MIKE SMITH, Falcons head coach
On safety Thomas DeCoud: Thomas had an outstanding game. He was doing a very nice job there in the back end and had some opportunities to make plays and when they came his way he was able to make the plays. That’s what you have to be able to do. Those were two very athletic plays on the turnovers.
On Matt Ryan’s play: Matt had a very good game. I think out entire offense had a good game. I believe Matt was 30 of 40, 75 completion percentage. I know there’s a throw or two he would’ve like to have back but I thought it was really efficient play by our offense. The game plan that our offense put together was outstanding and the guys went out and executed it.
MATT RYAN, quarterback
On if the offense got tired on the 17-play drive: I felt OK. I was a little winded. It was warm out there. It felt a lot like Atlanta. I felt good enough and that’s one of the things we started out huddling in that drive then wee up-tempo’d it later. It kept them off balance and that was big. Our guys did a great job battling. They kept player.”
On if he feels different: “Yeah, I think so. I think each team is different. The confidence level across the board is probably higher than it’s been. That’s not to say we haven’t been confident in the past. We’ve had some good football teams in the past. I think it’s early. We’re only three weeks into it, but collectively we played really good football.”
TONY GONZALEZ, tight end
On the 3-0 start: It’s just 3-0. That’s all it is. It’s a great start. That’s all that it is. We have started strong.
SEAN WEATHERSPOON, linebacker
On the turnovers: Guys are just attacking the ball. Never quitting on plays. Like that last play when Will [Moore] knocked the ball out. He was trying to get some extra yards. We had to keep fighting. Will came in and knocked the ball out and recovered it.
DUNTA ROBINSON, cornerback
On the safeties: It’s a lot of fun. Like I told Asante [Samuel], we have to get into this mix some kind of way. The safeties are kind of taking off with the ball. We have to make some plays on the ball. We are making them, but we are just not intercepting them. We can’t let the safeties lead this team in interceptions.”
On the national pundits picking the Chargers to win: If don’t nobody believe in us, we believe in each other. We played with a lot of confidence. We have a lot of fun in practice. We have a lot of fun on Sundays. We really don’t listen to outsiders because we know how hard we work. That’s really all that matters to us.
JOHN ABRAHAM, defensive end
On the short week: We have a mature team here even with a lot of the young guys and we all know what we have to do. Our coach also did a great job of resting us this week so we weren’t too beat up coming in here.”
