Atlanta Falcons: Falcons to play on sloppy track

Sun Life

The field and the lower bowl of Sun Life Stadium has been evacuated because of lightning. (D. Orlando Ledbetter/dledbetter@ajc.com)

MIAMI — Just as the Falcons were about to take the field for warmups it started raining heavily at Sun Life Stadium.

The bowl of the stadium was evacuated because lightning.

Falcons coach Mike Smith places a premium on not suffering injuries in the exhibition season.

This game was supposed to serve as the Falcons’ dress rehearsal for the season. Smith planned to play his starters well into the third quarter.

With a soaked field, the risk for injury is increased. It will interesting to see how the Falcons approach this game.

The team has 89 players on the roster and must cut down to 75 by Monday.

After the Miami game, the Falcons will play at Jacksonville on Aug. 30 in their exhibition season finale. The roster must be trimmed to 53 by Aug. 31.

The storm eventually stopped.

Around 6:30 p.m, about an hour before the schedule kickoff, the Falcons special teams players returned to the field to start warming up.

Cornerback Christopher Owens (hamstring), cornerback Darrin Walls (right quad), safety Shann Schillinger (foot), running back Jason Snelling (lower right leg), defensive tackle Elisha Joseph (concussion), left tackle Will Svitek (upper right arm), wide receiver Kerry Meier (foot) and defensive tackle Corey Peters (foot) will not play against the Dolphins.

I am a season ticket holder and I have renewed Preseason games do not mean a thing except to the younger players trying to make the team. I remember this Falcons team looking great one year during the preseason in Glanville’s tenure. They went 4-0. The city was behind them and then they won 4 games during the regular season. Just look at the preseason scores tonight. does anyone think Tampa Bay is better than New England?

After 16 years as a season ticket holder and $2400 a year for tickets and the poor choice for new coaches I said no more. Right now The Atlanta Falcons not worth my money.

Relax JSS….every team in the NFL has holes guy. If not teams would go undefeated. Did not mean to touch a nerve. If you dislike something, how about not having anything to do with it? Seems more simple than getting on a blog all night to show your displeasure. Seems like you are the sour guy and not Another Rick…seems like he is standing up for his team againat some bullys that want to announce displeasure for reasons that just don’t make sense. What you mentioned in your post is what every single team in the NFL does…..just seems you are a true Falcon basher…..and just for kicks Double D looks pretty good running this offense.

Similar to the Braves, the Falcon optimists come in before the games are played- Blank shows up to sell us a new $1B stadium- which WE will pay for (parking, hot dogs, ticket prices, taxes), and the announcers are slobbering all over it. FYI- the Falcon commercials don’t compel me to buy tickets. We’ve been had- again.

Man, don’t give me that crap, other teams see their holes and do concrete things about the situation… Green Bay hated their defense, they made “real” changes… Even the Giants saw it in 2010 and went and got a real punter who listened… You have to get it right, if not bad drafts and reaching on “injured players” will eventually catch up with you… Don’t believe me, ask KC and San Diego
