Video: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan discusses the Eagles

FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has thrown at least one interception in the last four games, including three against Oakland in his last outing.

Over his 68 regular-season starts, he’s only thrown three interceptions in one other game. He threw three in a 35-27 loss to New Orleans on Nov. 2, 2009.
Also, he has only one other stretch throwing an interception in four straight games.

In 2009, in the 20th through 25th games in his career, he threw 11 interceptions over a six-game stretch. In 2008, 2010 and 2011, he never had four straight games with a pick.

In 2009, he tossed a career-high 14 interceptions.

During the bye-week, Koetter had chance to breakdown the interceptions.

Ryan had a rare misread on his first interception against the Raiders.

“We had two other guys open and we threw to wrong guy and the (Oakland) guy made a nice play,” Koetter said. “One of them, we misidentified it and they did blitz us through the A gap. We did have plenty of blockers. We just blocked the wrong guys. They hit Matt right as he was throwing.”

Koetter took the blame for the third interception.

“That was a bad call by me,” Koetter said. “I shouldn’t have had us in that play.”

While Ryan’s picks are statistically alarming because of their rarity of a four-game streak, Koetter is not overly concerned.

“It was three different causes for those interceptions,” Koetter said. “They may or may not blitz us more, but I don’t think it will be because of that.”

It’s kinda scary to see who he’s done this against. Excluding the charger game, he’s thrown interceptions against below average teams. And the better teams are on deck.

Sounds to me like the smart money would be on Ryan having a clean game then. If a 4 game stretch od at least 1 pick is an anomaly (and it is) and he is having his best seaon yet (and he is) odds are this is a break out game. Big of Koetter to fall on his sword like that though. All 3 looked like bad decisions by Ryan to me. Even on the one he got hit…sometimes a sack isn’t the worse thing that can happen.

kevkat, this is the NFL. Any QB in the league can throw 3+ INT’s against the “worst” defense in the league. Ryan has thrown an INT in 4 games. Three of his 6 were all in one game in which we still won.

Weather tends to negatively impact a passing game moreso than a running regime…is that a nor’easter developing up there?

Dled, I thought Matt kind of started forcing ball into coverage A little…however, the difference is he made the plays when the game was on the line…that’s a sign of maturity for me.

That would matter if Andy Reid was a run first coach. Also, weather(rain) has a tendency to limit the impact of speed (change of direction) on a game. RISE UP!!!!!!

@DC Dirty Bird: Bottom line, rainy weather helps the ground game, hinders the passing game. The falcan’ts have been more aggressive in the air attack but have floundered in their ground game this year. Whereas the Eagles have been more productive on the ground as a team.

Go Eagles! Go Coach Killa!

Is Philly’s stadium grass or turf?? That will be huge if it’s raining. And in actuality, rain helps a passing team as their receivers know exactly where they are going. The DB’s, on the other hand, do not know, and when they plant their feet to make their cuts it’s easier to slip since the field is wet.
