Atlanta Falcons: Biermann set to sign contract extension

Defensive Kroy Biermann has won the respect of Hines Ward.

Defensive end Kroy Biermann is set to sign a contract extension with the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons’ free agency dominoes are set to start falling and Reality Television star and defensive end Kroy Biermann is not going to be tardy for the party.

Biermann’s re-signing is “imminent” and expected within the next 36 hours, according to a person close to the negotiations.

The final sticking point is that Biermann wants a three-year contract. The team would like to lock him up for four years. The deal will land in the $10-12 million range, the source said.

Biermann, a fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft, has been a core special teams player, part-time starter and key player in the defensive end rotation. He’s also has been solid when dropping in coverage, a particular skill that may get more use under new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

Biermann has played in 64 games and made 17 starts. He started 14 of 16 games in 2010, when the Falcons went 13-3 and won the NFC South.

Last season during the lockout, Biermann had a son and married “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kim Zolciak.  A recent episode featured Biermann and his family settling into their new home.

The Falcons, who met with several agents while in Indianapolis last week during the NFL scouting combine, figure to make additional moves this weekend as they have until Monday to use the franchise tag.

If the Falcons do not re-sign their own players, they will become unrestricted free agents at 4 p.m. on March 13, when the league’s new business year starts.

Here’s the list prospective free agents: Abraham, John DE; Chambers, Kirk OL; DeCoud, Thomas S; Douglas, Harry WR; Grimes, Brent CB; Hayden, Kelvin CB; Kelly, Reggie TE; Lofton, Curtis LB; McClure, Todd OL; Peterson, Mike LB; Redman, Chris QB; Romberg, Brett OL; Sanders, James S; Snelling, Jason RB; Weems, Eric WR and Zelenka, Joe LS.

Biermann was a good call.. Now sign Abe to 2 year contract..We need Lofton…Sidberry..they r good players..I d love to get Colston.. If Edwards is 100%.. I’d love to have Grimes but wouldn’t give up the farm to sign him.
The Birds will be ok.next yea. Hopefully Ryan has learned enough in 4 years to score points .
Need some offense..Need speed in the back field..
Need an offensive line that will get ugly again

Guess that makes the apparently only white housewive of Atlanta happy she doesn’t have to move.
Can they at least get rid of the rest of the “housewives”.
And how come half the housewives on all those shows are single? By definition they would have to be married. Never made sense.

[...] Truth: Yes, the spelling is correct: K-R-O-Y. A serviceable pass rusher (12.5 sacks) and special-teamer since Atlanta drafted him in 2008, the “Bier Man” has a knack for big plays, with three career defensive touchdowns. Although most football fans outside of Georgia or Montana (where he attended college) probably don’t know Biermann – unless they watch “Real Housewives” for some reason – they likely will soon, as he’s supposedly due to get paid.
