense apart. Our D not too shabby either.

That 28-0 mark when he is above 100.0 is phenomenal. Aside from–maybe–Aaron Rodgers, what quarterback in the NFL would the Falcons trade Ryan for? RG3? I gotta say nobody.

I think it’s completely safe to put the noodle arm comment away in regard to Ryan. He can throw it deep when we need him to. Look forward to next week. DAL will be mad but we do very well at home. National stage for this one. Let’s go out and show them monday night of week 2 wasnt a fluke!! 7-0 looks real good.

Anybody wearing a #7 jersey in the Dome Sunday should be embarrassed. He looked terrible yesterday and basically asked to be benched after the game. Once a very exciting member of our team but lacked true leadership then and now. MR2 looks like the league MVP thus far!

I say this will all sincerity: I could absolutely care less if ESPN EVER talks about us. Seriously, who cares? As a Falcon fan, I feel like we have gotten the respect we deserve. I feel like the guys on Sunday Night football have been pretty generous in their accolades of Matt Ryan and company. The fellas on NFL Countdown haven’t, but I can’t say I totally blame them for their reticence either. I mean we have completely crapped the bed in our last two playoff games, and won’t get the respect we deserve until we change that. For now, let’s be pleased about being 7-0, but at the same time hungry enough to want to improve. Winning the Super Bowl is beyond our wildest dreams, so lets keep it there for now.

Matty Ice is blooming behind an O-Line that gives him a few seconds to do his magic. He has the arm to air it out; he just hasn’t had time to let receivers get downfield. All that has changed. I LOVE the fact that fantasy analysts are saying to start Ryan above all other NFL quarterbacks except for Breeze and Brady… He is movin’ on up! Great game Matt! All that work and learning is paying off big time! GO FALCONS! YOU ARE RISING UP!

Love Matt’s play this year. We did however dodge a serious bullet in the first series when we almost had an INT on first series. Matt regrouped after that errant throw to turn a fine performance. Could have been a very bad start instead of the great start we got. Just shows how small the margin for error is. And illustrates why we are rolling and should enjoy this roll. We’re a pretty darn good team having a pretty good year.

Yeah, dan, I have my resources so I get most of the Falcon news I need, but I have the NFL Network and like watching it.It’s stunning how much time is spent talking about the Colts, Broncos, Panthers, Vikings, NFC East, NFC West and AFC North teams… or at least some of their players. It’s ad nauseum.

Ehhh, The Falcons aren’t the only good team that gets overlooked. Still guess no coverage is better than the backhanded coverage they usually get on the pre-game shows.

October 29th, 2012
8:30 pm

Here’s reason #1 for not taking Brady, Peyton Manning, Rodgers or Breese over Matty Ice: He’s younger than all of them by many years! Eli may have the rings, but his D has been significantly better than Atlanta’s until this year! Same for Flacco, and he is regressing!
After suffering for all 42 years I’ve lived in the A-T-L, it’s just unreal to have a QB with such poise, smarts and command on the field!
