Falcons coach Mike Smith on Michael Turner’s arrest

FALCONS COACH MIKE SMITH ON TURNER’S ARREST

“First and foremost, anytime a player sheds negatively on our football team and our organization, we’re very disappointed. This is a legal matter that is very well defined on how we have to proceed through the league. We’ll let this process run its course. I want to emphasize that I’ve spoken with Michael we’ve had a conversation and like all conversations with my players, we like to keep those internally.

“He knows that we are disappointed in the decisions that we made after the ball game last night.”

ON IF TURNER WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS PLAY AND IF THAT LED TO HIS ARREST: You can’t speculate on that. Again, anytime a player sheds a negative light on our football team and our organization, we are disappointed. I can’t say any more than that.

There are certain parameters that are set in place by the collective bargaining agreement which is between the NFL and NFLPA. Those guidelines will be followed in terms of what we can and can not do. If there is going to be any internal discipline, that discipline will stay internally. That will be the conversations that we have Michael and the conversations that we already had this morning.

WHAT ARE THE INTERNAL OPTIONS: I don’t want to discuss the internal options that we have. Again, it’s collectively bargained between the NFL and the NFLPA. This is a legal matter and it has to run its course and it will. I don’t think that it’s appropriate for me to talk anymore about it.

FALCONS RELEASE STATEMENT ABOUT RB MICHAEL TURNER

“We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time.”

During last night’s game, I easily noticed Turner was not giving 100%. Falcons need a good running back who is explosive and will block when not carrying the ball. Turner’s actions concerning his arrest for drunkeness should result in his dismissal. He embarassed all of us who are Falcon supporters.

Turner was giving 100% last night. He has just gotten too slow.

Give us Antone Smith.

Give the ball to Snelling, he’s ready coach. This explains why Turner is going down so easy. He has a problem making over 5m out 5 am speeding, don’t add up to nothing. We need to let him rest and get things together, maybe get some counseling.

Be glad MT did not KILL a family or families in a foolish wreck at 97 mph………………..Can you say FOOL? I wonder how many football fans would sympathize with MT if he killed a bunch of people close to them He needs to be BRUTALLY punished for this JUST LIKE any of us would.

I have been wondering why they keep running him , It is obvious he has lost his desire. He runs to the pile and goes down without much effort, nothing like the way he use to run. I believe he has some personal issues. This is his second negative headline this season,,,FALCON Management sit him on the bench and try to trade him.

While I’m not a fan of Turner’s style or run production, I didn’t see Snelling or Quizz establish a run game either. Smitty keeps banging them in there but not much happens, not like a couple of years ago. I’m not sure why, but could it be the OL run-blocking. They are great on pass block!

Gimme (the Falcons and fans) a break! All ESPN and the other nationwide sports outlets wanted to talk about Tuesday was how baaaaaaad Payton Manning and the officiating was. The Falcons got little press and little credit. Now the local outlets are talking about Turner. The win versus the Broncos was huge yet the team gets practically no credit because of Manning, officiating and now, Michael Turner.
I am thankful MT or no one else was injured and he DEFINITELY needs to sit awhile. And since the Falcons have been having some trouble running the ball–which they WILL HAVE TO DO (if) when they make their playoffs–maybe the offensive line will have to spend more time concentrating on run blocking, which will help the team in the long run. While MT is still a good NFL back if you watch the film of the last two years, since his ankle injury, you can easily see that he doesn’t hit the line-of-scrimmage with the same intensity and speed he did before. I believe we can now safely assume that the Falcons will be picking an RB in the first or second round in 2013 draft–unless they go after another established NFL back through trade or free agency during the off season.

I loved what Turner did for us over the seasons here. But I think it is time to play Antone Smith and see what happens. If he can play like he did in preseason, he needs to be on the field, because he won’t stay a backup after this year if he can keep playing like he did for us in August. Play him now or watch him start somewhere else next year.

If I did what MT did, I would have had so many billy clubs on my body,I would never drive drunk again. Don’t make excuses for a man that could easily have KILLED many innocent people as the idiot was driving about 100 mph and drunk. I DON’TCARE WHO U ARE.

I do not encourage drinking!!! Studipity is the key!!! Be a responsibile drinker and driver. Rule of thumb: If you are drinking more than one drink, have a driver that doesn’t drink. Rule 2: Money can pay for a limo or taxi drive, if you are partying and drinking!!! Rule 3: Drunken driving Kills!!! Rule 4: Call someone and have your vehicle moved to your home!!!

Throw him in at fullback. We hardly ever use one, and at least he could block for Snelling or Rodgers.

What a player can do now is more important to a team than what he did in the past. This years MT is not the MT of old. Management must base its decisions on now and the future, with a cautious eye on the past.

This probably is the” straw that breaks the camels back” as far as MT remaining a Falcon. I am sorry that it has to end this way but it is time to move beyond MT and let the young guys run the ball. He contributed a great .deal and was a terrific RB in his prime. That time has passed. I hope he has invested his money well and will have a successful after football career

I think Turner has one year remaining on his deal. I wouln’t be surprised, even he has a 1000 yard season…that the Falcons go in a different direction next year through Free Agency or the draft.

Please let him go…he is killing our team with his play…same ol thing as last year….it now looks like the problem last year wasn’t so much the O-line but it was Turner.

They will probably do as the Braves did with CRISTHIAN MARTINEZ nothing!

The main problem is Turner is not the” Burner ” anymore but better known as the “Tortoises”.
It’s time Falcon’s get a new running back…period. Please Blank, TD, and Smith make the move.

Was Antone Smith really injured?

Antone Smith ran a 10.63 100m in college. He ran a 4.25 40 in high school. He was running 4.28 at FSU. At his pro day, he ran a 4.32.

He runs hard and catches the ball.

Is he really hurt?

How can anyone say they doubt he wa speeding? That is about the stupidest remark I have ever heard. I’m sure they just picked a motorist out, pulled him for speeding when he wasn’t and found he was dui. Right! Wish the cops had that much insight. A guy screws up, he screws up. Don’t come up with this cops are bad crap!!

For all the morons here claiming to be “disappointed” or affected by “negativity” or whatever, take a P!$$ in your Nuttasack and call it Jack Black and see if that relieves your tight a holes.

Who cares? DUIs are not going to end as long as cars and alcohol are around. So why single out this guy?

I want him to get a 100 yarder at San Diego this Sunday and I’ll be happy.

I don’t want to talk about Turners legal problems until all the facts come out. But if he keeps playing like he has, he will be on the bench. He has to realize when he’s running the ball and he sees a wall you got to find a way to go around the clutter.

Jacquizz Rogers could not play at Georgia or Tech. How is he getting minutes with Antone Smith on the roster? Talk about an indictment of this organization’s player assessment IQ. That he can “hide” behind the lineman is not the point … the point is to move the ball downfield. When they do “find” him he has gone very far. A huff and puff and he’s off his feet.

His job requires top physical condition, so he put his body and his job at risk by drinking too much and then stupidly driving under the influence. Lucky for him he didn’t kill someone or himself while he was driving drunk. I hope he appreciates the opportunity to do it right the next time.
