Atlanta Falcons: Corey Peters returned to practice today

FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons defensive tackle Corey Peters, who’s been out with a stress fracture, returned to practice on today.

He suffered the injury while running in the offseason.

“It looked like it was a stress fracture there prior to the injury and it just happened,” Peters told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution before taking the field. “It was going to happen regardless.”

Peters has been rehabilitating while on the team’s reserve/non-football injured list.

“I’m excited about it,” Peters said. “It’s been since January since I’ve been able to play. I’m really excited about it. It’s just like a kid in the candy store.”

Peters suffered the injury before the team’s offseason program started so he’s missed minicamp, organized team activities and training camp. Peters, a third-year player from Kentucky, has been working out with the training staff.

“It was very difficult,” Peters said about his solo workouts. “It was like that kid looking out the window because his Mom wouldn’t let him go outside to play. I’m excited to get back out there with the guys. I hope I can contribute in any way possible.”

Peters is not sure how long it will take him to get into football shape. The Falcons have three weeks to activate him or send him to injured reserve.

“I’m not sure,” said Peters, when asked how long it will take him to get ready. “I’m just focusing on it a day at a time. I haven’t practiced. I hope to get my feet underneath me pretty quickly. Hopefully, I get back into game shape as soon as possible.

Peters started 15 of 16 games as a rookie in 2010. He had 40 tackles, a sack and one pass breakup.

Last season, he started 15 games and had 33 tackles, three sacks, an interception, two pass breakups and he recovered a fumble and returned it 13 yards for a touchdown.

“2-4 is bad! Almost as bad as 0 for 3 in the playoffs.”

Nope. Not even close.

I hope Peters is on the fast track to get into game shape. Lord knows our Run D needs some help. I I think if we can do some rotations, it will help them from getting tired.

Atlanta Falcons fans calm down, I know we are in unchartered waters being 6.0 but this is not the time to jump from the highest bridge you can find. Do the hard thing first and enjoy the season and after its all over then we can beat them up over who done what. It is hard to kill a team week after week that has no loses but we some how manage to do so. Lets make a pack for the by week only and enjoy being undefeated. Yes it takes a while for that word to sink in “undefeated” As for now ENJOY. Go Birds

Seen this B4 . Actually, its not that the falcan’ts, as you say, that have to face the saints two times, its that the saints have to face these falcan’ts twice. Where would you glorious saints be without the “bounty” . What a human disgrace and you saints fans took up for them,,,, more worried about how it would effect your precious saints team of thugs, with few exceptions like Brees. He doesn’t belong in that collection of criminals.

Peters will be a real key to the rest of the season and a real force in the dt group, get up to speed Corey.
Michael Palmer is a solid te back up and now Galarada has gained some real gme ime expierence, the two wiil be valuable tools as we go down the strech.

Let me start by saying the Falcons will figure out the tackling and run blocking situation. Pete Carroll HC for the Seahawks believes in playing his rookie players in real game situations. Pete Carroll believes that a rookie needs to prove to him that he cannot play NFL level football. Whereas, with Mike Smith he is more oldschool and believes that a rookie needs to prove that he can play.

I said all this to say that Akeem Dent should have gotton some real playing time last season and he would be a lot further along in his development (i.e., being able to recognize the run and play faster, being able to shed blockers and get to the football). Right now, in his second season, Dent is virtually a rookie and he is not playing fast. The Falcons also drafted Travian Robertson DT this year and he is sitting on the bench. I guess he has to prove to the coaching staff that he can play football at the NFL level. Bottom line, Coach Smith and his staff needs to adapt to changing times in the NFL.

Make sure Corey is ready because we need him on that D-line. Abram,Babineau ,Peters and Sidbury should be the starters on the D-line. Biermann is a fan favorite but he doesn’t come hard enough off the edge. He’s on the field way to long, lateral movement needs work, take one person to block him. We need another force or some more forces on the D-line that demands a double team.
