Falcons wide receiver Roddy White did not do a flip over his current Top 100 ranking.
BIRDLAND — Falcons wide receiver Roddy White dropped 41 spots on “NFL Network’s The Top 100: Players of 2012” show on Wednesday.
After leading the league with 115 catches after the 2010 season, he was ranked 24th. He caught 100 passes for 1,296 yards and eight touchdowns last season, but also led the league in drops with 15.
White, the controversial Twitter master and Pro Bowl receiver, was fine with being on the list, but believes he was ranked too low.

Steelers safety Troy Polamalu (front) intercepts a pass intended for Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White in the fourth quarter. Associated Press
“I don’t have an argument; I’m just happy to be on this list,” White said. “But not where I’m at. I’m not happy with where I’m at on the list; I’m happy to be on the list.”
White cited his dropped passes, most of which came early in the season, for his plummet in the rankings.
“Probably the dropped passes; I led the league in drops, which is unacceptable,” White said. “I have to go out there and I have to play better, I have to hold onto the ball. But other than that, I feel like I performed well, I felt like I did pretty well this season.
“I felt that I should have been at least in the top five [wide receivers]; right now I’m fighting to be in the top 10. I’m kind of confused right now.”
White believes that adding Julio Jones last season has helped him tremendously. Jones finished with 54 catches for 959 yards and eight touchdowns while basically playing in 11 games. He missed two games and major parts of three others with hamstring injuries.

Roddy White reacts to making a first down catch after returning to the game. Curtis Compton / ccompton@ajc.com
“He’s done wonders for me,” White said. “I get a lot more one-on-one coverages and things like that. And I’m mad that Julio isn’t on the list! Unless he’s ahead of me, but I’m saying that would be ridiculous [laughing]. I’m not saying that in that form or fashion because he’s going to be a great player for years to come and he’s very explosive.”
The Falcons were 13-3 in 2011 and finished 10-6 last season. The team’s three-game slide may have hurt White’s ranking.
“The schedule was a little bit harder,” White said. “Anytime you win 13 games you play all of the big dogs the following year. That was tough on us but like you said, we have to go out there and win 13, 14 [games], try to go undefeated. Maybe I’ll move up the list a little bit.”
Falcons running back Michael Turner was ranked 88 in an earlier show. White doesn’t believe the show is giving the Falcons the proper amount of respect.
“And he was third in the league in rushing,” White said. “How do you be [No. 88] on the countdown and you’re third in the league in rushing?”
White was also asked about quarterback Matt Ryan and if he was a top eight quarterback.
“He’s got to be one of the top eight quarterbacks,” White said. “In this league, in the league that we play in right now, he’s got to be at least in the top eight.”

If both he and Julio are on this list next year, then Matt Ryan may have at least his first playoff win this season … perhaps a Super Bowl appearance …

It takes more than players, tp.
Having an offense a little more updated than the “3yds and a cloud of dust” offense would be a good start. That offense will never win in the playoffs.
We will find out if that philosophy was Mularkey’s or Smith’s soon enough.

Roddy will be okay. He and Julio will be the talk of the NFL this year. That is, if Matt can connect with them. It is Matt’s accuaracy on long balls that I am concerned more about than whether Roddy or Julio will drop them.

8:30 You ever think maybe on long pass plays it’s: timing, which means OL does their job, receiver runs the route on course ie TIMING, finely the receiver hopefully makes some sort of eye contact at precise moments??? === all adds up to QB & WR are in the same zone together. Granted accuracy plays a part in the completion of the play. However it’s a chain reaction that all starts with O-line right out of the shoot!

Dled, can’t really argue with the NFL network on White…if they are looking at the total impact a players has on the game…they got it right…he had some critical drops last season…he kind of started running his mouth too much.
White needs to stay TF off twitter and concentrate on not just being in the top 5 of WRs, but strive to be the number one WR in the league…that all to keep him busy.lol

No – Nope – Nodda, Never Happen – firstly RW would not even entertain a opportunity to be with the Ain’ts – plus no reason to even keep-up with Ain’ts this season they certainly signed-off their fate – as it’s said and done they will only be half the team they were last season & my opinion they might win 6 games this upcoming season. If Peyton Manning ranks anywhere in the Top 100, the list is bogus. This crap is based off the team’s performance, if anything. Don’t believe me. Watch all of the Top 30 players be from playoff teams. The NFL Network needs programming to fill the gap between the draft and training camp. They get on my nerves with some of this crap.

@Statick I guess we should let all our guys continue to be faceless, dull guys huh? Every team needs a guy with a lil charisma every once in a while.
Its not like our guy is Freddie Mitchell.lol He can back up a lot of what he says on the field. Sure he had some missed drops. Who cares? Ask Wes Welker. He’s a perennial 100 catch guy. I’m sure he has dropped his share.LOL I’m actualyl glad we have a guy who stands out. We’re good on the field but honestly pretty bland off of it.

