BIRDLAND — Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, in an apparent snub by NFL players, apparently has not made the league’s popular Top 100 list.

The Top 10 players of last season will be revealed tonight at 8 p.m. on the NFL Network.

Host Lindsay Rhodes will be joined by NFL Network analysts Warren Sapp and Marshall Faulk to recap the 90 players that have been revealed thus far and discuss who will be tabbed the best player in the NFL.

The list – which has Tim Tebow rated 95th and Peyton Manning rated 50th even though he didn’t play last season — was voted on by the players themselves.

Running back Michael Turner (88), wide receiver Roddy White (65) and tight end Tony Gonzalez are the only Falcons already named. White was not real pleased with his selection, either.

Despite throwing for a franchise-record 4,153 yards last season and guiding the Falcons to the playoffs for the second consecutive season for the first time in franchise history, Ryan apparently has not made the

I’m not the biggest Ryan fan in the world, but he shouldn’t be excluded from a list that includes Joe Flacco and Tim Tebow. That’s ridiculous.

I think Ryan is a top-100 player.

This snub isn’t far fetched from the National Media. Think about it, MT33 ranked 88th, and he was the 3rd ranked RB in yards for the 2011 season. Like the National Media, league players have a negative view point of the Falcons, and you cant blame them when you look back on the way the team played in the playoffs for the last couple years. MR2 should use this as motivation for the upcoming season. In the end, the only accolade that matters is the Lombardi Trophy, everything else are milestone setters. The Falcons need to RISE UP in 2012 and Take their Respect!!

Last year was his “senior” year, and he still has a noodle arm. He has Julio, Roddy and three more guys, and he can’t stretch the field.
I’ll go along with blaming Mularkey with anyone else who wants to, and I already paid for my season tix.
But Matty is on thin ice. I don’t want to hear anything about a new OC or system because all reports are that he is Koetter is basically keeping the same play book but will call it more aggressively.
This year we’ll find out if the folks who said Mularkey was protecting Ryan with his one-dimensional play-calling were right.

Has Matt Ryan won a playoff game? I support the guy but he’s only a future HoF’er in the hearts of the Atlanta sports media and Falcons franchise. When he wins a big playoff game he’ll get more respect. It’s not a snub when it’s a fair assessment.

First, I’m surprised by the snubbing.

I would personally place Ryan ahead of Flacco and Tebo, but not ahead of any other quarterback on the list in terms of expected 2012 performance. At the same time, however, when it comes to play-offs these two guys have far exceeded Ryan ’s sub-par performance. So I think not having Ryan on the Top 100 can easily be justified.

Let’s take away this reason in 2012!!!

Matt Ryan is intelligent enough to know that not winning this stupid popularity contest means nothing. The fact that a player that didn’t even play last year is ranked 50th proves that there is no validity to it. And for those of you that have nothing better to do than come on here and bash Mr Ledbetter, shame on you and your mother for not teaching you if you don’t have something nice to say shut up and go back to the Aints blogs where all the other thugs are.

Tebow making the list tells you just how much this whole thing actually means LOL. Asante Samuels is not on the list but Nnamdi is? LMAO! This list is complete BS. I kinda like the fact that Falcons were snubbed and some are upset by where they were ranked. Hopefully guys can rally together and put together a playoff run. Guys can stop dropping footballs and guys can start standing tall in the pocket and play like franchise quality football players.

I mean you do realize that there are 32 NFL teams with 22 starters plus kicker, punter, and return specialists who are up for consideration. So out of roughly 800 players worth considering (starting impact players) Ryan isn’t considered in the Top 100 and that’s a bad thing? Really? I mean the poll does have its flaws but even considering the pecking order for just the Falcons players it’s spot on.

Tony > Roddy > Michael (I’d follow with John Abraham then a toss up between Ryan and Weatherspoon).

WOW! This is REALLY interesting. You mean to tell me that our QB is not considered in the top 100 and no better than Tim Tebow or Cam Newton???

