Atlanta Falcons: Vaughan added to practice squad, LeGree released

FLOWERY BRANCH — Running back Josh Vaughan was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday.

To make room for Vaughan, the Falcons released safety Mark LeGree.

Vaughan, 6-0, 225 pounds, was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a college free agent out of Richmond on May 1, 2009. He was signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2010 and has seen action in 10 games over the past two seasons.

LeGree, 6-0, 211 pounds, was originally selected as a fifth round (156th overall) draft choice by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2011 NFL Draft.

PREVIOUS POST

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons worked out a couple of defensive backs — Marlin Jackson and Syd’quan Thompson — today.

Neither of the players were signed. The Falcons generally consider it their due diligence to work out some of the top free agents on Tuesdays during the regular season.

Jackson, 29, 6-foot, 196-pounds, was a first-round draft pick by the Colts in 2005. He has started 32 NFL games and played in 56.

Thompson, 25, 5-9, 191 pounds, was a seventh round draft pick by the Broncos in 2010.

With the season-ending injury to Brent Grimes, Dominique Franks, who was cut at the end of training camp and later re-signed, currently is the Falcons starting nickel back.

These workouts were probably due to Chris Owens and his injury issues. The guy has been banged up every since the spring. Dimitroff ain’t B.S. ing this year. Not standing pat. Next man up!!

6th! Who said Abraham was drunk? I didn’t see that anywhere? And besides, nothing wrong with having drinks…way better than what some of the other NFL players get in trouble for.

I think we will be fine in our secondary maybe pick up one extra guy for depth just in case but i think we’ll be fine. If owens only had a concussion he should be back soon though.

What happened to Darrin Walls? If he is available, we need to re-sign him.

Oh and i didnt say there was anything wrong with it, i just stated it would explain why he may have been resistant to want to leave the area. Because some ppl just arent themselves when they drink.

I believe in the modern era that you can never have enough defensive backs.

Id agree with u but your roster can only carry so many players and bringing in too many DBs will take depth from other important positions.

Both of these DBs are quality players. I liked Thompson coming out of college. I want to see what Terrence Johnson has in him, because Franks is a punt returner and is not able to hold up in coverage at this point in his career. Also, Peyton Thompson looked like a sticky coverage guy in Pre-season, I’d like to see what he can do

Sit back and relax, I believe Thomas, Mike, Dick and Dirk have things undercontrol, biggest problem I see is for these guys to keep their head in the game and not think that they can’t get beat.

I would like for them to resign walls also but since they released him they have to wait 3 months to resign him. So dumb new rule. I’m not 100 percent sure bit that’s what I was told after grimes got injured

While id agree turner is getting old i dont think well be able to get the type of player we are looking for, also why would atlanta trade a feature back for anothercornerback when our secondary really isnt doing that bad, i wouldnt get my hopes up on them trading turner, they will keep him till the end of the year then find a new feature back whether it be in the draft or via free agency, thats just the way i see it unfolding. Hey maybe we can grab pierr thomas

I love it TD and Coach M. Smith! The N.E. Patriots and Coach Bells tryout people every week. Look at nfl.com and you will see. There is o sense in playing. we are too close to the promise land. Tryout every player you think may be of value for now and down the road. N.E. didn’t sign the veteren T.E. the first week either then came back and got him two weeks later. You get a chance to see and talk to them face-to-face. I’m impressed.

D Walls got waived due to injury. He accutually got paid a injury settlement I think that why they have to wait a certain amount of time before he can be signed.

I think I read that Walls has to be out 6 games from the time he was released before he is eligible to be re-signed. I really like him, big, tall, aggressive, a Moore-type hitter. I guess he doesn’t have all the techniques down or they would have found a way to keep him, I’m guessing. I just wish that Dunta would or could defense a pass, but he doesn’t mind intimidating the receivers with his hitting. Looks like the DC knows what he is doing so we’ll just hang in there. Anybody see the Seahawks/Packers secondary at work last nite?

The reason the D is good is because Owens is not on the field. Please, don’t put Owens in so that we can continue the win streak. No Owens. No Owens. Anybody else is an upgrade.

Not sure DLED reads this far down in the blogs but I saw where Mike Smith stated how surprised he was at how many Falcons fans came to the San Diego game and he thought many might have been servicemen and women. Well I’m not a serviceman and I took my son to the game. None of the other Falcons fans I talked to were either. Not saying none were but when you win consistently fans show up. I live in Riverside 90 miles north of San Diego and I’ve started seeing Falcons fans everywhere I go! So please tell that to Coach Smith!

I really have never been able to figure out the rhyme or reason for position juggling on this team’s practice squad. It makes me wonder if there isn’t cloak and dagger stuff going on, like maybe the Falcons may hide a player by taking him off the PS roster, so no prying NFL eyes will be interested in our “reserves”.

So DLed, is Marlin Jackson’s legal troubles keeping him unemployed or his surgically repaired knee and blowout of his Achilles last year ………….this is a former #1 draft pick who has been to the Superbowl and 2 AFC Championships.

Well, we all were worried about Grimes going down, but it seems the safeties have taken the load so far to take weight off the cbs. One week, it’s Moore, the next, it’s Decoud. Loving it!

Way to go ABE, what a way to screw with the GREAT start to the season this year! Like we needed anymore bad mojo after what Turner did just a few days ago!! What is wrong with these idiots, do they simply want to destroy the excellent start they got working for them, now that Grimes isn’t being targeted every week like he use to be when he was a starter!! I knew our defense would play MUCH better with Grimes off the field, and so far that seems to be true!!
