We are in the media War Room and ready for your questions before the second day of the NFL draft starts.
FLOWERY BRANCH – Took a little time to assess the first round late last night, got a few winks, delivered a couple of lectures on the media and the justice system and then started to ponder this WWTDD question.
Given what happened in the most bizarre first round in quite a while, we have to figure out “What Will Thomas Dimitroff Do” with the 55th and 84th picks of the draft.
The first round broke beautifully for the Falcons, who have heavily scouted offensive tackles. The Falcons can practically sit back at 55 and watch as lineman slips through. Georgia’s Cordy Glenn, Stanford’s Jonathan Martin and Mississippi State’s Bobby Massie, Ohio State’s Mike Adams and Wisconsin’s Peter Konz were not selected in the first round. All were projected as potential first round picks.
The Falcons may target Adams or Martin if they are slipping and go up and get one of them. Dimitroff has made at least

Let's go eat a (blank, blank) snack!!! The media war room has some healthy snack options.
one trade in each of his past four drafts.
If the Falcons lay back at 55, California tackle Mitchell Schwartz and Midwestern State tackle/guard Amini Silatolu could still be around.
During the pre-draft process the Falcons worked out offensive tackles Schwartz, Steven Baker (East Carolina), Dennis Kelly (Purdue), Kelechi Osemele (Iowa State) and Donald Stephenson (Oklahoma).
We have a few hours until things get started. So send along your questions.

Mike Jay — They looked at some veteran free agent safeties. They’ll likely go that route near training camp.

DOL,
Outside of trading draft picks, do you think there is going to be some vetern trades as well, I know that Osi from Giants is up for trade for a 2nd or 3rd round pick, anybody else you know who is on that block?

It’s great to talk about moving up. The question is what does TD have to give up to move up?

Rick — You are correct. If they move up the 5th rounder is likely involved and that would mean missing out on the tight end Adrian Robinson.

D Led maybe a little height want hurt. We’re not getting pressure on the quarterback now with our shorter lineman. Like I say don’t know much about him other than he has a big motor which is what we need. If the NFL network guys and Kiper are high on him then he must have abilities to play for someone. I just got this feeling about him similar to the feeling I had years ago when we passed on Clay Matthews to take Jerry. Sure wished we had Matthews now. Just knew that was going to be a mistake. Don’t want another.

Mike — They don’t have enough money for Osi, who wants a long-term deal. Also, Dwight Freeney is reportedly on the trading block. He has a big cap number, too. They are likely done with high-priced vets.

A steady WR that will go across the middle. He is a team player as well. also with a Screen game the most important ting is to CATCH the ball. I know he ran a 4.68 at the combine and he is 6′0 tall but he makes plays and moves the chains. IMO Matt Ryan would love to throw him the ball 30 times a year to him.

Uncle Rico is here to remind TD & MS [of course they read this blog] that any improvement project starts with a solid foundation e.g., offensive / defensive linemen. In their zeal to rebuild the Falcons, they forgot this axiom!

Also, is there an approximate time at which we can expect the Falcons to pick? Is the time between the picks the same as it was during the first round?

DOL……do the Falcons believe that Hawley is a NFL center to replace McClure?
To Defense wins Championships………no, defense does not win Championships in the NFL. Great offense wins the big game. Good defense get you there. Without a great offense, no Super Bowl chances! The game as evolved. Don’t repeat what Woody Hayes said 40 yrs ago! It is not true anymore!

I think the 40 time is over rated. Look at Aquan Bolden, Jerry Rice, Derek Mason, Marcus Colston, and T. J. Houshmandzadeh. All guys that didnt run a 4.40 40 but they could all catch the football and have great lateral movement

DOL whats funny is on most mock Drafts he goes undrafted……..you know that is rediculous.
I think we should at least throw a 6th or 7th on him or go hard after him if he does go undrafted we should call him 1st for an undrafted Free Agent invite to camp. BUT IMO he will be a starter for whoever takes him in 3 years and make plays.

Game speed and 40 speed are 2 different things. And when Jordan White has the ball he has plenty of Game Speed. Also Michael Jenkens has 4.40 and was 6′4 but could he CATCH the ball. not really Sure hands is the most important thing on a WR because a incomplete pass is the same no matter what