I think folks in the league have seen what we are beginning to see…too many weapons and too much talent to play as lethargic as he does. Since his rookie year, Matt has played with minimum mojo, kept it safe 95% of the time, and has come off as being “scared” in big games.

Anyone remember the very first pass he threw in the playoff game against Green Bay? If not, go back and take a look. Indicative.

I’m not saying that #2 has reached his potential. Nope, he can be coached up. However, I’m not so sure that Blank, Dimitroff and this new guy will take that approach. Put another way…Bill Parcells would light a fire so hot under Matt’s arse that he would be a better player by midseason. Of 2012!

I just don’t know if we demand excellence in that way…the way to the Super Bowl.

BSG3003 – Before Matt Ryan got to Atlanta, you had a running back taking snaps. In that context – you now have a QB who actually passes – it isn’t hard to see someone breaking franchise passing records.

Look at the comments here from Falcons fans. From season ticket holders. They are prepared to give Ryan two years, three at the most, under this new offense regime. If he doesn’t succeed then, after six years running Atlanta into mediocrity, who is going to snap him up to be their starting quarterback? No one, that is who. And that is why Matt Ryan will be a backup quarterback in three years.

First of all, the list is not meant to be a top 100 for last year as stated in the article. I’m not trying to go in on you like @Rut but the list is a prospective look of the top 100 players for next season (2012), as determined by the players. Obviously, last years performance would be an indication of future performance but . . . I’m just sayin’

Second of all, the list is more than a little bit suspect anyway. No way Tebow should be on the list.

Third of all, suspect or not, Matt Ryan doesn’t belong on the list. Get over yourselves Falcons fans.

Oh, and to @Wyatt Earp. Ray Lewis was never, ever even accused of being the person who stabbed anyone. Get your facts straight. all in all, it’s about winning games. there are no lombardi trophies for nice guys, philanthropist, tv commercials, habit homes, and the like…these are all GREAT things to do, but in the NFL, winning is the bottom line. reminds me of a dog my pappy had..he was smart, fit and healthy, but he couldn’t flush a bird if you tossed him on top of it. As a dog, he was tops. but he couldn’t do the job. a qb that can’t convert on 4th and inches? an oc that won’t even call plays that try? ok, maybe the o line is lacking, but come on, a qb is the master of the ship. i say we’ll spend this season bailing out the boat, not dancing in the endzone….

If you guys were not so blind you would notice that Turner’s production is slowly eroding, and coincidentally so has Ryan’s failures in the playoffs. Turner has been a work horse and now it’s breaking down his body.

The NFL and the media tried to build Ryan as the second coming of Peyton, but he national media has seen they were more angry at the previous qb in Atlanta than they were in really thinking Ryan was anything more than a game manager.

A HOF TE was brought in, a big powerful runner was brought in, traded the draft for Julio (when the QB before Ryan was told time and time again that an elite WR in the 1st round was out of the question), moving up in the draft to pick quality O-linemen and adding more offensive weapons every year, and he still can’t lead the team to a playoff win. The Falcons fan base have what they wanted and mediocre QB that looks the part.

Matt Ryan has not been given “every weapon by Falcons management”

To his credit, they did the same thing under Vick.

Plenty of amazing skill players, that’s not an issue it’s almost never been an issue.

About half of the offensive linemen that had jobs last year with this team DON’T belong in the NFL.

Baker and Reynolds were abysmal. Mike Johnson never showed up. Even the decent players weren’t great.

This team rarely wins, because they rarely employ linemen playing in a scheme worth a darn when they have a QB capable of winning anything.

45 years of GM mistakes or coaching mistakes or bad draft picks.

Matt Ryan is a decent NFL QB, He’s been very good. Most NFL players are morons, proof of the fact that they put Tim Tebow in the top 100 (went from QB to Special Teams). Cam Newton’s team went 6-10 and the Cowboys have been hot garbage in the playoffs since 1996.

For that matter tell me when Devin Hester becomes a viable anything other than kick returner.

NFL players can’t even be trusted to read their own union deal, how could they know who the best 100 in thier own league would be?

