Keith Brooking to make return to the Georgia Dome

FLOWERY BRANCH – Former Falcons stalwart Keith Brooking, now a member of the Denver Broncos, is set to make his return to the Georgia Dome on Monday.

In order to improve their depth on defense, the Broncos signed the former Falcons stalwart after training camp started in August.

Despite missing most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, the five-time Pro Bowler played on nine of Denver’s 81 defensive snaps (11%) in their 31-19 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

After not being re-signed by the Falcons after the 2008 season, Brooking signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He spent the last three seasons wearing a star on his helmet.

Here’s a photo gallery of Brooking’s career with the Falcons.

The Broncos are playing Brooking, 36, at weakside linebacker and on special teams. He backed up Wesley Woodyard and played mostly in running situations.

In a 37-21 victory in Oct. of 2009, Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking (51) cheers toward the Falcons bench after teammate Patrick Crayton scored a touchdown. The former Falcon had two tackles for the Cowboys. (Vernon Bryant, Dallas Morning News)

“The plan for (Brooking) was to spell a little bit,” Denver coach John Fox told the Denver Post. “We probably didn’t do a good job of spelling our three (linebackers.) They were up in the 70s as far as (play) totals. We’ll bring Danny Trevathan along as well as Keith Brooking, who didn’t get a lot of time on the field in the preseason.”

Brooking was a surprise roster pick because he didn’t play during the preseason.

“We’re going off reputation and the leadership that he can bring,” Broncos executive vice president John Elway told the Denver Post at the time.

Brooking was drafted out of Georgia Tech in 1998 and played with the Falcons until 2008.

Brooking is just part of Denver’s “Georgia Gang” that includes Woodyard (LaGrange native), cornerback Champ Bailey (Georgia), wide receiver Demaryius Thomas (Georgia Tech) and running back Knowshon Moreno (Georgia).

The Falcons current regime elected not to re-sign Brooking after the 2008 season and told him that “this is a young man’s game.”

After the Cowboys beat the Falcons in 2009, Brooking celebrated wildly.

It was understandable that Brooking was pumped for the Cowboys-Falcons game in October (which somewhat turned both teams’ seasons around — the Falcons’ in the wrong direction). It was somewhat comical — and certainly out of character — how he trash-talked his former team and mocked them during Dallas’s win. (He later apologized for the trash-talking. But when asked about taunting the team by flapping his arms like a bird during the game, he responded, “I ain’t apologizing to anybody.”)

Brooking should be forgiven for his actions. The Broncos should introduce him with the starting lineup so the local kid from Coweta County can get one last ovation at the Georgia Dome.

I hope this kind of good fortune can follow me to the convenience store – I’m playing lotto at later today. I’m a fan of Keith Brooking (even after the crazy antics he gave us when he was with the Cowboys). That said, I hope he can take the boos that are going to cascade down on him Monday night. I believe, if he can handle them, it will go a long way in repairing his image with the Falcons faithful. If not, he may get a stain on his career. I forgive him for his tantrum. I’m just hoping he doesn’t make it a trend.

If they do introduce him, he’ll get a heck of a lot more boos than cheers. Between that gaff in the playoffs against Arizona and the photo above that keeps showing up every time Brooking is mentioned, he doesn’t stand a chance for a warm reception. A shame because he really was a stand out player for many years.

I don’t think they introduce bench players. Nevertheless, if he is introduced I will be booing loudly. As far as I’m concerned Brooking burned his bridge to Atlanta by mocking us in that Cowboy game. He had no cause to do so. He was given a nice cordial farewell press conference where he thanked the Falcon organization for all that it had done for him then he acted like a complete and utter jerk as if we had thrown him under the bus. Patrick Kerney left under similar terms and not once did he diss his former team. That’s the difference between class and classless.

