UPDATED

FLOWERY BRANCH — Falcons coach Mike Smith addressed the arrest of defensive end John Abraham on Tuesday.

“Anytime anyone in our organization shows up negatively in the paper we are very disappointed as an organization,” Smith said. “There are certain policies and procedures that we have to follow in terms of the NFL and this is a legal process and we’re going to let the legal process and run its course.”

Smith would not say if Abraham will be disciplined and added that he expected him to play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

“Our discipline policies are something that we keep internally,” Smith said. “There are certain guidelines that are set by the NFL and NFLPA that were collectively bargained. Anything that we do, we’ll keep that internally.”

Abraham was the second player arrested over the past week. Running back Michael Turner was arrested for driving under the influence after the Denver Broncos game. He was started and played the entire game against San Diego.

“Anytime that there’s something negative, there is cause for concern internally whether if it happens once or every five years or every six months are once a week,” Smith said.  “There are areas of concerned. We are very disappointed, but we’ve got to prepare for our next opponent and that’s the Carolina Panthers.”

Atlanta police arrested Falcons defensive end John Abraham tonight at Atlantic Station in Midtown.

John Chafee of the APD’s Public Affairs Unit said were responding to a call about a woman threatening to jump from one of the buildings when Abraham refused to exit the scene. Chafee said police charged Abraham with obstruction of police and obstruction of fire fighters.

Chafee said the charges are misdemeanors and Abraham was booked at the Fulton County Jail.

Abraham did not respond to an email message and his agent, Rich Rosa, did not immediately return a message left on his voicemail. A Falcons spokesman also did not return a phone message.

“We are aware of the news regarding John Abraham,” the Falcons said in a statement. “We are in the process of gathering more information and we will have no further comment at this time.”

Chafee said the woman, who did not jump and was uninjured, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

According to a copy of the police report provided by Chafee, officers moved people away from the scene and put up crime scene tape to restrict onlookers from the area. The police report said Abraham entered the restricted area and was confronted by a firefighter who “repeatedly ordered him to leave the scene.”

Nearby officers then responded and ordered Abraham to leave, according to the police report. The report says Abraham “refused and insisted on continuing [farther] into the scene” at which point police arrested him.

Abraham is the second Falcons player to be arrested in the past week.

Gwinett County police arrested running back Michael Turner early last Tuesday on charges of DUI and speeding. Turner later apologized to the Falcons and the team’s fans for what he called a “bad decision on my part.”

No wonder, when I try to spell Falcons on my phone the spell check will automatically spell it Felons.

There’s more to this story than was reported. Wait to hear the rest of the story before you make a judgement.

This is why I sometimes hate the media……here’s what they didn’t tell you. I LIVE IN THE BUILDING THAT THIS GIRL WAS ATTEMPTING TO JUMP FROM. ITS CALLED THE TWELVE ATLANTIC STATION. JOHN IS MY NEIGHBOR IN THIS BUILDING. HE WAS TRYING TO COME HOME, NOT OBSTRUCT JUSTICE! See how conveniently they didn’t mention the name of the building or the fact that he is a home owner in the building he was attempting to approach……just another case of the shed a bad light black athletes. This girl was two balconies over and one down from me. She is so beautiful, splitting image of Kristen Stewart. Some of my other neighbors know her but I didn’t recognize her. We just kept talking to her and begging her not to let go of the railing. Kudos to management for getting the police offers inside to talk her down and equally important, to all the neighbors and by-standers who wouldn’t budge from encouraging her and giving supportive words that kept her holding on. Just goes to show, you never know what other people are going through…even now, I still can’t go out on my deck, still super shaken up by it.

The public affairs description of what happened is misleading, the story first gave the impression John Abraham was at the sceen where the woman was trying to jump. Later in the story it clears it a little when they mentioned he was trying to get to the sceen where the women was located. Done really amount to anything, but AJC writers are not grammer savy. They get paid to write

In what has the makings of a magical Falcon football season, we see two arrests in less than a week. Not a good thing. Of course Falcon Fans most memorable arresst in team history was when Eugene Robinson was arrested for solciting a hooker the night before the Super Bowl. This leaves a bad taste in Falcon Fans mouths. Players need to stay out of trouble and focus on the season. This could be ourr year.

John is a great player and we need him. I have $20 on the Falcons to win it all. Vegas had them at 20:1 so I made the bet. When is medical MJ going to come to Georgia? Are we a police state? Let’s make some radical changes and be free. You know who you arrested. Do you like the publicity? Can we please vote on medical marijuana…or are the drug companies keeping a tight lid on the politicians in GA? Falcons will win it all this year…First!

On the pro level, I only care about the product on the field unless it involves domestic abuse, child abuse, or oh i dunno..electrocuting DOGS. I don’t think a misdemeanor interference arrest is a big deal, especially when he have no idea of the context.

With the packers going to 1-2 (I think, anyway..the end of that game was odd to say the least) and the vile Aint’s at 0-3 and our fast start, we have a real opportunity that, If seized, can provide us a HOME playoff game to make up for 2010. I am psyched for the remaining 14 weeks of the season!

It’s very simple Taxman. When the POLICE tell you to leave, you need to leave. If you know the lady threatening to jump, you can stay but on the side, out of the way. If you don’t know the lady, LEAVE! And yes, I am a cop. Don’t tell the police how to do their job and they won’t tell you how to deliver pizzas. I’d say you’re a moron but that would be an insult to morons.

There has got to be more to the story than what was initially reported. Still this has to be proof that the Falcons are on the verge of greatness…how else could anyone explain all of this Eugene Robinson type stuff.
