Falcons tackle Lamar Holmes, the team’s third-round draft pick, will not participate in the team’s rookie minicamp because of a left foot injury.

“Lamar has got a minor issue with his foot,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said after practice on Friday. ”It’s more precautionary right now. We’ll try to get him back out there. It won’t be here in this minicamp. It will be closer to when we start our OTAs at the end of the month. It’s something that became evident in his post-draft physical.”

Here’s a Q&A with Holmes on the night that he was drafted.

Could end up being “classified” like Peria Jerry… I never understood why they could never be real specific as to what happened to Peria.
I mean what is the foot injury and is it serious?

What You think D Led…..Just guessing here but He is a big guy, Could be a stress fracture, I played the position and it happened to me. I dont know because I dont work for the Physical Trainers in Flowery Branch but if it is, its not serious at all.

So it was found in the post-draft physical. Why did the Falcons not find it pre-draft? Finding injuries post-draft can not be a good thing for those responsible for player physicals. Wow!!! Now he will start out behind the rest of the rookies. I would fire someone for this. If you can’t find injuries pre-draft I don’t need you as my doc.

Mark Ingram underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday and will be sidelined for the next six weeks.
It’s Ingram’s third known surgery since August of 2010 and second on the knee, which was also “scoped” just prior to his final college season. It’s a growing concern for a player multiple teams reportedly removed from their boards leading up to the 2011 draft due to knee worries. Ingram’s other surgery was an operation to repair a turf-toe injury in January. Ingram will enter the 2012 season with medical red flags in addition to preexisting workload concerns.

Uh-huh, except as you say, Ingram’s prior injuries were known, this one caught the falcan’ts by surprise, or should I say, blindsided.

“And preexisting workload concerns”? You do know the Saints feature a 4 RB corp? The only workload concern that he has would be not getting enough touches.

This was an injury that happened during a last minute workout that the Panthers had requested 4 days prior to the draft. During a few visits made by the Falcons prior to the draft and during the East West Shrine Game, no sign of any injury. He’ll be ready!

[...] Falcons’ third round pick – tackle Lamar Holmes – has what has been dubbed a minor left foot injury. As a result, Holmes will be unable to take part in the team’s rookie [...]

After the Aint’s bounty scandal it doesn’t surprise me at all that coach Smith is tight lipped about injuries. We now know for sure that they were targeting players’ specific injuries! I don’t mind the secrecy so much in light of what we know now.

Wow we 1st draft a player slotted for the 5th round wasteing a 3rd rd pick and then miss in the pre-draft physical that he has a foot injury. In Dimitroff I do not trust in drafting.