Falcons are a better football Team as a whole at home so odds favor them to win this game…..true Denver won their opener against the Steelers but they played that one at Denver while the Falcons played a tough one on the road in front of a very loud crowd………………………………………………………Falcons look like a much stronger Team than last year so far this Season…….you know the odds makers gonna pick Denver to beat us because they like Manning…………………but I am a Falcon Fan and going with my Team to upset Denver and come up with another Win even if it is on Primetime…………………….
Falcons can win in Primetime….they whipped up on the Ravens on a Thursday night football game, I think it was last year………………………………….

I appriciate what he did here both at Georgia Tech, Senoia, the Keith Brooking Foundation and the Falcons. He played hard made a lot of tackles and was a good teammate. He never really lived up to marketing, but it wasn’t his fault and I don’t begrudge anyone for taking the money they can get.

It annoyed me he would be so completely clownish and unprofessional with Dallas, but hey, that’s a clownish and unprofessional organization so it is what it is I guess.

Welcome back Keith, try not to be a douche this time please.

Denver Defensive tackle Ty Warren underwent an MRI exam on the elbow injury, and coach John Fox just announced he suffered a re-tear of the triceps he tore last season.

Fox has yet to meet with Warren, and just received the update from the Broncos’ medical staff.

The team has yet to determine Warren’s status, but the injury is likely season-ending.

The Broncos have not yet taken advantage of the new rule that allows teams to designate one player to return from IR.

Brooking has always been a windbag that danced and celebrated a LOT more than he delivered. I find his showboating, even when he was a Falcon, much more over rated than his play ever was. He has no need to apologize to us…..Keith, we dont care and your irrelevant.

As for Ty Warren, he has played 5 plays in 2 years for us, and is getting paid about a million per play. We have more depth at d line than we’ve had in years and losing him is really no loss at all at this point in his career.

I always liked Brooking but… he is not the class act that Tony Gonzales is… and the fans in the Dome will likely not feel the urge to applaud his return as Tong G got at Arrowhead in KC.

Brooking made a clear statement of what he thinks of Atlanta, the Falcons franchise and of its fans. There was nothing to apologize for and we should feel no need to offer anything in return other than what we got.

___________________________________________________

Cassel had the 7th highest Total QB rating, P. Manning merely 4th. Matt Ryan was #1. If they put Brooking in on defense you can rest assured our high octane offense will burn him. Nobody’s upset about Brooking or wishes him ill will. He just showed a rather large lack of class on our stage in a game where he essentially did nothing. Put him in, there’s a good chance Brooking is gonna end up on his back side and it’s OK if we enjoy the moment!

Note to D.Led: “Brooking should be forgiven for his actions.” If Brooking seeks forgiveness from the Falcon Nation then I’ll forgive and forget. But as long as his attitude is “I ain’t apologizing to anybody.”, well then he can stick it.

I don’t see how this is blog worthy talking about K. Brooking. I am very indifferent towards this football player. The Falcons organization gave him a great send off. Just as the blog suggests, it was out of character for Brooking to display such trash-talking and taunting behavior but it shows how bitter the man is and his overall character. Football is a business Mr. Brooking and you shouldn’t take it personal and be mature about it (that’s asking alot out of a football player) especially how Falcons treated you with great care.

Brooking got cut in 2008 by a different owner, diff GM, different Head Coach, different Def Coordinator than the ones that drafted him. There were no players or coaches from the group that drafted him in 1998.

He was cut at age 32 and told ‘This is a young man’s game.”

The team then proceeded to sign Mike Peterson, age 32, as a replacement.

His anger with the current Falcons regime is understandable.

Brooking was a very solid player and a stellar teammate for many many years when he was at Coweta County High School, GT and the Atlanta Falcons…….all in the great state of Georgia. He was obviously bothered and upset when the new Atlanta Falcons brass decided to part ways and he acted like a fool (WAY out of character for him based on his ~20 years of football in Georgia) during the Dallas vs. Atlanta game; however, he has always been an emotional player and he let the situation get out of control. Give him a break based on many many years of previous proof that he is a high character and solid football player/teammate!!!!

KB gave many good years to the city including his college days. Most of the haters are mutt fans so what else would you expect from a bunch of perenial clowns.

Best wishes to KB and thanks for the great years. Falcon fan forever.

