Falcons coach Mike Smith
On the game: It’s always nice to get a win in your first game of the season. …I really felt that we came out very quickly and strongly on offense. I think it took us a while to get going on defense.
On halftime adjustments: We made some, I thought, some very good adjustments on the defensive side of the ball at halftime. It took us a while to gel. It was a nice job.
On Matt Ryan: Matt has played some really good games for us in his four years here. This might be the best game that he played. It was a great start to the season.
Tight end Michael Palmer
On the offense: “We were ready to play. We were ready to play a full game and we made it pretty obvious that we were ready by going out there and putting drives together and going all the way down the field and converting on third downs.”
Wide receiver Julio Jones
On his fast start: “If you are going to single me, we just try to take the matchups. You can’t double all three of us. They started out doubling Tony [Gonzalez] and Roddy [White], so I had the one-on-one. I had to step up and make plays. Then later on, they started doubling me and rolling to me and you could see Roddy start catching balls and Tony as well.
Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon
On Abraham’s sack-strip: That was awesome. That was one of the biggest plays of the game. After that, the offense put one in there again and we were back on the field and trying to get off.
Tight end Tony Gonzalez
On the fans of Kansas City: Nothing is better than a Kansas City Chiefs fan. There are so many of them and they are just diehards. It was a great feeling coming home like this.
On the offense scoring on eight straight possessions: I think that just shows how good of an offense that we can be with the way Matt Ryan was slinging that ball around. It’s tough to defend.
Quarterback Matt Ryan
On the win: It was a big win for us today. It’s always good start out the season with a win and to start fast and I think we did that. Our offensive line played really well. The wide receivers and tight ends had a good day. We had a little bit of success running the ball, too. It was pretty efficient. I think we wanted to start fast and we wanted to score touchdowns. We did a pretty good job of that.
Defensive end John Abraham
On the defense’s slow start: We came out real slow, real sluggish at the beginning of game. We gave them a lot of confidence. We came into halftime talking to each other and said that this is not the kind of defense we are. We came to play our defense [in the second half] causing turnovers. We made some plays when we had to and we didn’t miss tackles. We just can’t start a game like that every week.

Offense looked great in the passing game. 1st half tackling and D in general had me worried. I hope Gimey’s injury wasn’t too serious. Spoonman was everywhere today

Stephan Nicholas was the unsung hero of the game. It looks like Mike Nolan’s scheme fits him well. I think him and Spoon will be making a lot of big plays for the defense this year!

Darn right, Justin! Nicholas was a monster yesterday – 12 tackles, fumble, pick, and two deflections. If he keeps playing like this it bodes well for the Falcons’ D!

Great start! Corners were playing awfully loose in the first half and their receivers were way too open. Need a better start next Monday on defense or offense will be trying to play catchup whole game. How many plays did Dent participate in? I really did not notice him until late in the game and he had no tackles.

If Michael Turner doesn’t want to run next week, let Snelling, Rodgers, and antone Smith get some carries. We will need to run the ball against Denver to slow down the pass rush and get our play action game going.

By the way, what a difference a new offensive coordinator makes.
1. Pass on 1st down
2. Used Jacquizz early
3. Ran formations to get receivers open
4. Took the reigns off of Ryan (the dude showed fire!!!)
5. Got Harry involved.
Mike Nolan made adjustments at halftime and shut K.C. down in the second half. When did clown Van Gorder ever do that? Never!!
