Atlanta Falcons: Michael Turner was leaving Magic City

Flowery Branch – Falcons running back Michael Turner, who was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with driving under the influence, apologized and was remorseful for his actions.

Click here for the news story from the police report. Turner was leaving renowned strip club Magic City when was arrested.

(Here’s a story on how the hard economic times have pushed more women to strip clubs.)

It was the second time in five seasons that a player was arrested in Gwinnett County after leaving a post-game celebration. Lawyer Milloy was arrested in a similar case in September of 2008.

“I’d like to apologize to Mr. Blank, Thomas Dimitroff, Mike Smith and the whole Falcons organization and the fans out there for the situation that I’m in right now,” Turner said. “It was a bad decision on my part.

I can’t say too much about it in detail right now. I’m just trying to move forward from here.”

The violation will lead to Turner entering the league’s substance abuse program as a first-time offender. If Turner doesn’t have any additional problems, he could eventually be dismissed from the program. If he has another alcohol related arrest, he could be suspended and face a fine from the league.

San Francisco linebacker Clark Haggans was suspended for three games for a 2011 DUI arrest after he pleaded guilty. He could have been suspended for up to six games.

Turner is expected to stay in the lineup while his case moves through the legal system.

“Nobody has told me that I’m not playing so, I’m just going to prepare like I am [playing,]” Turner said.

Turner is not sure why he didn’t call a driver or limo service to take him home. The league and team provide that service to players.

“Any time that you’re in a situation like this you don’t want this to happen,” Turner said. “You try to keep a clean slate throughout your whole life like everyone else. Unfortunately, this happened and I just have to move forward.”

Turner spoke with his father and then Falcons coach Mike Smith after the arrest.

“Disappointment,” Turner said was the tone of those talks. “I don’t think that anybody is more disappointed than myself. I just have to man up, talk to everybody and face it.

“I’m just taking it day by day. I’m around the guys right now and they are keeping me encouraged and telling me to keep my head up and take it day by day.”

He realizes that he made a mistake.

“It’s a tough situation,” Turner said. “You don’t want to disappoint anybody, family or friends, co-workers or anybody. It’s always tough.”

Turner doesn’t believe his has a drinking problem.

“I shouldn’t have been in this situation to begin with,” Turner said. “It’s tough.”

Turner rushed for 42 yards on 17 carries against Denver. He contends his play and the arrest were not related.

“I never really thought about it like that,” Turner said.

“I asked him if the shots were normal size and he stated they were in cups, not shot glasses,” the report states.

I was thinking MT is a big guy and 5 shots wouldn’t put him over the limit but 5 cups would I suppose

Michael Turner had a bad night Monday night because Denver is a beast at stopping the run. Nobody can run through a DT you have to run block, cut and open some holes. Now one the one occasion when that was effectively done he picked up 16 yards. You guy need to realize running he football is a team effort. Stop H8 n

Let’s face it, it’s a stupid law invented by mad mother against everything and sponsored by white baptists who support prohibition. I’m actually more worried that he was doing 100 than having a few shots. PS I’m not endorsing drunk driving. But .11? That’s three beers.

Well, if Smith wasn’t hurt, they need to play his a$$. If he’s not the fastest player on the team, he’s the fastest RB by a long shot. He runs hard. He slashes. He’s been on the roster for almost all of the last 3 years and has one carry–ONE. In preseason he has been lights out, and then he sits on the bench during the season. What am I missing here?

Let the smear campaign continue.smh For the love of God, we’re focused on this when there was just a guy down here who had a “fundraiser” who just said half of us living in this country are depending on the govt who’s WAY richer than a pro athlete and WAY more detached from us than a pro athelete. These types of people are toxic and here you all are berating a guy for a simple mistake. So now he’s an alcoholic b/c of this? Some of you people are sick….seriously. Really showing me a lot of your character on here by judging one man while another steadily pimps your psyches into believing he’s actually trying to get elected for your benefit. The other guy isnt much better either but goodness. I know this is sports talk but please let’s raise our collective consciousness beyond a sub human level for a change. I’m done man.,….Michael M. and all my other favs….I’ll be back when this dies down because I cant keep dodging these stones people know damn well they shouldnt be throwing….

