FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons quarterback Dominique Davis was officially moved to the No. 3 spot behind Matt Ryan and Chris Redman in the final “unofficial” depth chart for the exhibition season that was released by the team on Monday.

Luke McCown has since been added to the roster and the team has released Redman. We are going to slot McCown, the veteran, as the No. 2 quarterback.

The Falcons (1-2) face former offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey and the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at EverBank Field.

Rookie left tackle Lamar Holmes, who made his NFL debut against the Miami Dolphins, is listed as the No. 2 left tackle behind Sam Baker and the No. 3 right tackle behind Tyson Clabo and Mike Johnson.

Holmes played well against the Dolphins.

“I thought Lamar, for his first time out there, did a nice job,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “He’s going to get extended playing time this week.”

Rookie Peter Konz saw some action with the first-team against Miami, but is still listed No. 2 behind Garrett Reynolds at right guard.

Dunta Robinson is listed as the starting right cornerback and Brent Grimes is listed as the starter on the left side. Asante Samuel, who is listed behind Robinson, was also introduced as a starter at the last home game.

One more question, I just got back from Mexico and didn’t watch the game until last night. I thought the defense looked great and i loved seeing our cornerbacks up on the line to defend the pass instead of laying 10 yards back. On Offense, everybody looked good enough to beat the Dolphins but looked a little flat. Was the long pass to Julio a designed jump ball play or was it just under thrown? Seen, I know what your going to say so don’t comment. DLed???

D-Led, our o-line draft picks have not been very good in the last couple of drafts. They may have finally gotten it right this past year with Holmes and Konz. Can you please ask Coach Hill or Smith why are we drafting All-American Guards(Johnson) and putting them at tackle and why we have a right tackle(Reynolds) playing guard? Clabo has been struggling, so give Reynolds his so called open competition. Also, is Konz or Hawley the heir to McClure? Just with all these problems on the o-line, you would think they would put them at their natrual postion. Just saying…….

I’m thinking 10 – 6 or 11 – 5 at best this year……

….unless we’re holding something back during these ‘exhibition games’.

I was pleasantly surprised by Holmes in his first NFL appearance. He is pretty tough to get around and exhibited amazing speed off the ball for a man of his size. I know he has a ways to go but it would sure be nice to have a road grader as well as a pass blocker at left tackle. I hope we get to see Holms’ downfield blocking on a few bubble screens. I’d love to see the O-Line move the defense back about three feet off the line of scrimage on those run plays for a change. Holmes and Konz just might help make that happen eventually. The defense still seems to be winning these battles. Pass blocking has improved for certain. Looks like we will see Douglas returning punts. It will be good to watch Travian Robertson for more reps too. So far, I like what I see with him. He disrupts offenses and that is a good thing. GO FALCONS!

Cut Redman. We do not need 3 QBs on the roster. Dominique can continue to learn the playbook throughout the season. If the time comes, he will be ready.

Paranoid Android……..Don’t know of any team that does not have 3 qb’s on the roster, but there may be an exception that I am unaware. It seems to me there is some roster rule that covers the 3rd qb but I can’t remember what it is. It also may not be a rule provision any longer. Anbody know?

REDMAN IS LAZY AND OVERPAID, I HAVEN’T SEEN HIM DO ANYTHING IN THE PRESEASON THAT EARNS HIM NO.2 SPOT…DAVIS WILL BE NO.2 NEXT YEAR COUNT ON THAT!
LET SEE HOW DAVIS PLAYS THIS WEEK SINCE HE WILL HAVE MORE PLAYING TIME SINCE JPW IS GONE NOW…

Kind of pumped to see Vance Walker, Peria Jerry and Travian Robertson get shots at good playing time.

I think they will be OK at DT until Peters gets back but we definately miss the big guy.

Hope to see more out of Edwards this year. Excited about 71 being more agressive than in years past.