This is the part that is very important. THIS LIST WAS VOTED ON BY THE PLAYERS. Players obviously have realized that Matt Ryan is not all that he is cracked up to be. The guy can’t throw the ball deep. Even Tim Tebow can do that. Matt has probably one of the best receiving corps in the league, and cant throw the ball down the field. The Falcons rushing offense was Top 5 for like 3 straight seasons wasn’t it? In 2011 we decide to go Air Falcons and you see the drop off. The Falcons recent success has been built on the running game to open up the pass. Now that we’re trying to go pass to open up the run it just isn’t working against quality defenses.

Romo is a far bigger bust in late season and playoff games than Ryan. And what has Stafford or Newton won?? NOTHING. That criteria is nearly insignificant when voting on Top 100 players.

The simple fact is this list is a popularity contest voted on by the players, so it’s going to have weird anomalies and glaring omissions. Nothing to read into it at all. Ryan is probably the 10th or 11th best QB in the league and the 50th-60th best player. None of that matters in the end if our team can’t come together and WIN this year.

Again, I’ll restate that I’m not a big Ryan fan, but he has a 43-19 record has a starter. Over the last two years, he has a 57-21 TD-INT ratio. Those are pretty solid facts,

I’d probably put him in the 75-90 range. Not elite, but good. The lack of postseason wins keeps him from being higher, but it shouldn’t bump him off the list completely when, as others have noted, there are other QB’s on the list who have also not won playoff games.

I do not care about stats. I am a Falcons fan who wants to see the Falcons win a Super Bowl. Comparing Ryan to Eli Manning is laughable because Eli has 2 SB championships and didn’t ride coat tails to win them. His play in the postseason was equally as important as the entire defensive unit in winning those titles. To be frank, Ryan doesn’t even need to win the Super Bowl as a Falcons but he does need to regularly win playoff games to earn the level of respect you guys desire.

Is it more important to you to pound chest of Ryan’s stats while the Falcons fall short or have Ryan post modest stats and have the Falcons win? The Falcons need to reload their running game if they want to get back on track. If you want to see what happens to teams who depend too much on the passing game look at the Patriots lately, and Ryan is not even close to Brady.

I know Manning has two SB rings I am just saying that the stats are comparable. All Matt Ryan needs is time the Falcons are on the right path!! I mean Marino and Kelly never won a Super Bowl were they not elite!! So judging by this Trent Dilfer would be elite!! NOT!!

Ryan got snubbed because he came in and did more for the falcons two years then Vick did his entire career in atl. I hear it all the time fans in the seats saying we need Vick back. Winning playoff games doesn’t have anything to do with it tony romo is on the list only been to the playoffs once since he took over for the cowboys.

The Falcons got a roster full of underrated players. Matt Ryan should of most definitely made the list and even tho he hasn’t won his first playoff game, HE STILL MADE THE PLAYOFFS! Sean Weatherspoon didn’t make the list either and Roddy and Tony didn’t rank high. Only way the Falcons is gonna get respected is by winning the super bowl. They’ll still get disrespected even when they win the first playoff game cause after that they’ll be expected to go to the super bowl, blah blah blah, so much for the falcons to accomplish. They will make a superbowl run next season, watch.

Since when are 4,000 yards and nearly 30 TD’s shoddy stats. Not to mention the fact that he has led the team to 4 winning seasons and 3 playoff appearances. Remember, this is a team that had NEVER has consecutive winning seasons. How short your memories are. Shame on all you Atlanta fans. How many of the QBs above him has he outplayed? Someone make me one compelling arguement for Tony Romo over Matt Ryan.

Let’s stop this madness people, Top 100 list is voted by the players. The players have no respect for Matt Ryan, or don’t see Matt Ryan leading them to the Super Bowl. This is Matt Ryan year, he has everything he need, a line, WR, TE, and running back. The regular season means nothing when you have 8-8 teams winning the Super Bowl and 12-4 teams out with 2 weeks rest. Matt Ryan has no excuse not to win in Playoffs and if Cam Newton does better than Matt Ryan this year, we need to look at another quarterback or coach in 2013.

