Falcons wide receiver Drew Davis shares a laugh with Smith after leveling him. CURTIS COMPTON / CCOMPTON@AJC.COM
The Falcons filled out their practice squad by signing tight end Chase Coffman, safety Mark LeGree and linebacker Pat Schiller on Sunday.
Coffman, a former third round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, spent part of training camp with the Falcons.

Schiller, who was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent from Northern Illinois, was in camp with the Falcons. He led the team with eight tackles against Jacksonville in the exhibition season finale.
LeGree was selected by Seattle in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. He has also spent time Chicago, Arizona, San Francisco and the New York Jets.
PREVIOUS UPDATE
The Falcons added five players to the practice squad on Saturday.
Wide receiver Drew Davis, tackle Bryce Harris, wide receiver Marcus Jackson, cornerback Peyton Thompson, and defensive tackle Micanor Regis round out the practice squad. The Falcons left room to add three more players.
PREVIOUS POST
Wide receiver Drew Davis and offensive tackle Bryce Harris have cleared waivers and are expected to be signed and added to the Falcons practice squad later today. We’ll update the file as hear the players and their representatives.
The Falcons are still evaluating wide receiver James Rodgers, linebackers Jerrell Harris and Rico Council.
Davis nearly earned a spot on the 53-man roster.
Behind Roddy White, Julio Jones and Harry Douglas, Davis was battling Kevin Cone, Tim Toone and Kerry Meier for the final spots. The team elected to carry five wide receivers.
Meier was waived/injured and Davis was placed on waivers.
Falcons coach Mike Smith praised Davis’ game against the Ravens in the opener, both offensively and on special teams. Davis had a tackle and an assist on punt coverage, including a big hit along the Falcons sideline.
Smith said Cone had the upper hand coming into camp because he saw game action on special teams at the end of last season.
Harris is part of the new mold of athletic and bigger offensive linemen that the Falcons started signing this offseason. He is 6-6, 300 pounds and was selected to the All-WAC first team by the league coaches and named to Phil Steele’s All-WAC first team after starting in all 13 games at left tackle as a senior at Fresno State.
After trimming the active roster down to 53, the Falcons could start adding players to the practice squad today at 12 noon.

Not shocked Franks was released. To be honest neither Chris Owens or D. Franks have shown much improvement since being drafted.
I imagine we will be looking for corner help elsewhere as well as an additional receiver.
A couple of names that made the 53 man roster could be released later should better opitions come available from other teams scrap heaps.

Hopefully we can ditch Owens soon, too. Guy is near useless. I am SO ready for next Sunday. Hope our team is too–I just have to sit on the couch!

Franks has shown way more potential & improvement than Owens has!!! We made the wrog call on that one & we shouldn’t have Douglas returning punts! He’s fragile & that’s to significant of an injury especially now that we cut Meier & let Weems go this offseason so we’re unproven at our # 4 wr, so if Douglas goes down that’s significant!

I am wondering if Owens showed something in practice. The only thing I can think of is Owens may be better in Man Coverage vs Zone. We got burnt alot so I hope we have the best guys.

Pipedream I know, but I wish we could get Ovie back.
Also, Eric Bakhtiari, outside LB, got cut by the 49ers. He was solid in the preseason. Might look into him.

Is there not anyone out there to pick up to replace Owens? How do you like the idea of Owens (with or without bad hamstring) against Aaron Rogers in the playoffs again. Let’s pick up some players to replace any 3rd stringers which proved not equal to other team 3rd stringers during pre-season games.

I believe they kept Owens over franks bc Owens is more of a man player then a zone player and he fits better in mike nolans scheme

Dude we have roddy white and julio jones if douglas goes down im certain one of the other two can make enough of an impact to take his place without skipping a beat we have so many weapons right now our third reciever should be the least of our worries i think our worries shoulb be on this o line not our third reciever meier was not any better than cone or toone give these uninjured rookies a chance dont knock them when u dont kno wat their capable of we have the insurance of two super recievers and the big man gonzalez to worry about a number three four or five reciever
