California wide receiver Michael Calvin, an undrafted rookie free agent, signed with the Falcons today.
The Falcons have now signed 23 free agents from the draft-eligible class.
Calvin, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, fits the Falcons desire to take players with “speed and urgency.”
He ran a 4.32 in the 40-yard dash at Cal’s 2012 Pro Day, which would have been the fastest time at the NFL scouting combine. He had a broad jump of 11 feet, 1 inch and a vertical of 40.5 inches, which would have tied for the best and tied for the fourth-best marks at the combine, respectively.
(I’m thinking there’s a pretty hot 4 X 100 relay team in the wide receiver meeting room. Here it is: Calvin (4.32), Cody Pearcy (4.3 to .35), Julio Jones (4.39) and Harry Douglas (4.42). The Olympics are this summer, you know. Rule number one for the relay team: CLEAN EXCHANGES AND DON’T DROP THE BATON!!!)
Calvin played in 37 games for the Golden Bears and made 10 starts. He had 42 catches for 528 yards and one touchdown over his career.

TD did address the pass rush by signing that CB from eagles. U know the Samuel guy?? Lol if we can cover better then we have more time to get the QB. Obviously there were no. Impact D lineman available. Great job TD playing the card u were dealt

Sounds like a find…why wasn’t he drafted?
Our receivers need to be fast if the offensive line plays as poorly as it did last year.

To all you fans still doubting the FO…..Folks, Its called doing your “due diligence”. Anyone with 4.3 speed deserves a look under “your” scheme/system. Not like they’re giving him millions of dollars! Good Grief!!!!

someone to be excited about is jerrel harris out of BAMA…he’s a quiet leader who knows how to motivate teammates as well as perform on the field…he’s not a big name like Dont’a or Courtney, but he did his job and did it well in Tuscaloosa…

thomas dimitroff does a great job discovering talent. maybe with the falcons calvin will blosoom. he could be a return man since weems is gone. give all the free agents a chance.

Saw Cal play many times over the past few seasons, and I honestly can’t remember this guy at all……know he wasn’t a starter.
Cal has had big problems at the QB position, however, so maybe he’ll be the proverbial “diamond in the rough”……can’t teach speed…

Calvin was not drafted because he had trouble staying healthy–that’s why his production was down. He was supposed to be a starter his freshmen year (and be a stud too).
If he can stay healthy (BIG IF), he could be a beast.

There is an opening on the roster for a Kick Return and Punt Return Man. Should be an interesting training camp to see who gets the job.
