Roddy White gets in another Twitter squabble

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White gets into another Twitter dust-up. He doesn't care if he can't walk when he's 50. (Curtis Compton / ccompton@ajc.com

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White got into what is becoming a weekly Twitter fight.

There was the scrap with fans during the labor situation, the fans from New Orleans after he ripped their city, his freestyle tweets on commissioner Roger Goodell and let’s not forget about him expressing remorse for his anti-gay tweets.

This time, White appears to be fighting with himself over the worthiness of former players’ right to bash the game.

“It’s crazy how football players are killing our game you signed up to play a violent game and made a lot of money now u talk bad about #how”

White later added: “Yes older players didn’t make what we made but I remember when gas was 89 cents so the cost of living was different. I don’t have nothing against old players they made football what it is today and I love those guys and I don’t have a problem with them suing the nfl I don’t have to worry about it the nfl has enough money to pay them.”

I’m not sure what White really means. I think he respects the players who built the game, but then counters with a notion that the lawsuits are killing the game.  I certainly concur with this, gas prices are too damn high!!!

What’s your interpretation?

He is right about New Orleans (I lived there for work, wow, what a dump.) and about gas prices. That’s about it.

Well it is a violent sport and all these players knew that before they signed that contract. Why arent these players sueing their college, their high school, and pop warner football for all those hits to the head? Dont get me wrong, concussions are a serious issue but I dont think sueing will solve the problem… unless they take the money they will win and give it to research concussions!

Well, how old is White? Gas went up over a dollar back in 1989 when Iraq marched into Kuwait and never returned below it again. That was what, 23 years ago? Was he pricing gasoline as a toddler? So, I doubt that he remembers what the price of a gallon of gas was….which makes him a liar. But, then again, there’s a lot of lying going on around the NFL these days.

How does that make him a liar? Ever think that his parents told him about gas prices? It doesnt take a genius to look back into history…

I remember during something called “gas wars” the price of gasoline could drop into the 20s, that’s cents per gallon. And yes, what is the NFL supposed to do? They invest in helmet technology and penalize head shots. What exactly are the players claiming, anyway?

Okay, being told about 89cent gas is one thing, saying you remember when gas was 89c is another. But, bottom line, he is right about the retired player lawsuits.

My family and I had this discussion over the weekend about former players suing the NFL dealing with concussion. We all came to to the conclusion that it is frivolous lawsuit. Well in my opinion I feel if you do not included Little League, School Systems, and NCAA then this lawsuit has no value.

So I feel Roddy is right

Players have been told from a young age the dangers of football. It’s a violent game. Roddy is right but he will be the first to yell after he goes thru his money and can not walk.

Blahh, this is the first time I have posted on AJC since the beginning of April. There are some imposters using my name on this blog. But, even still, I doubt you remember gas under a dollar, and what White said was that he remembers it at .89cents, 99 cents is about 11 percent higher. Anyway, it doesn’t matter, the point is that White is right about the retired player lawsuits. They are unfounded and a nuisance and should be summarily dismissed. See you guys later. I’m out.

Seen ThisB4,

I understand you trolling the Falcons blog. You are probably tired of reading about that dumpster fire of a team, “The Aints”! Anyway, it is probably time for you to get your paper bag ready for next season. Tell Vilma and your coaching staff hi for us. Stay classy!

Roddy makes a good point. If the former players lawsuit’s main intent is to make the game safer for future players, then their suit should include NCAA at minimum. By the way, Roddy is 30+, I don’t doubt that he remembers gas under a dollar.

I remember “gas wars” also . . . I worked part-time at a service station . . . a real “service” station that checked your oil, water. tires, cleaned your windows and pumped the gas all with a smile and THANK YOU, COME BACK SOON . . . gas got down to 20 cents a gallon and you could feed a family of 4 for $15.00 week in groceries. Think what it cost now and you have to do all the work yourself…..should I be able to go back and sue my employer? Don’t think so . . . .

So, does he understand that those players do not live in a time vacuum away from the raising gas prices etc.? Those players made less and they still exist and have to pay the price for gas that you do.

Does he realize that his twitter does nothing, but emphasize his complete ignorance? Good thing we have Julio to take his place soon. I used to like Roddy, but he has shown his true colors in the past year and he is not in touch with reality anymore.

Why are people debating who remembers gas prices. Bottom line Roddy White is right(intentional rhyme) the players knew what they were getting into. Oh and I can remember when gas was that cheap and I’m 25. Roddy is older so why wouldt he be able to remember?

I know this isn’t Falcons news, but it’s DOL news. Sekou Smith calls out DOL for doing something that will help the Hawks get their butts handed to the tonight. I know you cover the NFL and not the NBA (further reason you shouldn’t have tweeted this when you did), but the Hawks are fragile enough without your assistance. http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2012/05/10/hawks-owner-calls-garnett-the-dirtiest-player-in-the-league/

A Fool and his Twitter

Just give Roddy enough rope and he will hang himself. Even though he does make some sense sometimes. I was surprised he had the balls to call out Roger “Bull Connors” Goodell about his high pay. Hey J, anticipating the Saints demise is premature. The Saints will continue to dominate the Falcons. I like our chances as long as you guys have M.Smith as your head coach. The Saints coaching staff cant be any worst.