“I do remeber the playoff game where Brooking gibve up a 3rd and 32 pass for a 1st down. THE DA fell for the play fake!!!” ……………… what a moronic & ignorant statement.

NFL Network spent an entire segment showing without any shadow of a doubt that Keith Brooking was in the correct position and the Atlanta Falcons Safety was out of postion on the play Ken has referenced…..the safety vacated the area and was not in position to pick-up the receiver coming out of Brooking’s zone. I will admit the replay looked bad on TV for ignorant/uninformed fans.

If Brooking got the chance to re-play his antics from a few years ago — he would!!
No way he deserves a standing O.
The guy embarrassed the Falcons in that Dallas game & he’d do it again if given the opportunity.

So the game plan is easy. Throw quick passes in Pile Jumper’s area that he normally leaves vacant in order to be able to jump on the pile down field. He will have a loud mouth and be show boating and flapping arms again if they get ahead of us because he has no class. That’s why his jersey will never be retired in our house. Rise up.

KEITH BROOKING WAS A GREAT PLAYER, FOR THE FALCONS! LIKE ANY OTHER PLAYER, FATHER TIME HAS CAUGHT UP WITH HIM! ONE OF GA. TECH’S FINEST PLAYERS! FORMER TECH QB, IN THE EARLY ‘80′S, MIKE KELLEY, OT, DAVID LUTZ, EDDIE LEE IVORY AT RB, PAT SWILLING, CALVIN JOHNSON, ETC., ARE A FEW GA. TECH PLAYERS, THAT I CAN RECALL! OH, BY THE WAY, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO EX-TECH RB, ROBERT LAVETTE?

Even going back to his days at Tech, I had been a KB fan until he showed his @$$ when he left here. I lost every bit of respect I had for him after that. The playoff game a few years back where the Vikings just beat the brakes off him and the Cowboys is easily in the top 5 of most enjoyable games I’ve watched in the 5+ years.

Brooking was one of the best LBs to play for the Falcons when he was in his prime.

When the current regime came in, he was well past his best days and well into his “not so good” days. He felt that he should be paid like he was still performing at a high level, which he wasn’t. We needed to get younger, so we did. End of story.

Except, Brooking took it personally and made an a$$ out of himself when Dallas played Atlanta that year. Fans didn’t like it and that was the last memory we had of him….not a good one.

Now he just looks like a severely retarded version of Sylvester Stallone in the first “Rocky” movie.

I could care less about him being here, but I hope Turner or Quizz trucks his a$$ on a run.

I tried to stay away from commenting on this but I could’n resist. This can is a habitual pile jumper. More so, I didn’t care how he showed his azz whe the Birds played the Cowgirls. How he remains in the Not For Long league, puzzles the hell out of me. It would be nice to see him get knocked on his backside if he gets in the game.

Please let this be the game that Turner has the Burner working and he drives his helmet in Brookings chest! If you do anything for us Turner do it now! I want to see Brooking put on his backside for his bragging ways from that Dallas game. I would have had no problem with the pilejumper if he acted that way when he played with the Falcons but he always talked the game of respect your opponent when he was here but the minute he got to rub it in………..he rubbed it in! He also rubbed his way out of any respect from Falcons Nation when he did that! We dont forget easy Brooking so we hope you get a two piece thigh from Turner and some jam from Quizz to shake you out your socks! O yea Tony G. got something for you also so open up!

Brooking will be cheered? DOL, you’ve lost your mind. We TRUE Falcon fans still have that in the back of our minds……..I threw a glass across the room when he did that. Thankfully, I was home alone. Lord knows if he played for Georgia and did something similar against the “wonderful” Dogs, y’all would go on and on and on and on.

After the 3rd and 16, they should have left him in Arizona. Instead, the forever-classy Arthur Blank gave him a going-away press conference. How many players get press conferences when they are released? I will boo him the only time his name is heard all night (pre-game).

Brooking lost me when he acted like a big baby for the Cowpokes. Players always rant about “its just business” when they want to leave. But, when their pansy butts get booted they whine like little girls.

Good riddance, Brooking.
