Matt Ryan passed for 174 yards and a touchdown before the Falcons’ backups lost to the Bengals, 24-19. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter broke down the Falcons’ performance.

When MR went out, he had just pulled his team into a tie from a 10-3 deficit.
He looked sharp, till he got into the red zone.

Four things. Davis will be our #2 QB this season. #2. You don’t have to worry about Samuels, he will hold his own. #3. Polite is probably our starting FB. #4. We need depth at the LB position.
Other than that, we will be just fine.

Just so I’m on the Record, Way to freaking work Matt Bosher! He’s a lot better on kickoffs this year. Finished strong punting last year.
I still don’t agree with the draft pick, I never will, but I’m glad he’s turning into a solid contributor we don’t have to think about.

Atlanta fans in every sport are notorious front runners. It is what it is in this city. You’ve never seen more brand new Laker/Heat fans in this city I guarantee it.
This town only fills stadiums when it’s a star they want to see or they are truely in a championship hunt. It’s who we are as a city. It is what it is. I’m not sure it’s a good or a bad thing really.
The sports teams in the city have barely been good enough for anyone to want to associate with.

That’s a real shame PMC, cause tonight’s Saints game will have the Mercedes Benz Superdome rocking and rolling. I would also bet that part of the reason that there were so many empty seats last night, is cause a lot of those season tickets are held by corporations, further diminishing and eroding the connection between the supposed fans and their teams.

Indeed Seen. The corporations used to buy more tickets than the do now, but usually the emptys in the city by the 2nd quarter or so are corporate seats, especially between the 20’s in the club level.
Yall have a really great fanbase in New Orleans. I wish ours was like that, but it isn’t. Plenty of us are passionate fans but the ticket money in this area goes primarily to college football.

I am a troll JSS and a Falcon one………is that a bad thing ? Ryan does look more relaxed out there so far this year than last year and has a better touch on his passes and seems to be more confident…it remains to be seen though in the next couple of games if this last going into opening season.
I do wish the team had another power running back on the roster……….Turner is getting worn out period ! Ohhh how I wish we had another Jamal Anderson as running back or a William Andrews type back but you have what you got at that position I suppose………………..and Santa , I would like to have a harley-davidson for christmas also….ha !

Its preaseason, trust me every game will be sold out. Why go downtown on a SCHOOL NIGHT to watch the preseason game? Just use common sense!

The Smart Season Ticket Holders say hey, I have to pay at least $100 per person for food, parking, beers, etc.. to go to the regular season game. They say why not save my money for that? Makes common good sense. I live in downtown Atlanta and this town ROCKS when the Falcons play at home. The streets are packed with fans. Thats the real deal and the real truth. Has nothing to do about being front runners, but has everything to do about the economy! When the season starts it is impossible to get up and down Northside Drive becasue of the tailgating and the partying going on pre and after game. I see it first hand! Just saying! Additionally, the downtown area is loaded around the CNN Center and Centennial Park! You guys find SOMETHING and I mean SOMETHING to bash the Falcons about. Cant bash the first string so now you go to the fans? The team is looking good and now its about bashing the fans instead of staying on subject ( The headline reads Matt Ryan solid) it does not say stadium empty on preseason game. Please if it is like this during the season by all means jump up and down and shut and bash, but I do recall each and EVERY ONE OF YOU who is now talking about the fans wanted to BASH Ryan only 3 weeks ago! Now that makes you a TROLL!

Rick I watched the game too but so was the Mrs. and even she noticed the empty stadium too……………………the Atlanta fan base is pitiful on turnout, guess they rather blow it on the lottery tickets instead, and the game was on national television also, which made it even worse.

Mike you are correct it was empty…..but its preseason guy! And to boot it was a school night! Which makes the cost of a babysitter to add in also! All I am saying is put things in prespective! We have a packed Georgia Dome since Matt Ryan has been here! Come on man. PRESPECTIVE! The Dome Field advantage will be in effect……like it always is!

Yours is an accurate summary. The biggest factor, however, likely is the meager ONE championship (’95 Braves) in 155 seasons of pro sports competition over nearly 50 years. That doesn’t give the fans much reason for enthusiasm–or hope.
WIN, and they will come.