Let me say that he should have a large fine and suspended license. He is lucky he didn’t kill someone in the process. He is lucky it was just a DUI. Since it was a DUI, pay the fine and do your community service then move on. If it happens again, see you later. Go play somewhere else.

If the Falcons had any decency they would keep him off the field this week just to make a statement that they don’t condone this type of behavior. Of course we all know how important a football game is so that is why he isn’t going to miss a game. What if he got in an accident and injured someone or worse killed someone? Would any of you say this is no big deal, he drank and got caught. What a moronic thing for anyone to say. Why anyone thinks this issue has anything to do with Michael Turner being a reliable player is beyond me. That has no place in this equation. What he did was stupid and he should at least be punished for it.

How many different ways can you spell stupid? Driving 95 at 4 am, by itself, is stupid, on an Interstate with TV cameras every mile. But most of all, Michael shows why the Falcons won’t win. He doesn’t give a damn, when you come right down to it. Nope, no sacrifices for him during the regular season. Get layed, get high, get drunk, screw off, whatever. Can’t keep is mind on the game. For every time a drunk gets caught, there’s dozens when he wasn’t caught. He’d rather jerk off than play football. And the Falcons will keep him, and go right down the tubes. When the chips are down, Michael wont come through.

Warning to all pro black athelets who play on an Atlanta team: Please do not disappoint the fans. They will abandon you all too quickly. A white hockey player who wraps his sports car around a utility pole on Peachtree and some one winds up dead, they merely sigh. They will quickly say “It’s not about race, and stop playing the race card.”

You are beyond dumb, and are simply repulsive in your ability to take responsibility for you own prejudices. What a jerk! DUI driver kill, you moron!

Atlanta has had at least three drunk wrong way drivers kill people on Interstates in the last couple of months. Many others have died from drunks less spectacularly. What race were they? But prejudiced clowns THINK that because a star Atlanta Falcon gets arrested for a DUI, and he happens to be black, the topic is REALLY about race. Some whiners use EVERY excuse that spread hate and avoid the consequences of their own arrogance and prejudices. Time for such clowns to be ridiculed as fools. Obsolete as the dinosaur, but as a apreader of mental disease that leads to a self-centered sickness of repulsive self-centeredness.

MT made a serious mistake and will pay for it. That being said, I’m not sure the highly negative “fans” were watching the same game I was. I saw little in the line of open holes for MT or any other running back. I saw the strength that MT has driving the pile forward for positive yards when most backs would have folded in the backfield. I was happy to see them test the running game on Monday night. It has a ways to go but they have the smarts and the personnel to do it. MT is a key ingredient in a tremendous running game. I don’t know if anyone noticed a whole bunch of people like Elvis Dumerville and Von Miller over on the Denver side of the ball. I give them a LOT of credit for MT being limited in yards. They are professionals too and get paid a lot to stuff guys like MT. On Monday night they won that battle (but not the game) … not sure if that will happen too many times. MT and this O-Line are just too good. GO MT! GO FALCONS!

Stop acting like Turner was a victim…he was drunk and got caught, it happens but in my opinion it shouldn’t during the season but he can live his life like he wants, just be accountable. He’s a grown man, he’s aware of the consequences if he gets caught. Y’all act like he being crucified, it happens all the time, just be prepared to be heckled lol dude leaving Magic City like he just got 200 yards and 3 tds. He’ll be alright.

I also agree with Kathy and Oedipus…How many people have died tragically because of drunk drivers in the last couple of months? The cops really saved his life, freak accidents happen everyday even when drivers are sober…and when you’re impaired in the slightest it’s even more likely something could happen.

I’m sure most athletes who are paid well go home after having a bad game, lock the doors, turn on their computers, read the entirely reasonable comments from every blog and messageboard commenter, cry a little, and then, through tear-blurred eyes, make a solemn vow to do better next time.

Or maybe they have realize that they have cash, go out and have a few drinks, enjoy the pseudo-company of some paid ladies, and proceed to do the same kind of stupid stuff that so many out in the real world do.
