CARTERSVILLE — On the way to Dalton, I received the email from the Falcons previewing Thursday’s game against Baltimore.

I peeled some rubber and pulled off I-75. I found the McDonalds/Pilot Gas/Wal-mart/Winn-Dixie and Hotel. (They take one-stop shopping pretty seriously!) This is a big day for us because the team’s first depth chart is in the 222-page release. (They call it an “unofficial depth chart,” but it’s pretty official if it’s in the 222-page release.)

There are more than a few surprises.

On the first-team offense you’ll find Sam Baker at left tackle, Garrett Reynolds at right guard and Mike Cox at fullback. The Falcons promised a full and open competition along the line, but it’s the same group that opened the season in the Chicago last year. Garrett Reynolds has looked good and is moving well in tight spaces.

On defense, Asante Samuel is listed on the second-team behind Dunta Robinson at right cornerback. Also, it appears that Corey Peters has lost his spot to a foot injury. Peria Jerry is listed as one of the No. 1 defensive tackles alongside of Jonathan Babineaux. Peters is about two more weeks away from returning.

Also, Jacquizz Rodgers is listed as the No. 1 kickoff returner and Harry Douglas as the No. 1 punt returner.

Enjoy!

(About to get back on I-75 and finish driving to Dalton. If you’re driving up, abide by the speed limit. I saw the state troopers pull over two cars. One Red Impala was trying to fly. I’m sure he’ll get a ticket for having jet fuel in his Impala.)

If they wasn’t worried about the Atlanta Falcons you would never see em on the blog in the first place after watching highlights of the hall of fame game, the Aints team wasn’t too impressive. No wonder they are worried about the Falcons !
Last year they won the NFC South and this year it is all bout the Falcons……………welcome back to reality boys !

I’ve always said, that the falcan’t fans look at the world through rose colored glasses, till after they get beat by the Saints, then they rip their team apart for losing to the Saints. Now, you got bozos declaring the Saints didn’t look good at the HOFs, even though the Saints #1s mowed through the Arizona #1s, like they weren’t even there.
The NFL treated the Saints like a sacraficial lamb this spring, so, in retribution, this fall the Saints will avenge themselves by scalping their opponents. The sooner the falcan’ts start dealing with that reality, the sooner they can start to position themselves for a wildcard-round EXIT from the playoffs, again.

Go back in history over the South Division and deny the fact that never has any one of the Teams succeeded in retaining the Title in a repeat of the following year and out of the other three besides your team the Atlanta Falcons have the edge on winning the division this year but seeing how it is with your mind I keep forgetting the fact that your team will win the South, the NFC title and the Superbowl this year in New Orleans………………..thats a Dream Come True for you but the odds of that happening is like Madonna looking like Marilyn Monroe.

I want to know who was so hot and heavy to use a precious 3rd round pick on Lamar Holmes? He was clearly projected to go no higher then 5th-6th round and he had an injury?????? I hope this doesn’t come back to haunt TD. I don’t like the feel of it, I’m sure TD will try and make it right but they passed up some STUDS to go for Holmes.

No surprises with the DC….except maybe Dunta starting over Asante.
We are deep at Corner. Franks, Walls & even Owens(for his hustle on special teams) give us lots of options.
We are also deep on the OL — IF some of these guys step up!! Our 2 deep @ the OL position are full of experienced players & players we’ve drafted.
I hope Tony G doesn’t get hurt. It looks a little slim behind the Hall of Famer @ TE

For what it’s worth Garrett Reynolds looks much more ready and confident to be a guard this year than he did last year at practice anyway.

I see Reynolds at Guard and not tackle. Lets see how he does. I like to see Marty markett at punt and kickoff return. I think he is faster than Rodgers. We need speedsters to get it cracking up field. He said he runs a 10.2 in the 100 meters.

TD has done a good job drafting. The Falcons first ever draft, nobody made the team out of training camp from the draft. Not good for job longevity if that happened in todays NFL.

Reynolds played Tackle in college. Let him remain there. The Falcons have got to give up this cross training crappy idea of theirs. There is too much talent coming out of college with players who have both experience and skill to be trying to change a guy to a position he hasn’t played in 3-4 years of college and 2 or more years in High School. If cross training is such a great idea, why aren’t more teams doing it? Help players succeed by ensuring they can do one thing and do it exceptionally.

Sam Baker at LT (I prefer a stud free agent LT if a solid player becomes available prior to the first regular season game)

Justin Blalock at LG

Todd McClure at C

Peter Konz at RT

Tyson Clabo at RT

If we do not get lucky and sign a starting caliber LT………Reynolds, Svitek, Hawley, Johnson & Lamar Holmes survive as reserve players (the only reason Lamar Holmes makes the team is because TD reached for him in the draft and he feels obligated to give him every opportunity to develop; Holmes might very well end up on the practice squad ==> I do not expect any other team would sign him to the active roster so he would be pretty safe there. For the record, I sincerely hope Lamar Holmes turns out being a steller LT sometime soon or even in the near future!)

BTW…….I think OL is the most critical group of players on ANY football team {probably more important than the QB position; unless the team has a completely inept QB of course. The Falcons are set with Matt Ryan (a VERY good QB)}.

SEENTHISB4-Let’s talk about last yrs SORRIER THAN SORRY 30th ranked pass DEF and 24th ranked overall DEF. Let’s also talk about how that SORRIER THAN SORRY DEF will do this yr without MLB JVilma, your best CB(TPorter), your best OLB, and your depth at DT.

You have got to be one delusional AINT/TAINT fan to believe any of your replacements are better than the players they replaced, especially MLB CLofton, OG BGrubbs, and whoever replaces CB TPorter, WR RMeachum, or OG CNicks. The AINTS/TAINTS have done absolutely nothing to improve themselves. Everything they’ve done has been designed to limit their decline, at best.

And how stupid, moronic, and anal minded must an AINT/TAINT fan be to believe that your lowlife AINTS/TAINTS are being victimized by the NFL for being proven guilty of instituting and managing a vile and reprehensible BOUNTY PROGRAM? You can drop that US AGAINST THE WORLD crap, because you’re organization is headed for a steep decline, and it starts this season.