The 3rd QB is an emergency position. Basically you get 45 dressed players and 8 inactives for a game.

The 3rd QB is typically inactive and the top 2 QB’s are active. If the 3rd QB comes in prior to the 4th quarter, the other 2 QB’s cannot return to the game.

I wonder if MM will through a curve ball at us by mixing up the plays. I am not sure we can handle a pass on first and second down.

The Falcons have said all the right things in the media about MM but let’s be clear, MM was on his way out before accepting the Jags HC position. Roddy and others were glad to see him go. I’m sure he’s heard some talk about it. Maybe he tries to get a moral preseason victory and game plan for us.

This jaguars team was descent against the aints but im certain any ✌curve balls✌ mm throws at us our defense can handle im guessing ryan and the starters will play a possesion or two and sit out the rest of the game hopefully davis will be put in ahead of redman so we can actually win the game with our second and third stringers it would be nice to see how well davis handles a first string defense get him ready for some real action in case hes needed due to crappy line play still not sure about reynolds and baker but ill give them a chance

I really hope we keep Peyton Thompson. He is a natural covet corner who has done nothing but make plays since he’s been in camp. And per Dled’s answer to Nique’s question, there is no way Massoquoi gets cut and put through waivers. He has rare pass rushing potential, and he would never clear the waiver wire to get to the practice squad. Les Snead would snatch him up in the blink of an eye. This would be a monumental blunder and a total waste of a 5th rd draft pick. Cliff Matthews is headed back to the practice squad.

Thanks for the years of service Micheal Turner, but I am so ready for the Jacquizz Rodgers train to leave the station. Turner hasn’t just lost a step, he has the first step of a beached whale. He didn’t want to put the cheeseburger down, so Dirk sit his fat butt on the bench!

I have lots of positive things to say but only time for one that is dear to my heart. I really hope that the organization keeps the Rodgers brothers playing together on the same team. They’ve played for the same team I believe dating back to Pop Warner days, and I’ll be damned if my Falcons are the ones to break that tradition. For this season, he looks good enough to make the practice squad, and that’s all it takes. It will make a strong statement that the Falcons stand for family and tradition, and it may make Jaquizz better – we don’t know what effect cutting James would have on Jaquizz, because its never happened before. Also, James is coming off of an injury, and we need to take that into account when we decide who we want to claim for our organization by putting them on the practice squad. Amen.

Turner has always lost a step but gets the job done better than any back on the team. Im sorry but I will have to see what Rodgers will do with 25 carries against a decent defense before I am sold on what he can do in the NFL. Turner has NEVER hit the hole quick, but he has a knack for getting across the line and is not as easy to tackle as it looks. I have never been impressed by watching Turner hit the line but he gets results no matter how he looks while hes doing it. He hasnt been stopped yet and until he is, Rodgers has to take it and so far he hasnt. Got to have a big back too for short yardage line up and pound it when they know it coming. Not just the Rodgers Runts….

Thanks Columbus, these people must be Rodgers cousin. He is OK but do you really think Rodgers is the back to take the Falcons to the Super Bowl?????? He is not quick like Darren SPOLES. He is a piece and a good one to have but TURNER is an ALL STAR and we have Snelling. I care if the Falcons make it to the SUPER BOWL I’m not so concerned to see a flashy offense at the expense of a playoff

@OB/DB I agree with you to an extent…..Turner isn’t washed up, and I think he showed it “in my best Stephen A. Smith voice” CLEELY, had a good game last week, getting Jsnelling back will help, and for the record, the blocking for the run game hasn’t exactly looked all that great(aside from our 3rd string opening up lanes for Smith against other future free agents)

Davis, should be the number #2 QB for this game, he has earn it. He should play the second and third QT”s. McCown has not been impressive with any team he has played for. (and their have been a few). he might be a nice safe gap for a few if Ryan get hurt early, but he is not a good long term back-up. DD could be a Starter in the NFL, The Falcon need to develop him.
