BY ANDREW WHITE
FLOWERY BRANCH – Punter Dawson Zimmeman, a local kid from Brookwood High who was signed as an undrafted free agent from Clemson, was a Falcons fan growing up.
“I was somewhat of a Falcons fan growing up, especially the team that went to the Super Bowl in the 90’s,” Zimmerman said.
He has to be considered a longshot to make the team after the Falcons drafted Matt Bosher last season and he turned in a solid rookie season.
But Zimmerman gets a chance in a couple of preseason games, perhaps another team will take notice.
Ironically, Zimmerman because supporter in training camp has been tight end Michael Palmer, a Parkview and Clemson grad.
“We have a great relationship, he actually showed me around on a recruiting visit at Clemson, and got me started with the Falcons,” Zimmerman said.
Playing under coach Dabo Sweeney was one of Zimmerman’s collegiate highlights.
“Coach Sweeney is a great guy with a lot of energy.” Zimmerman said.
At Brookwood, he helped the Broncos to three region championships and a state championship appearance against Lowndes in 2005 as sophomore. He was also named first-team all-state punter by The Atlanta Journal- Constitution.
“I just always liked to kick a ball,” Zimmerman said.
Mr. White is a senior at Cumberland Christian Academy.

After struggling out of the gate, Bosher improved as much as any player on the Team last year.
Unfortunately, He’s the Punter!!

awww…………..that 1998 Team with Chris and Jamal ……….I read a story and it stated that Chandler was for that year on top of his game. To beat the 15-1 Vikings and play in the Superbowl was indeed one of the most awesome moments in Falcons history.
Nobody would have thought it though going through that season. !

Maybe they should carry two punters, after all, with the amount of punting the falcan’ts do, they could wear out Bosher by mid-season.

Punter? Really? We DRAFTED a punter last year which makes no sense.
I am going to the Falcons/Titans scrimmage in my hometown tonight. I’m sure we will get to see our 2nd round undrafted punter. Woohoo!
Superbowl bound due to our Brookwood High punter!

Since the Falcons punter is also responsible for kick-offs, if Zimmerman can consistantly kick the ball into the end zone on kick-offs (which Bosher can’t do) and can consistantly kick great punts, then he gets my support over Bosher (for what it’s worth!!!!)

Thanks for the article!
This guy is a great athlete- shoots a jump shot 2 feet off the floor, is fast, can tackle and can also fill in for kickoffs. if not the falcons he has a place in the NFL. He is also a fantastic actor, smart- really smart and one of the best people you will ever meet.
I usually just read but....

He could be the neighborhood watchman if he doesn’t make the team.