“Matt Ryan took us to the playoffs last year!”

Okay, now how many points did he help your team score in that game? Zero. The only reason why you got any points in that game is because Eli Manning had a brain fart in his own end zone.

Seriously. The Giants scored 26 unanswered points in that game. With that type of embarrassing show, you’re wondering why Ryan got “snubbed?”

Arguments like the one put forward by 2 > 7 are the reason why he isn’t on the list. Half the people in Atlanta are just happy that Ryan doesn’t suck. Newsflash: That isn’t the same as being good. No one else cares that your team couldn’t string together back to back winning seasons for fifty years.

Thanks D. Led. I’ve been trying to get some insight into his personality a bit. Glad to know his mindframe isnt as frail as I beleived. I totally agree with you…I’d look like a deer in the headlights to if my O-Line (PARTICULARLY MY SHORT ARMED LEFT TACKLE) lets everyone get by him. I’d have little confidence in them myself. REALLY hope that changes this year b/c a lot of what we’re gonna do will be contigent on how this rag tag line of ours improves. I like Blalock, still like Mud Duck, and I dont like Clabo as much I did Dahl but that lamenting ship has long passed.lol I’d love to see this:

He was “snubbed” because, though folks loved to quote Ryan’s regular season stats, he hasn’t led his team to victory when it counts most…the playoffs. It would be different if he played even decently in the playoff games we lost, but he was pretty much awful in all of them. I’m sure this is why he’s not on the list & I can’t argue with that. We could talk all day about his stats or QB ability versus Tebow’s, but the bottom line is this: Can you lead your team to playoff wins? In that category, Tebow’s batting .500 & Ryan’s batting .000.

And for those of you blaming the o-line: Yes, the o-line was horrific last season. However, I challenge you to look at some of the throws Ryan made in the game against the Giants on plays in which the protection was solid. Then I want to go back & look at his play in the ‘08 & ‘10 playoff games, when our o-line was actually pretty good. Four words: He was still horrible. I wish you guys would stop with the regular season stat quoting. If I had to choose between a guy that puts up great regular season stats but consistently stinks it up in the playoffs & a guy that puts up just decent regular season stats but leads us to playoff wins…I’ll take the latter.

This is a popularity contest, so one’s inclusion or lack thereof shouldn’t be a place to hang your hat. If you say about Matt Ryan that “he needs to win a playoff game”, then that’s a cop-out. If you say it’s arm strength, that’s another poor excuse since he threw for over 4,000 yards last season. It’s not like he completed 500 8-yard passes. How many playoff games did Cam Newton, Matthew Stafford, Phillip Rivers or Peyton Manning win last season? The same amount as Ice. Matter of fact, only one of those names (Stafford) even played in a playoff game in 2011-12. If I’m Ryan, I take this with a grain of salt and keep working hard.

I would much rather everyone downgrade the Falcons before the season than say how great they are. Matt Ryan and the Falcons will win a Superbowl. This list is taken to the point of obsurdity by the fact that Tebow, John Kuhn, and Willis McGahee made it. Also, Ray Lewis #20? Theres no way he should be ranked this high. This is a popularity contest.

Matt has had every advantage that 99% of young QB’s never have that’s why his stats have been so good. Almost all the offense around him has been a first or second round pick or a good free agent . That’ pampering is unheard of in any league.,not even Peyton had that early advantage . Arthur blank, the nfl and the media are masking this kids issues until theirs a new stadium deal . They will help throw anyone under the bus until that is completed . They want a new stadium desperately and it can’t get done with uncertain locker room issues . Don’t be fooled fans it’s just that simple ! Soon after that deal is done ,Matt will be cut and will be some other teams quality back up QB. Because that’s all he really is without the great talent around him , but he is a nice guy…….

Matt has some good and bad skills. Arm strength and (sometimes) accuracy are not his best but his intelligence is good. He hasn’t shown any athletic skills but that’s because of MM methods of coddling him. If Koetter uses him correctly we will see if he has what it takes.
