Vivlamore reporting from Flowery Branch for the great DLed, who is celebrating a “significant” birthday.
FLOWERY BRANCH — The Falcons just concluded Saturday’s walk-through practice. Not much to report but on the injury front middle linebacker Akeem Dent (concussion) and rookie fullback Bradie Ewing (knee) were not on the field. Ewing will officially be placed on injured reserve later today. We will get an update on Dent’s condition following the afternoon session. Being in the NFL’s concussion protocol program, expect Dent to miss at least Thursday’s home exhibition game against the Bengals.
Defensive linemen Vance Walker (foot) and Corey Peters (foot) and cornerback Christopher Owens (hamstring) remain out. Cornerback Asante Samuel and tight end Adam Nissley were not present and I will try for an update later. Running back Jason Snelling (lower right leg) was present and we’ll see if he participates in the practice later today. It also appeared that wide receiver Michael Calvin was held out of the walk-through.
Fans have two more chances to see the Falcons during training camp, today and Sunday. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. for today’s workout from 3:30 to 6:05 p.m. The schedule is the same for Sunday, the final day of camp that is open to the public.
Here are the updates following afternoon practice.
First-team middle linebacker Akeem Dent (concussion) missed practice after being placed in the initial stage of the NFL’s concussion protocol program. Falcons coach Mike Smith said it’s “too early to tell” how long Dent will be out. He will likely miss the second exhibition game against the Bengals Thursday.
Wide receiver Kerry Meier (leg) missed practice and worked with trainers. Defensive linemen Vance Walker (foot) and Corey Peters (foot), cornerback Christopher Owens (hamstring), running back Jason Snelling (lower right leg) remain out. Wide receiver Michael Calvin also did not practice.
Smith said Walker will be re-evaluated Sunday morning and hoped he could return to practice. Peters is still 10-14 days away from a medical re-evaluation.
Cornerback Asante Samuel was not at practice. Smith said he absence was excused and he would return Sunday.

I would keep Dent out until the last preseason game, and I would definitely keep him off special teams from now on… We need him out there.

Hey Hiramsaint – you do realize that this is ATLANTA, and that no one here G.A.S. about the Saints. You don’t see me going over and doubling the number of literate visitors to the New Orleans newspaper site trash talking the folks that couldn’t afford to leave after Katrina.
Go find a Saints blog so that you can run your mouth with the rest of your inbred Cajun brothers. Oh, and don’t be late for your shift at Popeyes tonight – I’m counting on a bucket of that chicken for our party tonight. GO FALCONS!!!!!

The Truth…………..Actually I was in New Orleans for several days recently and it was lively, the food just outstanding, and a blast for all, There was certainly no backwards georgia milk toast blue law that calls for last call at 2;30. I remember when Atlanta was fun and had a rocking nightlife some nearly 9 years ago or so. This city was much more fun when it had 2 million folks instead of the 6 million today that mostly are from somewhere else and usually not the south. New Orleans has a soul and a unique vibe and that’s something Atlanta doesn’t have. Sweep around your own porch first before knocking a city that you probably no little about except for it’s football team!

Oh yeah, let’s talk about injuries.
Mike Smith gets hit on the sideline. Gets back up and interviews. What does Sean Payton do? Walk around on crutches with a broken leg, personifying “the gipper.” LOL

It is not a matter of the Falcons having fair weather fans…..IT IS JUST THAT MANY OF US HAVE GOTTEN TIRED OF THE AJC CONTINUING TO ALLOW THE SAINTS FANS TO HIJACK THE FALCONS’ AJC BLOGS.
It’s the same people constantly and they continue to say the same thing over and over. They don’t really add anything meaningful to the discusson.
