Atlanta Falcons: Rico Council has homecoming

DALTON — It was pretty much a homecoming for Falcons linebacker Rico Council, an undrafted rookie free agent from Chattanooga and Tennessee State.

“Rico has worked very hard,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said. “He’s worked hard for us. Any undrafted free agent, the first thing that they need to do is impress our special teams coordinator. That is going to be the first place that they are going to play in a game this [exhibition season] and to me that’s where a guy like that has an opportunity to make it.”

We need good tacklers. I don’t want to see Chris Owens making multiple touchdown-saving tackles again. Great show of athleticism but I want intimidators on the special teams.

Mr Ledbetter,

Who are your camp surprises so far? Specifically, who is standing out that surprises you and who has been a disappointment?

Saints ran a bunch of screen plays at the HOF game, gotta go back and count them up, but it’ll be interesting to see how many screens the falcan’ts attempt Thursday night and how successful, or rather inept, they are with them.

“Camp fodder”

Jessie Tuggle was supposed to be camp fodder in 1987. Brent Grimes was also an UDFA. I doubt Rico ever comes close to being a Tuggle or a Grimes , but it’s a victory for him if he can make the practice squad and go on from there.

It’s always fun to root for underdogs, especially if they’re from your home town. I still feel let down that Cosy Pearcy and Chad Faulcon were cut so quickly.

Sooner or later “seen” everyone in the NFL catches up to your game plan! Ask Green Bay. The sooner is coming fast for the AINTS. They been running this offense for some time now. Teams have film. The Falcons have nowhere to go but up with installing the screen pass…………I think your team is in trouble……….as you said count how many times they ran the screen, I count one time to many! LOL.

@Second: The point being that your team wasn’t able to run a screen pass play with their personnel previously. So, yes, let’s see if your team has caught up to the Saints with respect to screen plays, cause I don’t think they have. AND if you don’t run any successful screens this Thursday, it will under score my point.

Rico Council has worked hard and long to get this chance. He may not be big time but he’s earned this shot. The kids got heart and power. Everyone’s got a story but this kids been through it and come out shining. Earned his degree in Psychology and now gets to live his dream and play in the NFL. Regardless of how it comes out in the end he’s made Chattanooga proud and has kept his values in the process. I wish him the best of luck who knows maybe just maybe he can find his nitch on this Falcons team.
