UPDATE
The Falcons agreed to contract terms with backup quarterback Chris Redman and wide receiver Harry Douglas late Tuesday night.
Redman, 6-3, 225 pounds, who agreed to a one-year deal, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round (75th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Falcons on March 23, 2007 and re-signed in 2008. Redman has served as Matt Ryan’s backup for the last four seasons. In 2011, he appeared in five games completing 18 of 28 pass attempts for 188 yards.
In nine NFL seasons, Redman has appeared in 31 games and completed 286 of 500 pass attempts for 3,179 yards with 21 touchdowns.
Douglas, of Jonesboro agreed to a four-year deal, has been the team’s No. 3 receiver. He’s caught 85 passes for 1,112 yards over four seasons. He missed the 2009 season because of a knee injury.
EARLIER POST — Vance Walker gets $1.26 million tender
Falcons defensive tackle Vance Walker received a tender offer of $1.26 million on Tuesday.
Walker, 6-foot-2, 304 pounds, was a seventh round pick (210th overall) out of Georgia Tech in 2009.
He played in all 16 games last season and registered 25 tackles, including 17 solos. He also had two sacks and one forced fumble.
Over his career, he’s had 77 tackles and 55 solos with the Falcons.

If Blank says 1st round playoff loses are good enough, he will be in for a rude awakening if Dtroff sits out the best free agent class in recent history. You cant rest on your laurels when your laurels are getting embarrassed in 3 playoff games.

thoma and staff are really getting on my nerves. its free agency make moves. And dont stock up on below averga dt’s across the board. save room and money for a possible game changer. Trade turner and get tolbert, why resign decoud when landry is a monster. very frustrating to be a falcon fan.

grubbs would be good in my opinion and let the guard position be an open competition. Michael tolbert is a faster younger turner. Lets get him and get value for turner. Thomas Demitrof is overrated.

I don’t question the fact that Mario Williams is going elsewhere. My question is how can this team believe fans will think they are serious about winning and trying get better (per Blank’s mandate) when Curtis Lofton may walk away, but Decoud and Biermann are retained and Baker and Jerry are still on the roster? They’ve spent money. However, I question how it’s been spent. The fact we’re 7 million under the cap with a roster with this many holes is sheer mismanagement. I don’t want to her “free agency just started.” We signed our free agents (or “core” like the Hawks brass would say). We have no first round pick, no money to get a difference maker on the offensive or defensive line. Where are the explosive players? What a joke

Seems to be alot of disappointed Falcons Fans on blog this evening. T.D. is not who I thought he was. No urgentcy in his game. He must not read our AJC/BLOGS. We need better OL/DL HELP NOW! WHEN Atlanta Reverts back to Losers because they stood pat, I’m sure the passionate fanbase on these blogs won’t even bother to care anymore. I can’t believe they care about winning. We need a GM with more heart.

Are the Falcons in the same cap situation with Sam Baker as they would be with that other Dimitroff first round bust P. Jerry?
If that is the case we are stuck with those two busts for another season. Of course we will not see them on the field because they will be in the trainers room more than on the field.
Those two just do not seem to like football.

Why havent we released baker yet? Or traded him with turner for some picks and picked up Michael tolbert the better version of turner. Why resign walker. Thats 5 dt’s. We should be thinning that position so we can replace them with bigger stronger dt’s in this draft or free agency. Im really not liking this.

You need to backup from the koolade bar dude. TD is responsible for the Dire-Straits Atlanta finds themselves in. If you think this is good, then I’ve got some BEACHFRONT Property in Statesboro to sell you. Holes to fill with limited draft-picks, no money, and not much of a plan. Addition by subtraction is a hella way to get to SUPERBOWL! Anybody want some Cherry Koolade?

I see their following the braves plan of improving by doing nothing. Not only are we doing nothing we are losing the players that actually produced and were wasting cap space on perenial backups. If they dont want to make a move or hear their fanbase i think we should give them some empty seats to look at this season

We as fans so far have been sold a bill of goods. Remember the post season press conference. Mr Blank promised us that changes would be made to take us to the championship level. Look at the changes so far we are going to loose our best pass rusher and linebacker and so far we have replaced them with a 2nd tier free agent linebacker coming off injury. So far Mr. Blank I am not impressed. We as fans deserve better.

