Falcons’ quotes after the 30-17 win over the Eagles

“I felt like we tackled much better. It was an emphasis point. … Tackling and pursuit angles were something that we identified that we had to get better at. I think they did a very nice job.”

—Falcons coach Mike Smith on the defense’s tackling.

“That’s a fast, fast start. We moved in and out of tempoing the ball game. I thought we controlled it. When we wanted to go fast, we went fast. When we wanted to slow it down, we slowed it down.”

—Smith on the Falcons scoring on their first six drives.

“Yes, I am, but it’s not about a coach. There are a lot of people who have contributed to number of wins since Thomas and I have gotten here. It’s about the players. It’s about the coaches. There’s a lot of people that made contributions to that (record.)”

—Smith on if he was aware the win made him the franchise’s winningest coach.

“I was a little rusty, but I’ll get back into the swing of things.”

—Defensive tackle Corey Peters on his return to the lineup.

“It’s just something that we’ve been working on. May be we’ll see more of it in the future. It just depends on what the offense is trying to do to us.”

—Peters on the Falcons nickel package that included three defensive tackles.

“He did a great job. I told him that I was proud of him. He was coming into a tough situation; a tough environment. Against that pass rush, to get your first start, I thought he played really well today.”

—Center Todd McClure on rookie Peter Konz making his first NFL start. He started at right guard for Garrett Reynolds.

“I think we did a good job. Most of all, we tackled them when we had a chance to tackle them. There weren’t many missed. A lot of the big runs in weeks prior came from missed tackles. We did a good job of wrapping up.”

—Defensive end John Abraham on the defense’s tackling efforts.

“They gave us some different looks out there. We were prepared for everything. We knew we were going to have some un-scouted looks out there. We really couldn’t change too much.”

—Running back Michael Turner on facing the Eagles’ defense under a new coordinator.

“Our Oline coach Pat Hill said it was like an 80-round fight. There are 80 plays in a game. 80 rounds and we had to answer the ball every time. I think we did. We just kept getting the huddle and coming out and we were just fighting.”

—Right tackle Tyson Clabo on the line’s approach to the game.

“It went good. It’s always tough to play in an away environment, especially in your first game. I think it went pretty well.”

—Rookie right guard Peter Konz on his first NFL start.

“I think I might have been in high school when (Cullen Jenkins) was with the Packers. I obviously knew about him. He’s a seasoned vet. There is a reason why he’s been in this league so long. He’s pretty good. It was a good battle today.”

— Konz, a Wisconsin native, on going against nine-year veteran Philadelphia tackle Cullen Jenkins in his first NFL start.

I think Atlanta opened some eyes today as far as the National pundits are concerned…Went In and beat a good Eagles team on their own turf…We owed them a good thumping and we did It….Cowboys are next….

“beat a good Eagles team”?? Now you know a bunch of the media (and resident trolls) will say that the Eagles (3-4) aren’t any kind of a measuring stick. I’m not downplaying the fact they went to Lincoln Financial Field and solidly whipped a perennial power, but the Eagles are unraveling. If Reid gets the ax today I would not be shocked. But they stuck it to a defense that has not been too bad in the rankings: PTS .20.8 (11th) YDS…330.8 (12th) PASS .226.3 (15th) RUSH…104.5 (14th) This game was over at halftime but don’t expect any love from the media, somehow…someway, they are still going to say we are unproven. Will we get any love if we go 8-0………..??

Cowboys Offense
PTS 19.6 (23rd)
YDS 383.3 (7th)
PASS YDS 297.3 (3rd)
RUSH YDS 86.0 (29th)
Cowboys Defense
PTS 23.1 (18th)
YDS 292.4 (4th)
PASS YDS 187.7 (3rd)
RUSH YDS 104.7 (13th)

Dallas, 3-4, have wins against Tampa Bay, Carolina, and NY Giants Losses to NY Giants, Baltimore, Seattle, and Chicago

Great quotes and beginning to feel like this team understands that you win by playing hard for 80 plays or more..one play at a time and there is no taking a rest. You have to outpunch them, out run them and beat them up to win it all in the NFL. Luck plays a role but preperation meeting opportunity gives the ANGRY BIRDS (love the new motto) a distinct advantage. Congrats to Pat Hill . Kudos to Koetter..and Coach Smith is becoming a treasure for our team..and Dimitroff is so cool and unruffled with his behind the scenes work ethic. This week: Falcons 40- Dallas 14…

A great win. I hope we continue the season without any major injuries and continue to improve with each game. I love the wa that each game brings a different game plan. It is hard to prepare a game plan for a team that constantly changes thier look both on Offense and Defense. Keep up the good work, maybe this year the Falcons can get the respect that they richly deserve. Go Dirty Birds…… Hope we can continue the winning streak. Would love to see winning streak go deep into post season and beyond.