Charisma? Until they start showing up in playoff games and actually win one instead of lying down and losing, then I could care less how more or less charismatic our guys are. So until Roddy the Twitter King learns how to show up in big games, get open and catch balls that hit him in his hands, my opinion of him stays the same. STFU and play.

Who cares about the Aints? If you do not respond to these idiot Aint fans, they will feel the same as I feel about their team: IGNORED. Roddy is a good receiver. My only problem with him is he drops touchdown catches and that results in six points off the board. Nobody talked or carried as much flare as Prime Time. However, Prime Time also “Walked the Walk.” So, Roddy if you are going to “Talk the Talk” then you should “Walk the Walk.” People keep saying, Matt Ryan is 0-3 in the playoffs. Did Matt go out there and play by himself? Teams win together and lose together. So Roddy, please concern yourself with the team’s achievements and not just your own. Make it a priority to catch every potential touchdown pass thrown your way. Do that and I will be the first one interested in anything you have to say. BTW, isn’t the Top 100 voted on by the players and not NFL Network?

@JR1967-Curious as to the logic you applied to come up with that? 43-21 means you are on track to achieving the bigger picture. That is, building a powerhouse who are perennial winners year in and year out. Then, you have the opportunity to compete for the title every year. Each year, you add pieces to increase your odds of winning it all or stay at the top if you are already there. I think that is the way the game is approached. You do not discredit your accomplishments because of your failures.

Yes Roddy it was the drops. If Matt’s going to go out of his way to throw you the football, the least you can do is to catch it for him. Every time you’re rude enough to drop one of his passes, his completion percentage goes down, the chains don’t get moved, and he has to sit on the bench. This makes Matt sad. You don’t want to make Matt sad do you? Please catch the football Roddy. this makes everybody happy. When every bodies happy, even your lame twitters look funny.

I have no idea where Roddy ranks but I’m still a big fan. I like his personality and I think he’s fun to watch. I do wish he would not press send sometimes, but he plays hard and seems to have a lot of fun. I like that.
I wish the NFL and CFB would get rid of celebration penalties too though. It’s supposed to be fun. If some guys hand the ball off to the ref fine. A little USFL every now and then is fine.

The Falcons are 0-3 in playoffs but they were in the playoffs and they is always the chance and opportunity for them to win in the playoffs so don’t throw the chickens outta the barn just because of the past three playoff performances, aint lovers ! And to say the Aints are a contender after all the crap that has leaked out this Spring on their style of play which is Cheating to Win , you aint lovers have got a brain stem blockage problem that needs to be severed !

Trade him for the love! Can you imagine what his stats would be if he actually had any consistency CATCHING the ball?

I thought Roddy White was dropping the ball on purpose last year. He just seem kinda shady on some of his plays

The Big Picture on Roddy White:
–Very good receiver. More than a chain-mover, but not a game-breaker. Good speed, great routes, plays physical, goes over the middle. A Hines Ward with more stretch speed.
–Production wise, Top 5 receiver. Impact wise, Top 10-15 receiver. 70% of catches for first downs. Does not threaten secondaries on speed/athleticism. More with guile and timing.
–Had an off-season with drops, but will return to form. Will also begin to lose some speed (age 30).
–Next two years: Julio Jones will become the #1 option, and Roddy will become a very good possession guy. Still has the ability to burn mistakes deep, but will not turn the 5 yarder into 50. Can consistently make the 20 yard catch, if the routes can develop through protection.

Aints lost to the Bears, Seahawks, and 49ers in three of their four playoff runs over the last few years. Yeah, they are really putting fear in the hearts of the NFL. I can see why their dillusional fans think they are SB material. Question, How many of you Falcons fans troll the Aints blog? I think I know the answer. Because they are nobody to be concerned about.

Is there a Saint blog? I figure the Saint fan was here because he had no place else to go. I don;t think even the Saint fan think his team will a game this year. They is just too much distraction in that organization to make them relevant. If the only game they win is against the Falcon, they will still be irrelevant.

Roddy White is right were he belongs…a top WR makes an impact on the game in critical moments..Roddy White doesnt..granted Matt Ryan cant throw the ball 20 yards down the field you still as a top WR “allegedly” have to make a play when you do get the ball…And as far as Michael Turner..just like Roddy White padding the stat sheet…anybody that saw the falcons last year saw that they should’ve went out and got a young back..Michael Turner’s best days are behind him…#falconssuperbowlbound..

Roddy was spectacular in 2010 he was by far the best Falcon and it must have gone to his head or something went wrong because he couldn’t get separation in single coverage last year. Hopefully his ego will get focused this year. Julio was better in every way when given the oppurtunity, maybe that’s Roddy’s problem.