You guys do know that free agency doesn’t end at 12:00 PM EST on March 13, 2012, right? Ok good, so here’s my next question: why are your freaking out? First free agency? Get used to it – things don’t move as fast as they did during the lock out shortened free agency period last year.
If we are still in this position, say, come Summer Camp, okay, then I’ll sympathize with your gripes. Until then, you all sound like a bunch of band wagoning babies that have no idea what the hecks going on – completely analogous to a chicken with it’s head running around.

The real problem I just have is the cap issue. To be hyped up that we had 20 mil cap space and a serious run at mario to 2 days before FA to be told we only have 5 mil cap space with baker and jerry, BUST, taking up cap space. They’re salaries are holding like 7 mil, put that with grimes 10 mi offer and thats 17 mil cap space. We would have around 22-24 mil cap space to work with for serious run at mario williams. Im still a believer. TD and SMitty got us here but we have to do something.

The Falcons GM is playing it smart. Keep your powder dry. Everbody wants the big name, but I don’t know if Williams can stay healthy or if he fits into Nolan’s scheme. He got a lot of sacks for the Texans, but they made the playoffs with him on IR. Be patient, there will be players out there to be picked up for a bargain.

We were promised improvement. And we all kow the first teams to meet with a free agent usually has the upper hand in signing that player. Our team didnt even talk to anyone. What’s that say. That was not what I expected after following espn, falcoholic, bleacherreport, atlanta website and every blog site out there. Hopefully they’ll be a better tomorrow but Thomas needs to get in there. And we dont need backup players.

Mike Nolan is a better defensive coordinator than Brian VanGorder. He will be running a different scheme, one which is more likely to take advantage of some of the athleticism we have on that side of the ball. VanGorder treated our D like we had nothing but thirty-somethings relying on brains. Our brains weren’t sharp enough, so maybe we need to get after opposing offenses and hit somebody.

Glad to see Douglas back. I guess the Redman signing means we won’t be doing anything at QB. Looks like Tampa is giving the Saints a run for their money to acquire Nicks. I was hoping we were in the mix but don’t see any mention of it. Are we planning on re-signing Ovie to block for Turner, even with Turner on reduced carries? Would Ovie lead block for Quizz, or just get in his way? Appears that we are heading into the FA roundup to make some “little splashes” instead of a big one….

The Falcons problem remain a lack of pressure from interior lineman. Not one of their tackles require double teaming to free up one on one matchups for their DE’s. Ho-hum signing just another body.

Super Mario is apparently (most likely) all about the money. And if that’s true, the Bills will get him with the reported “monster offer” they plan to make.
That’s fine with me. Snatch that stupid tag away from Miko and her wife Brent, and go get Paul Soliai from Miami, then get a DE who costs less.
By the way, loved Lofton, but $9 mil a year? Nah. And though it was reported already, the Bucs haven’t snapped him right up. Some of those media reports saying so, were rather quickly retracted….

Falcons problems remain the same. Journeymen tackles that generate little to no interior pressure. Harder for DE’S to get sacks if middle lineman don’t flush QB out of the pocket. Look for a dominant interior lineman that commands double teams!

So there aren’t any backup QB’s out there more capable than Chris Redman who has to be what 34 or 35 now?? I don’t get that at all.
Hopefully the new OC will figure out how to use Douglass because between injuries and scheme, he was almost always underused.
That said, this is the same freaking squad that has done bupkis in the playoffs in 3 chances? What’s different besides not having ANYONE that scares an OC in the rush other than Weatherspoon?
THis team is the same one that can’t do anything in the playoffs except this one is going to be without 2 of it’s best defensive players.
Once again, I don’t understand what Thomas is trying to do here. Whatever it is that he thinks he’s got in these players… it just isn’t there in January.
