UPDATE
The Falcons agreed to contract terms with backup quarterback Chris Redman and wide receiver Harry Douglas late Tuesday night.
Redman, 6-3, 225 pounds, who agreed to a one-year deal, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round (75th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Falcons on March 23, 2007 and re-signed in 2008. Redman has served as Matt Ryan’s backup for the last four seasons. In 2011, he appeared in five games completing 18 of 28 pass attempts for 188 yards.
In nine NFL seasons, Redman has appeared in 31 games and completed 286 of 500 pass attempts for 3,179 yards with 21 touchdowns.
Douglas, of Jonesboro agreed to a four-year deal, has been the team’s No. 3 receiver. He’s caught 85 passes for 1,112 yards over four seasons. He missed the 2009 season because of a knee injury.
EARLIER POST — Vance Walker gets $1.26 million tender
Falcons defensive tackle Vance Walker received a tender offer of $1.26 million on Tuesday.
Walker, 6-foot-2, 304 pounds, was a seventh round pick (210th overall) out of Georgia Tech in 2009.
He played in all 16 games last season and registered 25 tackles, including 17 solos. He also had two sacks and one forced fumble.
Over his career, he’s had 77 tackles and 55 solos with the Falcons.

chucktown38 – tall cb is an oxy moron. I keep saying, it doesn’t work that way. A reciever can catch and run a route and knows where he is going. He can have speed and height. A cb has to cover these fast guys that know where they are going but have to have exceptional athleticism to stay even close to the WR. This is not found in tall guys. I can’t explain it any better than that. CB’s are 5′9″ to 6′1′ and will be for along time.

Yes!!! I’m glad to see Harry Douglas get resigned to the falcons. He has been a great receiver for us and it’s great to see a hometown kid stay with the local team!!!! As a long time season ticket holder, I’m excited about getting Harry resigned. Now, Td please sign Carl Nicks!!! or Mario Williams.

With recent history in mind, why would anyone speak with certainty about what this or that free agent is going to mean to a team’s prospects? Does no one recall that people were ready to go ahead and hand the Lombardi Trophy to the Eagles after the last free agency period? How did that turn out?
I make no predictions here. The Falcons’ free agency decisions may turn out to be disastrous. We don’t know. Nobody does.

Just a casual look will tell you that the Washington Redskins and, unfortunately for the Falcons, the Tampa Bay Bucs have already improved their rosters immensely just in the first few hours of free agency! Huge, immense talent acquisitions by both! Falcons do nothing of note. Tampa may soon be eyeing another Super Bowl victory unless Washington beats them in the NFC championship game. It’s my belief the Falcons will not make the play-offs at all this year — beginning their downward spiral into mediocrity. Dang sad. Fans were lied to. Not acceptable.

Cutting Peria Jerry will cost the Falcons about more than just keeping him. He make 1.95 million next year if they cut him it will cost them 2.2 million. Cutting Sam Baker would save the Falcons 2.6million , which should be done. Cutting Ovie M. would save the Falcons 3 million, which should be done. Cutting Jonathan Babineaux would save 3.6 million. He make 4.6 million next year. If the falcons cut Babineaux, Ovie, and Baker they would gain 9.2 million in cap relief.

We seem to try for 2nd best. I’ve been an AB fan for awhile. He has brought respectability to the Falcons but it seems like we don’t get close to what the Aint’s do. Comments say get Spag, if not Nolan next. They get Spag, we get Nolan. Probably OK. They get Brees, we get Matt. We could have had Jimmy Graham, they got him. They’ve got 2 probowl guards, we have a weak OL after letting Dahl get away for 4 mill a year and sign Blalock for 6 mill/yr.. We could have tried for Sproles, they got him so we use draft choich for Quizz and not use him. They have a offensive mastermind head coach, we got a conservative defensive minded HC with a OC & DC that he controls. Now that the OC & DC are gone, we have a new questionable OC.
All these things aside, we may still make some good deals but not seeing some of the names I want to see in the headlines for the Falcons. If, as we see, MM & BVG weren’t going to be here next year anyway, why do we keep the guys that were in charge with them. MS & TD, good guys to get you to respectability but that’s as far as it goes. I’m disapointed in AB for this.

I think I’ve seen it all you bloggers (or Kool-aid drinkers) must think that FA is over at midnight…get a grip you’re not getting Mario Williams and besides all you know are the big names…. 2010 the 49ers team had a bad record under Mic Singletary… they changed coaches and made the play-offs with the very SAME players last year….I said it earlier the Falcons will get DE Mark Anderson New England…for those of you who don’t know the name look up his stats… that will be your homework assignment….

Seeing the fans in the blogs complain about the Falcons brass sitting out of free agency other than the resignings is reminding me a lot of little kids asking their parents for new toys because they see other kids getting them and the parents responding “you dont need new toys, you need new to find new ways to play with the toys that you already have, we spent good money on them.“
That being said, Pat Hill and Mike Nolan had better be able to work some Disney/Pixar type magic with the “toys“ Arthur/TD have on this OLine/DLine right now

I fell we will cut a few players & sign a DE, Although, rumor has it that Abe’s tweeting & he is engaged in talks with the Falcons. I would rather they cut Baker & Ovie & sign Mario or Wimberly.

The Bucs are going to pass the Falcons by this season. With Vincent Jackson already inked, the Bucs just added one of the best guards in the league, Carl Nicks, so yet another potential cog along the offensive line went by without so much as a conversation. Still questioning the whole Grimes thing and putting $10 million into a DB who is too short to cover the elite receivers.
Losing enthusiasm at an alarming rate. Ready to see some activity other than signing guys who are injury prone, but come at a price similar to those shopping at the Dollar Store in an effort to build a team on the cheap. Bad decisions continue to plague the offseason and the future is looking bleaker by the day. I cannot wait to see who is going to tackle and rush the passer…..it ain’t gonna be pretty….I can tell you that.

I agree Grimes is not worth 10 mil, & Redman is dirt. However, I love the moves they have currently made. If we can sign Wimberly the ex Raider DEF End, I think we will sweep the Bucs, Aints, & The Carolina Kittens.

Tampa bay will whip our a$$. Probably Carolina too. The Aints have been doing it for awhile. If we do advance in the FA market, we will be getting the 2nd best. I know MS & TD have gotten us as far as they are capable. I believe AB told MM & BVG, if someone wants you, you had better take it. The biggest problem is the ones that controlled MM & BVG’s progress (MS & TD). If Home Depot lowers production, you don’t fire the workers. You get rid of management. So far, I am very disapointeed in what has happened and the progress we have made. Something has to happen very quick. Even Mario alone won’t help me change my mind right now. I hope they surprise me but I’m not counting on it.
TD’s problem as a fairly new GM is not with the early rounds even tho PJ is a bust, but in the later rounds our more informed bloggers say most of these guys could have gotton in the next round.
Missed Clay Matthews, got P.Jerry. Missed Jimmy Graham. Too many to talk about. If things don’t improve, you don’t get rid of the help. Sure MS is a nice guy that brought respectability to Atlanta, but seems he has taken us as far as he can go.
I really hope I am wrong!!!
